What federal law!?
When you installed this game you voluntarily accepted the TOS and thereby agreed with one of the rules that you can be removed from the game at the discretion of the author, even without his obligation to give any explanation for it.

In german atleast ToS is not the Law, you can put in the TOS what you like.
like when you click accept i get your first born. i refuse to give my kid to them bc its stupit and they Sue me.

then the law comes in and most like i hope so i can keep my kid ^^

Did he violate TOS or not? If so, then fuck him.

I'm pissed that they removed ultra-widescreen support for 32:9.

I've spent thousands on PoE over the past decade.

I bought a nifty new monitor for $1.2K just for this game, and particularly for this league.

Fuck these guys for what they've done to me. I have a hard time with it and probably won't ever play the game like I did before.

As far as i remember, ultra widescreen monitors giving advantage over regular sized monitors. You can see further right? Its a good thing they removed ultra wide support.

I don't know, I've never done any ladders or played with other players. I play solo only.

I guess if it were true, then why give it to us for years? And without warning yank it away?

You might not have experienced it but trust me it was worth me upgrading my monitor to 49" to enjoy it. For years.

I'm happy to click a button and disable ladder/league if we can access ultrawide.

Who the fuck cares about someone elses enjoyment of the game?

I would side with you if this game had offline single player mode.
Don't get me wrong, i don't mind you see offscreen compared to my point of view, but there is competetive spirit in this game and good chunk of players, so it is nice to eliminate stuff that gives advantager over others.

Plus , where you gonna cross the line about stuff like this, if you allow some people who uses pretty expensive monitors to see more stuff, and then you will allow people to use gaming mouses for complex macros?

So i guess its good to cross the line at start of everything.

This is a road we do not wanna go down. Yes PoM was out of line, so what?? Is this really what the world is coming to?? Soon will i not be able to play video games if i am not woke ?? If i type the wrong thing will i be banned too??? Insanity is what it is, you were insulted by some neckbeard get over it..... Banning him from the game absolutely outrageous and we as society as a whole is heading down a dark and dangerous road here with stuff like this

Yeah, it's truly a dark world where one can't go around freely spewing bile without consequence. The horror!

Seriously, though... POM wasn't banned because he "wasn't woke". He wasn't banned because he "typed the wrong thing". And being banned from a video game isn't "absolutely outrageous" and "heading down a dark and dangerous road".

This is a private business choosing not to provide a service to a customer. This is something that happens normally every day by businesses all around the world, and has been this way forever. It's not "Orwellian" as some in this thread claim; there's no oppressive government involved here. It's just the way the real world works. And believe it or not, we and GGG are not actually in Wraeclast.

No. Unfortunately what you are saying is not accurate. There are many many reasons you cannot refuse customers mainly due to federal anti-discrimination laws, just as there are reason you can refuse service. I am not going to get into the details of that, but just saying a lot of people like to throw around that talking point, "businesses have the right to refuse service" - as a blanked statement that is inaccurate.

There a ton of Federal Anti-discriminatory laws, but here are some resources which can get you started on the right path to becoming more educated about your countries federal laws:

1. https://www.eeoc.gov/
2. https://www.justice.gov/

Stay educated my friend.

You're being quite arrogant here, telling me that I need to educate myself. Clearly you could use a refresher or two.

There are several places where those anti-discriminatory laws focus: housing, education, employment, lending, public accommodations, access for the disabled. There are specifically enumerated protected classes: age, race, ethnic background, religion, sexual orientation, and perhaps a few others.

But what you won't see are laws that say "every business must serve everybody who wants to use their service". There are far far more ways a business can legally deny service than there are restrictions on those denials. Not wearing shoes? A business can tell you to go away. Chweing gum? Same. Badgering employees? You can be kicked out. Heck, police will haul you out if you don't leave.

This is a video game company restricting access to their service. They are not providing housing or education or public accommodation or any of the other sensitive services that most anti-discrimination laws target. Video-game players or streamers are not protected classes. This kind of run-of-the-mill denial of service is commonplace and perfectly legal.

So, please feel free to take your own advice and read up a little. I can see some useful starting points linked above.

those lines in the tos are just there for extreme cases i don't think what pathofmath did is that extreme he just hurt chris wilson from grinding gear games' feelings he shouldn't have said that but he said it outside of services offered by GGG so he wasn't even under their ToS lol

Anyway, I'm not getting into who's right, and whether that guy deserved this. Discretion means that the subject does not have to give a reason.
GGG has the right to protect its interests, whether they do it correctly is their business.

I'm going to assume that GGG consulted with their general counsel before banning PoM.

Right - so let's ban:

- Mechanical keyboards
- 12 button mice
- Access to Subtractem videos
I just think fundamentally that the amount of people who own a 49" G9 is so low, in the percentage of total Path of Exile population, that it's negligible impact for everyone as a whole. I just can't see this advantage.

And listen - if someone wants to be competitive in that sense, they can still buy a big monitor. Who the fuck cares.

GGG is a private company in NZ. It's part of the contract you sign to be allowed to play their game that you don't harass or attack their employees. This guy did just that, multiple times and on public platforms designed for everyone to hear him. Get rekt.

you agree to those ToS when playing the game or using their forum not when talking aloud on camera in a different platform that isn't under their ToS that's what i think is unfair about his ban if he said those things here on the forum or in game without a doubt his ban would be fair and reasonable but like this it's just GGG power tripping and making up their own rules not stated in ToS

lol they can just ignore him. It's way TOO easy to just ignore. Not sure why people say he deserved a ban for an opinion regardless of how emotional he was. This simply proved how much GGG hate the criticisms and it's clear as day none of them know what they are doing, and for long time too. It's like having a bipolar disorder on decision making.

he was being an absolute asshole throwing a lot of insults that's not an opinion

You're just incorrect. Harassment doesn't HAVE to happen ONLY on these forums or in game to receive punishment. If he had called Chris on his personal phone then threatened him, they'd be in just as much right to ban his account. This idea that you're completely immune to consequence because you harassed a GGG employee on a different platform is insane.

And in case you're unaware, this isn't a specific GGG thing. MANY companies and social media platforms will ban you for actions taken somewhere else.

When it comes to TOS and consumer’s right law, it is not always face value and linear as seen and signed. I cannot say for the rest of the world, but in the US certain consumer’s rights are literally unalienable, such as to return, to exchange like kind because of defect, to sue on a court instead of limited to arbitration, et cetera. This is despite any TOS or NDA the consumer accepted prior that excluded said rights.

As such, ALL businesses that operate in the US must respect this implied mandate. Because push comes to shove the court can and often disregard the TOS argument. Not that peanut of an issue would get to that intensity, but food for thought - dont blindly accept TOS as got you by the balls.
