Do all the XP penalty complainers just body brigade through the game? Honest question

"
Bottom line:

The point at which you quit because you've hit a wall where you can't progress is different for everyone, but only a few very masochistic few will slog onward.

The rest of people will trigger the "fuck it, I quit" mechanic that's unique to GGG games because of their inexplicable clinging to penalizing players for playing the game.

That's the problem.

"masochistic few" is a narrative not a fact. POE2 has much much better numbers than any POE1 league even weeks after the launch, which suggests its not dramatically off base with regard to challenge.

Every game I've ever played of any description that was worth a damn had a time or three or seven hundred, in POE1's case probably several thousand where I said fuck it I quit. And I've been doing this passionately for most of my 54 years.

to be considered a game in the first place you need consequence for playing it badly.

I'd go so far to say that any game I didn't get pissed off at at least SOME was probably a pretty poorly made game. I can promise you that such a game is long forgotten and not in my or (probably) anyone else's "classic games" list.
Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.

You can defeat your own arguments here by looking into player retention numbers for PoE. You can extrapolate them via common sense, after looking at Achievements for PoE 1, as well as reviews, and hours played.

There's some interesting patterns that you'll see after spending just a few minutes on it.

OR even better you could do it and be the hero of the XP penalty wars of '025 the
hero who slew the ancient evil "guy who doesn't want POE2 to turn into D4"

Tell us of your interesting patterns that you have seen senpai

I'm sorry I nearly spit my rum and coke out re-reading that line. That Charlie Day conspiracy board meme popped into my head.

Extrapolate via common sense, achievements, reviews and hours played indeed... Should I hand pick the reviews I agree with when I do this or can you provide the ones you agree with?

When people are ego identified with a mechanic, and triggered. It's almost impossible for someone else to convince them of anything.

This is clearly shown by how you responded to me. You aren't in a good frame of mind to understand an alternative viewpoint, let alone accept one and admit you might be wrong.

This is, something that you will have to do on your own.

I've given you the place to look. It's up to you now.

And no. You don't need to hand pick reviews. I spent two entire evenings reading them for hours. You're good with a sample size of about 100 random reviews :)

1. "POE 2 has much better numbers than any POE1 league" yes, it's a new game. and in case you're new to the forums there are tons of threads stating exactly what I did. People are quitting over these mechanics.

2. How many people have hit 100? 20? 200? Out of the millions of players... What you're missing here is that it's simply not achievable for an average player due to exp penalties. This is a PVE game... as a reminder.

3. "to be considered a game in the first place you need consequences"... says you. It's an ARPG. The consequence is that you died. You have to now get up, figure out WHY you died, adjust your build and go back and redo what you were doing. But, in GGG's world that means you just lost progress as well. So the likelihood that you'll be able to actually FIX whatever is wrong is now stymied by the fact that it's going to take even longer progress...

Uhh... You do realize that D4 is actually a better ARPG right now.... correct?

Objectively speaking.

It has multiple things to do in end game (dozens actually), no exp penalties, no respec cost with the armory update, mounts, skippable campaign, etc. I.E. it's a game that is "fun" to play.

It just sounds to me like you're one of those "don't change the game even though I don't like it as much as I'm lying" kind of people.

Why is that?

What does that even mean?

They really need to add blocking on this forum.

Hmm. Simple terms. It's an ego booster. As in, The ego identifies with it.

Someone might ego identify with it because it lets them have a feeling of superiority, accomplishment, among a few other reasons. But usually because 'XP loss make me gooder player than you'.

And that's why you see so many arguing that everyone that want's it gone is just going to die 4000 times to progress, or they're all bad.
