POE Whales - What are your thoughts on PoM ban and losing thousands $$?

Realize Digital items have zero intrinsic value, they are not our "asset".

Spending your money on digital items isn't an "investment", it's a "donation" for something of no legal material value (other than what you, personally, felt it was worth at the time of purchase), therefore doesn't even really exist legally on your machine, you're just leasing the intellectual property for your upfront fee, GGG still owns the intellectual property outright, so they can do with it what they please.

From a strictly legal standpoint, you cannot take something away from someone that they never legally owned in the first place. That's why no one has ever successfully sued a "software as a service" gaming studio for material losses after an account suspension.

I don't agree with the lifetime ban, but buyer beware, any digital effect you purchase to view on your account is part of that "software as a service' Terms of Service legality clause, which, if you read the fine print, specifically stipulates they can legally revoke or deny access to anything they like on your account for violations of the ToS you agreed to.

if i bought a supporter pack in the last 14 days i would be eligible for a full refund for any reason i want i'm glad there are sane people who fight for consumer's rights for virtual products :)

I bought a supporter pack and I didn't ask for a refund even though I am extremely disappointed in Chris/GGG. My reasoning being, he didn't keep this boat afloat and dominating the genre for ~10 years by accident.

Path of Exile is still the only good "thinking man's" ARPG. And let's be honest, even a whale is still likely spending pennies an hour for the entertainment. People who have the discretionary income to be whales, also tend to have the discretionary time to have whale-like play-time/League as well.

Doesn’t bother me at all.

You don’t shit where you eat and you don’t shit on people who are selling you stuff. Path of Math managed to do both at the same time. This ban is a case of poor judgment meeting consequences.
As a gamer in general I accept that all the money I spend on games are just like spending them on a vacation, as an example. I pay, I have fun playing the game, and done. Whatever happens after that it does not matter, I will never get those money back, but I'll remember the fun.

Same for PoE. Every pack I've bought, I did it for two reasons: to support the game, and for the shiny MTX (plus those handy tabs). The tabs help me enjoy the game, the cosmetics make me feel good. Overall I payed for a good time, and received a good time. Money well spent, if you ask me.

I am no where close to whale status, but I am definitely going to keep hold on purchasing anything for now. I watched PoM Videos and streams and I gotta say, he did a good job in promoting POE all his entire streams. But to ban him for his critical thoughts towards the game is just unjust.

he got banned for his inflammatory comments regarding chris wilson from grinding gear games lack of hair and called him mean words
99.9% (and that's a conservative value) are not going to find themselves in that situation. At least he got some "content" out of it? lol

Chris Rock got slapped for less.

I had heard of Path of Math, saw a few videos of his, never followed him, never watched his Twitch stream...he was "just a dude". So I am not personally invested in his actual ban. However, as someone who has spent some real life Money on POE, this does bring up some concerns for some of us who are spending thousands of dollars supporting GGG by purchasing the supporter packs and MTX each month.

PoM has spent upwards of tens of thousands of dollars on POE. GGG will not refund any of that; lol. He has lost a good chunk of money. Now it is no secret GGG did not appreciate PoM's criticism of where POE is headed over the years. He is a vocal little angry dude; no doubt. But, I would also wager most GGG players are not either. Steam's rating of POE has gone way down to the very bottom reds; "Mostly Negative". Ghazzy was screaming at the top of his lungs just the other day, "FIX IT! FIX IT! FIX ITTTTT!" in his last video. Same with EmpyrianGaming, and so on and so on, there are tons of rage videos at GGG on Youtube.

However, the main issue I wanted to point out, I am worried about supporting GGG in the future, as we could lose all of the money we spent on the game in a flash because of an opinion we shared outside of this game we play. What if someone screenshots something I said about GGG or one of their employees on the TFT Discord? Will I be banned and lose all my Supporter packs and MTXs also?

And I am curious to know what other big spenders think about this. Are you comfortable spending a a significant amount of your annual gaming budget on Path of Exile going into the future? Genuinely curious.
No concerns whatsoever, and nobody else should either unless they are a dysfunctional human being.

Every content creator for GGG has had issues with this patch. Many of them have responded in anger. Only one has been banned that we know of, and it is extremely obvious why. You cannot go around and personally insult people to that degree and expect them to just take it. PoM was not banned for being critical of GGG or the league. He was banned for being a fucking prick.
