Feels like a scumbag moment from GGG

"

It's irrelevant if GGG needs funding or support, it's about how they have chosen to frame this early access. Most aren't complaining because they don't want to support GGG, they are upset because this approach undermines the free-to-play promise by putting a price on what is effectively the game itself.

Free-to-play should mean something. It's about funding through optional purchases, not using the term as a loophole for additional monetization.

Half of the game has price tag, complete one wont. Its not out yet, deal with it. You make illogical and simply stupid arguments because you feel entitled to play the game. Again the only other option would be waiting a year. If they made it free for all now it wouldnt be EA anymore, it would be full release. Full release of incomplete game and THAT would be a marketing disaster.

If you've gladly spent 1500 bucks on better looking pixels there's no way to bring you back brother, sorry. There isn't a decent enough job on the planet to justify it. The only way they got that much out of you is by overpricing the hell out of their MTX store.

It doesnt work like that. Its fully optional purchase, they can even price it 1000$ for a pair of boots, it has no impact on the game itself. Its either worth it for you or it isnt. Why do you care? You dont need it, you never will.

You made it this far before your trolling was 100% showing. You should be proud :)
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
Other developers have charged $10 or more on top of a $60-$70 pricetag for 3 days of early access. $30 total for months of early access seems much more player-friendly than bundling a few extra days with $100 special editions.

Well, there's also the minor thing of making a FUNCTIONAL GAME which encourages me to support their efforts and if I get a whole bunch of shinies in exchange - I'm all for it.

Calling it "half the game" doesn't change the fact that people are paying to access what is clearly a functional and playable product. If the "complete" version won't have a price tag, why does this version that players care about suddenly cost money?

Making it free for everyone now wouldn't be a marketing disaster, it would actually honour their free-to-play promise, but by charging for early access they're effectively selling the version that everyone wants, leaving little incentive or audience for the supposedly perfected free version in the future.

Because its early access. Thats how it works. Early access games must be functional.

Wrong. You not understanding what EA is just proves my point. Stay salty, i will gladly drink your tears. I even bought it, despite me never buying a supporter pack (cosmetics are not worth it for me) mauahaha.

So a Free game is going to get sold for $30. Probably sell 1 million+ copies just for the EA and this will basically just be the game release and they will rake in the dough as if it a paid game This reeks of scumbaggery.

Game: is free
Company: makes millions selling copies of the game for $30
GGG: ;)

Eh ? I bought a supporter pack, got points and access. Nothing scum about that.

The regional pricing, on the other hand, might be a scum move if they are in om it.

Paid early access doesn’t make sense for free-to-play games, regardless of their current state.

Yes, it does. So much so a lot of people are buying in.

If it doesn't make sense to you, fine, just wait until the game goes open beta or for the 1.0 and play it for free.

Hope it helps.

Just because people are buying in doesn't mean it makes sense for the free-to-play model. Free-to-play games thrive on optional purchases, not charging for access upfront.

Telling people to "just wait" ignores the fact that early access here is the game for most players. By the time the free version comes out it's relevance will have passed, and this effectively replaces the free-to-play experience with a paid one.

This isn’t a difficult concept to grasp, even for the most dedicated GGG enthusiasts. If you're paying $30 to play the game now, the "free-to-play" promise starts to feel meaningless.
