The Palpable and Uninformed Hate and Dismissal of POE1 Veterans Sounding the Alarm is Worrying
I’m very new to the game so we’ll get that out of the way. I regret not starting it sooner than just a week or two before this one released. I still managed 16’s in PoE1 and have been on 15’s most of today in 2. I find myself agreeing somewhat with both sides:
I don’t mind the map size, and certainly don’t feel there is a ton of space not being used. Maybe in early tiers, yes, but there have been plenty of times I’ve spawned into 2 rare packs that honestly made me wish for a bit of unused space. With 25-30% boots I don’t feel like the backtracking is that bad but I pretty methodically clear as I had sustain issues for awhile. I’m generally fine with one death per map. I rarely die. I don’t like all the revenge mechanics. It’s become a habit to run away and or dodge anytime I kill anything close by and wait a bit. I don’t understand anybody defending Trials currently. The “vets” hate it, I don’t like it, and my much more casual friends (who are part of the “new” player audience this game aimed to bring in) will probably quit when they get there. You really have to just love that type of gameplay to enjoy it; for me it makes my defenses feel less useful than they should for something that is supposed to be fun and exciting to get. Doing uber lab before this game came out was the last thing I really shot for in 1, I managed albeit overleveled, and can’t say I thoroughly enjoyed it. I like this less. I will concede I don’t know how to wrap my head around this lengthy of a campaign every league. I do agree though-there’s a certain crowd that absolutely equates skill/challenge with tedium. Trials especially feel purposely tedious. I’ll do the rest eventually, but I definitely think it will be the breaking point for my more casual friends, and I don’t blame them. I do think a lot of this will be looked at, some of it possibly changed, but don’t feel like wanting an explanation on game direction (after the holidays though ffs) is unreasonable. Part of EA is giving feedback, even if it is negative. It’s been a breath of fresh air though compared to the 1.5 years of D4 I suffered through. |

" This is bussiness. We were supposed to have full release of PoE2 like year ago. Things change. You can play other games in the meantime or just replay poe1 because you like it so much. It doesnt matter one bit honestly. Point still stand, poe2 is meant to be different from poe1 and aims for different audience. It is not a replacement as i said multiple times already. Willfull ignorance is not an excuse to not knowing that. Last edited by kuciol#0426 on Dec 21, 2024, 1:16:23 AM

I do think that for BOTH PoE1 and PoE2 to survive they need to be significantly different. Most of your issues sound like "I want to switch over to PoE2, but want it to be PoE1 4.0" and that just isn't the game that I and so many others enjoy

PEO 1 "veterans" are one of the most elitist group of players I have seen. Just because you played POE 1 since jesus walked the earth doesn't make your opinion on PEO 2 more valid that someone's new PEO 2 experience. If GGG caved in to these veterans and strayed from their actual vision you'd have "POE 1 but prettier".

" The sentence literally starts with "You're all talking like", which DIRECTLY QUALIFIES the sentence as being globally applicable (you're all talking...), not locally directed (you're talking...). Just to be clear, I am talking to you specifically now when I say "you specifically" should probably learn to read before you make a point of correcting other people's English. |

" That is what these "vets" want. GGG promised PoE1 4.0 back in 2019 and from all the conversation of and with "PoE1 vets" they essentially want to see PoE1 4.0 and not PoE2 |

"Cept they don't, each time GGG ttries to implement changes you get crybabies coming out of the woodworks, same reason why POE2 got split from the original game, which was a good thing as it allowed GGG to be even more creative. There is the caveat that vets are also not a monolith, if going by number of hours I could qualify as vet... and im rather happy with the direction of the game. Is it perfect, no, not by a longshot, but the changes from POE is most of the reason I am enjoing POE2 and I doubt Im ever going back to POE1 |

-*devs do not completely overhaul/remake the entire game in 15 days immediately after EA release right before X-mass*
-"Oh no! They completely dismiss and ignore us! The game is dead! GGG HATES US!" Drama queens and prima donnas... ![]() First provide your feedback, then after 0.5 or 1.0 version rolls out and its still not done, then you can start making those doom posts. And after you take it out of your system move on with your life. Its not the only ARPG that will ever come out, Titan quest 2 is on the way and im sure there will be alot ALOT ALOT more arpg's being made when the market notices just how many millions GGG made from this EA launch alone. |

No its not. They made it clear before release that the majority of PoE 1 vets didn't actually like the game as much as new players. They expected to lose quite a few from PoE 1 and thats a good way to go about it.
PoE was fine, but after 10 years PoE2 is much welcomed by most and is a btter game overall, even in its current state. The game is fine and the only people worrying or freaking out are PoE 1 players who don't like the new game and can't adjust to the difficulty. Losing players is expected and if that many don't want to play PoE anymore it is what it is. Nothing to worry about as the numbers reflect they are doing things the right way and the game is more popular than PoE ever was. Glad they've made the changes and went in this direction and the majority are as well. Hopefully they won't adjust the game to make those people happy, as they are for the most part irrelevant when it comes to the games long term success of the game. |
