Iam absolutely for removing it.

The interesting thing is that i see ppl arguing everywhere against it and that its not an issue while these threads pop up like mushrooms in the rain.

It's only an issue because many players ego identify with the mechanic.

That's all we're seeing here. Ego's feeling threatened, and then the same people going around insulting, and invalidating the opinions of others, because they're unable to step outside their worldview.

It's constantly being stated that the mechanic is frustrating. And then they come up with arguments like 'Skill issue' or 'ur build just sucks' or 'We don't need to make the game easier'. Because they feel removing the mechanic will suddenly make all their achievements less meaningful.

This is just a classic example of system 1 thinking, emotional reactions and arguments, and an inability to see others perspectives.

Unhealthy communication, entitlement, feeling of superiority. Talking down and attacking anything that threatens the ego.

The mechanic is, and always has been super frustrating. There are better ways to add challenge to a game. Anyone that stops to think for a second can realize we're not asking for the game to be easier. Just less frustrating.

It needs to be changed, especially if the game is to appeal to your more average player.

Hi average player here...it doesn't bother me at all cause I don't blame the game for me dying. I died...i deserve a penalty cause I goofed...
10% exp loss at lvl 90 is a killer for sure...
"fuck around and find out"

yeah it sucks but at 90 its no longer about XP and about currency. Focus less on xp and focus more on gathering currency.

I learned that in POE 1. Once you hit 90 you're build should basically be complete and now its time to grind and find those god-tier uniques and rare :)

That's great. You're entirely valid in your opinion on it. Just like others are.

You're not going to convince anyone to see your viewpoint by invalidating their opinions though.

Going around and saying things like "I don't mind it, if I die it's my fault, I deserved it' is your opinion. Not fact, and other people don't feel the same way you do about it.

And besides. There are better ways to challenge a player.

Thanks for proving my post with your immediate attempts to invalidate the frustration that others feel in regards to this mechanic.

I understand you don't see any issue with it. Good. If you like the mechanic, then I hope you can enjoy it.

But that is equally as valid as all the people saying it's a frustrating mechanic. And they aren't asking for the game to be easier because of it. I know I'm certainly not. I would rather they add in more challenges to the game.

I agree with what you said completely.

I'll even go one step further.

These elitists/veterans are not even as good as they would have you believe.
There are threads of POE veterans with thousands of hours complaining about the difficulty of the campaign. The campaign is breaking them.

Not Atlas.

Not Waystones.

Not juiced maps.

Not Pinnacle bosses.

They cannot even get through the campaign.

They have not even reached the level wherein the Death XP Penalty becomes a problem.

People are loudest about what they are not.

People are loudest about what they have not.

As a level 91 Titan, first-time POE player but longtime player of much more difficult, challenging and rewarding games, I see these elitists for what they are:

1. Scared
2. Arrogant
3. Entitled
4. Desperate to convince others of their superiority

But if you're actually good, you don't need to belittle others. You don't need to insult others. You just get on with your day, being good at whatever you've worked hard on to develop the experiene and skills for.

I'll keep supporting this game being challenging without punitive and frustrating systems. These systems, as they are, will actually kill this game to a wider audience. I would love to see as many people as possible of all different experience and skill levels enjoying this game, even if it's challenging at times.

I'll keep doing everything I can to embolden and empower people, especially newcomers, to voice their opinions even in the face of such toxic insecurity from the "veterans".

That's all it is: insecurity.

Elitists: We see you. You're not "that guy".
Newcomers: Keep speaking your truth. We're here for you.
The xp loss isn't going away just accept it. And xp loss isn't that big a deal it's the compounding effect of now your map is gone along with any loot, and if you're playing in a group you basically just have to wait 5-10 min for them to finish the map which is a shit gameplay experience for sure. I'm sure GGG will come up with something that makes dying not feel as bad say like you can reset the map and essentially get a redo with like a 20% hit to any beneficial mods. This would stop people from just dying there was thru a map which was their goal.

They want people to play more, not less. Look at the numbers on Steam, almost no drop. Probably they should INCREASE the penalty on death and have it kick EARLIER in progression.
In PoE2, enemies block movement, surround and kill, so not only build but also player skill is important. Attacks at the end of the game hurt, so you can't fight with a good build like in PoE, but you need to avoid attacks to a high degree like an Uber Boss. The increased frequency of death may be leading to dissatisfaction with the death penalty.

Ok so I think I noticed death penalty kicking in at mapping! GET RID OF IT!

Please put it on RUTHLESS mode only for those who want the extra punishment.

+1 Agree.

if you're dying a lot, your build sucks and you don't deserve to progress

You are whats wrong with the community. It's nothing to do with dying a bunch. If you spend hours grinding and gain minimal exp, then 1 single death just completely wasted all that time. It's especially bad with the cheese 1 shot mechanics and on death effects that are near impossible to see when surrounded by mobs, especially on an alter.

Seriously the "get good" crowd are only going to piss off the majority of people who don't spend 10 hours a day sucked into a game. This game can appeal to both but apparently some players are so full of ego they can't stand the idea that someone with a life and a job can progress.

cheese 1 shot mechanics and on death effects that are impossible to see?

then why do I have zero deaths betweeen level 85-91 although I'm farming T18 maps?

improve your build and it won't be an issue
