The Palpable and Uninformed Hate and Dismissal of POE1 Veterans Sounding the Alarm is Worrying

OP, I will agree that veterans (or anyone, for that matter) receiving hate for honest feedback is unacceptable.

But regarding your letter to GGG, aren't you being overly dramatic? It's only been TWO WEEKS and already we've had massive positive changes in response to feedback. Both in balance as well as QoL.

I believe that's as much as could be done in such a short time span, as GGG is winding down for holidays, as they said.

But there's a whole 6-12 months still ahead of us before anyone says "game's done". It's good that streamers have concerns and are voicing them. It's good that there's tons of feedback waiting on the forums. Granted, I'd love to see more responses from GGG, but let's let them cook before sounding an alarm.

Big sweeping changes like revamping the endgame into something great will take months. Even PoE 1 needed the Atlas of Worlds expansion (several years into its life) for the endgame to become "the shit".
Ascend with precision.

But that game was always there. Its called ruthless. What were you waiting for?

The ruthless argument is stupid to begin with. It feels like crap because poe1 is not meant to be played like that. It is balanced around League SC Trade. Everything else is challenge run. Handicapping yourself for the sake of it doesnt do feel good in the long run because game feels off no matter what. You need all the things ruthless removes, in poe2 you dont. PoE2 is created with not having those things to begin with.

what there will be leagues every 3 months on poe2 and challenges and poe2 will be based around sc trade league same system so what are u talking about.

I did give it a chance. poe1 is a brain off game. Zooming around the map and spamming one or two skills. I don't like that in games. I ended up playing it as a second monitor game while I watched podcasts.

The combat was boring. The campaign sucked. The boss battles are good in maps though.

I figured I'd just wait for poe 2 to come out. At the time the combat looked vastly superior and I was right. That's why I don't want poe2 to be turned into it.

poe1 exists for people who like that playstyle. POE2 is different. Stop trying to change the core concept of the game. And I have no problem with dedication when I like games.

And here lies the problems.

MOST gamers that play POE are 30+ years. Most of them actually have lives besides POE. Like me, they have a challenging job, family, wife, and a house to take care of. All things that NEED brain on.
And even though we do enjoy a challenge and difficult content, we don't want it constantly. Maybe we like the game to be 75% brain off while watching a podcast or having a conversation with your missus, and then 25% full focus for endgame bosses and the really beefed up maps.

Do you know what that is called? Balance.
I get you want constant vigilance, because you probably live a life where the only challenge you have is in a video game.

Try getting a house, a hard job, and a family, with a crap ton of responsibilities, and come back and tell me that what you enjoy in your spare time is constant stress and challenge on top of all that.
That is not good for you sanity.
For most people, gaming is about getting some peace of mind, mindfulness, just simple fun.
Tinkering with a theorycrafted build for a few days, than trying to level and equip that build. Awesome stuff.

I think this really nails it for me and my circle of friends, the unemployed/low skill job friends are in love with the game so far.

The ones who I work with in software engineering that have kids and own houses absolutely are not enjoying the game. Feels like going to work after working all day and that is just not what I want out of a game.
R.I.P. my beloved P.o.E.

You linked 30 mins rants of concerns about poe2 and you summurized it by the ONLY ONE LINE that express their hope. This is gold lmfao. It is especially laughable with the mathil video.

I never understood why people listen to these bozo as if they know what they are talking about in the first place. These guys entire job is to shove their opinion down their ass to promote companies that would never have access to advertising without the existence of these cockroaches willing to sell anything.

Most of them have already told you genshin, or raid shadow legend was a good game and advice you to play it.

Just laughable.

I never understood why developers took content creators as "community leaders" and weigh in their voices as much more important, yet that's our reality.

... and yeah, all those videos are annoying AF to watch. Tedious. Slow paced. They are just milking the timer. That being said, it's not my fault that's how they surmised their experience with POE2. They are direct quotes. Had they been the opposite I would have included them as well.

That's exactly what Tofortois alluding:

Surely content creators and streamers aren't just glazing the game because it's their literal job and source of income to play new games and to generate fake hype for it. Surely.

... and It's true. I don't think they can be critical without sugar coating it. In most cases, they dismiss their entire critique of the game by concluding how they concluded.

That's on them though.

I also found it laughable.

I thought mathil was gonna straight up merc the game, but then he said what he said.

Beats me.

Yep ... and I am in that group. The game is ... ok ... I want it to be good but getting on to slog through clearing the zone AGAIN when it takes 90 minutes and not having the ability to craft decent gear ... is reducing my longevity. Yesterday I was on the forum more than the game.

Hahaha now it's unemployed/ low skill jobs that like PoE 2, and successful that like 1. I have 2 kids and high stress transport job, and the harder the game afterwards, the better.

You sound like 40+ aunts defending why they watch Venezuelan shows, "I think enough at work, I don't want to think when watching TV". Go play some phone level casual crap then, and leave serious gaming alone. Game means challenge, for a man at least.

Another problem of people like you, is that you just have to win something so your short spare time is worthwhile. Learn to enjoy the moment to moment, the tension, the gameplay itself, and the time is never wasted. Unless gameplay is crap, and all there is is level up and equip, that would explain a lot.

I play hardcore from the start in every game, rarely finish them, but the experiences are one of the kind, and nothing beats entering a new zone with no experience in it and one chance.

Actually, it's relatively few 'newcomers' to PoE2 who are trolling and spewing hate at the PoE 1 community who are - rightfully - quite leery about the current state of the game.

The most vocal and vitriolic hate spewers are the 'git guud' crowd from PoE 1 who have the woefully mistaken belief that everyone - EVERYONE - should play THEIR game THEIR way and no other. Those are the same ones who sit in the basement, play every minute they're awake, and do have iterative knowledge of the game because they have no other life.

And, unfortunately, those who spew the most hate are the ones GGG listens to.
Off topic but good flair.
One cannot help but wonder how such a lust for loot can affect a persons mind. Although these exiles appear to be our salvation, it would not take much for them to turn on us as easily as they fight gods and demons.

This game as a play once through to endgame and its over is probably ... ok ish ... for the league mechanic it will be a nightmare. I predict if they reset the servers now they would lose half the people on the game and MOST of the trolls.

Time for a reset? :)

Oh I hope they do a new league reset whenever they put in some of the new classes lmao

I would see restart as mandatory.

I do wonder what the passive tree will look like with new classes...guessing that's been discussed by Jonathon at some point already, but there doesn't seem to be any room for anything else so Druid starts where?

Druid starts in the templar section, they all start somewhere with another class. POE 1 class with a poe 2 class.

I'm tired AF of them telling us to STFU or that we just need to "Get good" We're the ones that have been supporting GGG these last several years. In PoE1 they were VERY good at listening to our ideas. Now, they aren't. You want to play Souls Whatever, then do that. If you want this game to be that difficult then they need to add an easier mode for those of us who don't. I HATE Soulslike games, they're not fun, they're just annoying and I don't want to see my favorite company fall into that trap. If they don't start listening to the ones that have been here and the ones that will stay here then the game is destined to fail. there CAN AND SHOULD be a happy medium, but right now Streamers matter more than diehard players, and that REALLY bothers me. If they at least got rid of the entire zone respawning on death I'd be A LOT happier. You wanna run the zone again, make a new instance.

POE1 isn't going anywhere. If you want that game it's still there waiting for you. The rest of us who didn't find poe1 appealing wanted something new, an evolution to arpg's.

Let us enjoy our game and you can enjoy yours.
