Question: When did crafting become the main aspect of an ARPG?
I dislike the premise of this question, which is "X mechanic was so great 30 years ago, why do you want Y now?" I don't want to go back to not using the internet just because I lived through pre-internet times.

Crafting is the core of this game. It's throwing resources at things to generate value from thin air.
When you burn sextants and scarabs, you are crafting as well. Every freaking thing in this game is crafting, your craft your way to even negate boss mechanics(because with your gg gear you phase them, outregen or facetank anyway). And the faster your build is, actually the more time you spend crafting. Rolling maps and handling stash/inventory ergonomy is also craft related and as it gains time it is a game changer. Now about crafting items, Harvest then 3.13 with semi deterministic elevated crafts(up to 3 without any huge gamble) switched all the paradygms. Now an item that drops passed 1 or 2 week in the league is basically worthless, even gg bases won't sell for much :). We are now in an era where poeple who can read the meta can make 30-40ex profits from braindead crafts and we have to accept it. When you see some yellows at 300-350ex, well they cost as much to craft on averagen, the guy who crafted them in order to make a sell basically gambled currency and I thanks them for that, because I'll never have the balls to 5x elevate a pair of boots. Economy has changed, power level caps have changed, but the core money maker of the game since the release of forsaken masters is to know your shit and to tweak those items the best you can. " I do like it. Has potential. Just skeptical if the loot/crafting choices will keep my attention long term. |

" Kind of is a big thing in Last Epoch. |

Crafting was great in DAoC. Not really an ARPG, but somewhat similar. Not going to get into an "is-is not" kind of thing.
I'll go as far to say that crafting is what makes PoE special from day 1. The whole game revolves around it to some degree. Modifying items to make them work better has been here since day one. I remember when they added crafted items to D2 and I tried to make a character that used crafted items exclusively. Didn't work very well. Last edited by Shagsbeard#3964 on Mar 11, 2021, 1:55:51 PM

What game are you playing?, there are ARPGs that are based on Farming, but POE the whole system works based on craft, from each of the types of currency to 90% of its mechanics is to craft something

Things like spamming fusing orbs is not exactly what people mean when they say crafting.

I dont remeber crafting in TQ first game like this I played. I happen to enjoy finding stuff. Feels good when you do.. now all I look for is a i86 crusader chest and harvest nodes one I got some basic janky mapping gear found.
Because I know nothing is this game I could possibly find compares. I literally run neversink uber strict filter so most rares never show. I make my own. Shouldnt be that way. Git R Dun! Last edited by Aim_Deep#3474 on Mar 11, 2021, 2:51:45 PM

If you are picking up and IDing enough items to find a random item worth keeping you are wasting hours and hours of time for nothing more than mostly alt shards.

" Gratefully, it wasn't always like that. Happy they are somewhat going back, especially with the new rare itemization in poe 2 "Path of Exile's engine is currently modern, lean and fast." - Chris Wilson, September 19th, 2019 "It looks like we broke something with 3.10.0. We don't know what it is yet." - Bex, March 16th, 2020 Last edited by girng#7675 on Mar 11, 2021, 3:00:26 PM
