So. i can not defeat Geonor
" I had this issue, after about 10 deaths of not getting any further I re-rolled a new character, got through and one-shot him, it turned out I had to try some different skills...I went back to my first character, switched skills and got it with little issue. Lots of balancing needs doing here GGG. try a weapon swap with a frost nova setup, or some other off-spec AoE...fire wall with raging spirits maybe. with regards to OP, that does suck, and you have way more patience than me. 2 cold resistance rings helps, I got clipped plenty whilst rolling and lived. The harsh reality of making a game difficult is that a lot of people are going to be pushed out of being able to play, and with the commercial model of PoE I don't know how that's going to be profitable. |

After playing most classes I personally just recommend, that every class should play the first acts with a mix of armor/evade gear. With all the charging enemies and lack of resistances playing something like mana shield is ridiculously hard and annoying (even with low charge time).
The main issue is that most people are undergeared or unprepared (e.g. resistance rings and charms, no life regen etc.). If you get a frost resi ring and a frost charm for that boss you are almost frost capped for example and barely get freezed. Something many people also forget: Every class can wear a shield in second weapon slot and use rising shield. |

I cannot kill him either, 2 different classes, spent 6 hours just dying to this boss.
I do believe my reaction time is not good enough, and I keep taking hits in the second phase but the one move that keeps ending me is the ice breath. He has at least 2 voice line before he does the ice breath, but I am to slow to realize it and even if I still have life flash left it is to late or I rolled the wrong way. I do not play games following guides, I am not expecting to "face tank" any boss. The issue is that as this game is right now, it is asking way more from me that i am able to give it. Yes I am kinda old (46) and apparently to slow, and I am just sad that I am getting left out of what could be a great game. Aside, I really find it baffling that people say "build issue", in Act 1. If a "proper build" is needed for the act 1 boss, with how few items drop and how random the benefit of currency items are, that is quite an ask. Not a proper build but rather a proper single-target skill. If you have high damage the boss fight becomes much easier.

" Odd ... I had problems with some of his dodge or die mechanics but never the ice breath. It only annoyed me as it [unfailingly] would target my totem so my damage uptime was "F tier" While I did beat the boss [took 5 times at least though] I'm in the same boat that I feel my reaction time isn't good enough given the [extreme?] focus made on boss dodge-or-die or ascension via Sanctum. While I imagine I could grit through it it would be a chore and wouldn't be fun. Odd that I'm saying this but going back to SSF Ruthless in PoE1 will be liberating as I can pick & choose if/when I want to interact with similar mechanics. |

" True, but won't work against the red ring attack(OP's most troublesome mechanic) on the boss without the warrior ascendency that lets you block all hits. Just like evasion, block only works on strike/projectiles, not slams/comet-like things. |

I understand this, for act 1 boss. Geonor is too much into iframe for first campaign boss. Most of attack need iframe than getting out of it.
- Red slam telegraph should start as soon as he charge up, not half second before he land. His howl so wimpy that barely noticeable unless highly focus too. - Cold/Blood Beam activation time is too shot for RNG base attack. The actual aoe is just too big for this quick snap. Make it activation 2.5 second after appear would be nice. - Mist phase is just pure bad of tanky adds that move faster than you without mid tier MS gear. You even have to count the timer for his charge yourself since it's too chaotic. Show a line for 1.5 second before he change can help a bit. But adds need like 50% lower HP. You need like lot more HP and regen to get through it with slow reflex. Also more if you get through him since next second boss will hit like 450 HP per swing... that fun indeed. Slow in, slow out cuz I'm just a player.

I'd suggest anyone struggling on this boss to take their next exalt to the trade site and buy the highest DPS weapon you can find for your character. There are a lot of tutorials out there for how to use/sort on the trade site.
Its still PoE, if you can't find good items to help you get through a boss, just buy them. SSF is almost a challenge mode, don't hobble yourself to only what you find unless you specifically made an SSF character. Hell take 2ex, buy a weapon and a chest piece with the highest health/armor you can buy. Trading is easy, its a core mechanic of the game, other exiles out there would happily sell you their old gear that they used to beat this or any other boss. |

" I think you need to get break-point level to be able to trade first, hence hit the wall. Also, it should be less punishing than trade to get pass the wall in the first place. Slow in, slow out cuz I'm just a player.

i kept dying to geonor with my warrior
i went back to town, changed my charm to the cold one, got an armour with 2 sockets and put 2 glacial runes totalling 40 ish cold resistance this made the fight so much easier the worst part is when he starts spamming the red beams, you need to literally stop attacking because of movement speed and you need to time the roll because only the first frames get you invincibility |
