The Palpable and Uninformed Hate and Dismissal of POE1 Veterans Sounding the Alarm is Worrying

Theres valid reasons to be mad at the game, mad at delusional players who kiss the games ass and to turn into their dark souls fetish. There also those like the thread maker who are hitting the fire alarm and screaming fire at a candle in the room. If you follow my inane metaphor, the game is early access. Work in progress. Over the holidays. Chill. Are there design decisions to be worried about. Yes. But chill.
One cannot help but wonder how such a lust for loot can affect a persons mind. Although these exiles appear to be our salvation, it would not take much for them to turn on us as easily as they fight gods and demons.

This 100%.

I actually *like* the idea of Ruthless as it brings back memories of the old days of PoE. But PoE1 is not that game anymore, so I don't play Ruthless. The mobs are infinitely more dangerous, the devs abandoned the idea of "you should be able to see what kills you" years ago (remember when they removed detonate dead totems for that very reason? I 'member), and itemization is so much more complex, and modifier weights so abysmally low, that self-crafting is a non-starter for all but the most no-life players.

And PoE2 is Ruthless with the same exact problems that PoE1 has.

Itemization in PoE2 is worse than it ever was in PoE1. And I mean ever, including closed beta. I just got to maps SSF and could not progress at all because of chaos damage mobs in every direction of my atlas. I found a grand total of TWO chaos resist items throughout the entire campaign, and I have spent literally every single one of my transmutes and exalts trying to roll an item with it. 10% chaos resist was not enough to do Tier 1 Maps. Like what the hell is that?

Meanwhile I made sure to cap the rest of my resists, but even that was a miserable slog. And with no bench and no runes reslotting, changing out any piece of gear was an absolute pain, worse than it has ever felt in POE1.

I gave up on my SSF dreams and sold my divines to buy my way into max chaos resist. I fucking hate that that is how I had to do it. And now I likely won't upgrade a single piece of gear until I can change out all of it at once. It's such a massive step backwards from even the worst days of PoE1 itemization and I cannot believe GGG has regressed so far so quickly.

Why are there no resists on the tree? Why are stats so limited? Why are charm slots and movement speed not implicits? Why is chaos resist still so fucking rare?

It makes no sense.

And yeah, the detailed threads from veterans are being drowned out. I wrote a long thread about why the Trial of Chaos is so much worse than Ultimatum, it got zero traction. Likely wasn't even noticed by GGG, let alone read.

We've been here since before the beginning. We know what we're talking about. We have seen the highs and lows of the game and can recognize when things are going the wrong direction. Please listen.

Bro, I feel ya - Same frustrating experience here - won't switch to Trade though, which means that I am quitting POE2 for now.
Yup, to each their own though, as it seems some are enjoying overall.

Time will tell re. the player base later on.

Yes, Early Access, but personally, was mediocre at best for me overall. I'm not so keen on maps...especially once I see more of the community talk about it as well (YouTube, etc)...the feedback is more negative and has a long way to go, so that made it even less interesting/appealing. Kinda funny, as I kinda believed the hype from all the videos before release, so many were like "the next thing, Diablo II successor, etc" and I kinda bought into the hype too in a way. Now, I'm on my 3rd class/character and we'll see how that goes (and last most likely [I really doubt real change will happen unfortunately]). But not interesting in trying others out as they're not really for me, and I've already explored quite a few of the gems/skills anyway across classes (trying hybrid tank w/ Merc...was alright at 1st, but then fell off fast in mid 20s level lol). Actually kinda looking forward to this 3rd char as I'll have minions to do the tanking for me instead now haha (Witch). Overall though, again, personally, still lots of room for improvement - balance changes galore (not saying balance is easy) - and honestly expected Early Access to be a bit better but I also understand nowadays...it's getting tougher w/ budget/economy/game dev costs/etc etc etc. Not going to get my hopes up as it's too much outstanding to do lol. Like others in the community have said, the "identity crisis" is a place to start and own - as I still that's important of course...perhaps GGG wants it to be a hybrid (campaign, PoE1 maps, or a mix) - and well not sure how well that'll go lol. I really do hope the player base will remain/grow from solid replayability/longevity, but again, personally, I'm not seeing it. I also feel that many folks have already expressed the woes from PoE1 and that they're still here in PoE2 essentially (like ranged > melee) - that's just unfortunate to hear (and believe now that I've tried it myself and confirmed via various sources, pros, etc) -- again, I'm not saying game-balance is easy, but at least make an effort from the past...seems like not much has changed from PoE1 in that aspect and that's too bad.

We're not talking about rough edges and simple balance. We're complaining about intentional design choices that GGG already knew the POE1 community hated in the previous game, and they doubled-down on them here.

This is the culmination of the oft-ridiculed "vision", and here is the result. It feels very much like the Archnemesis mods or the Kalandra loot changes, with players almost universally complaining about how awful they wee, but Chris Wilson stubbornly trying to shove his vision down everyone's throats and trying to convince them they should enjoy it.

People can and should be complaining, and doing so loudly. There's a really good game game/engine/design here and if GGG would get out of its own way and stop holding it back with their terrible ideas that we already knew were terrible from the previous game.

One primary example? Crafting in this game is AWFUL - not just bad. It's the most worthless crafting system I've ever come across in decades of gaming. It's not even a question whether it's bad. It's shameful that they released it this way, and it's almost a certainty that they'll have to abandon a lot of their decisions around it.
