Question: When did crafting become the main aspect of an ARPG?
I don't know how many people here have played Diablo 2 but crafting, apart from rune words you could look up on the internet, was not the main aspect. It was either grinding or trading.
Looking at the dissatisfied post I can't help but notice that many people believe crafting to be the end-all of everything. Why? Why such an insane focus on crafting in an ARPG? And btw don't tell me that crafting has always been numba one in PoE, you all know its trading. Until it became trading for crafts. When it gave people power. People get a toy they don't want it taken away.

" Why not? Why does it always have to be the "pick up and throw it on"-mechanic? I personally love complicated stuff so I embrace that you have some agency about your items and I also love the idea of starting with a white base type and work towards your endgame item on it. For me that´s unique, no other game has it. Just run around and drop stuff - that´s just the gist of it in every other game, its boring. Edit: That also was true pre-harvest by the way. I dislike the changes for several reasons, but the basic idea of crafing rather than dropping the gear is still very much favoured by me. Last edited by Vennto#1610 on Mar 11, 2021, 9:52:50 AM

when the loot was bad, ARPGs are about character progression, progression from drops in PoE is almost completely absent aside from select boss drops.
End result crafting is the only character development aside from levels which occur anyway and have limited use past a certain point. Grinding and trading in D2 are the same thing, grinders are trying to gain power, traders are either swapping their grind for power or acting as a parasite to get power either way its how you developed your character. So many items you find during maps are tradable it is not honest to say that the drops are bad. You sell them, get currency, get gear.

Aren't all or most of currencies in POE for crafting?
If you can't control it, STOP.

They are gold substitutes as well as crafting components, not one or the other.

since when did crafting are not a main aspect of POE? it's always been like this, and it's kind weird that someone want to remove it since you know exaclty what you sign up for. it's not like they randomly put crafting into the game.

" Still, one of POE's main focus is crafting. If you can't control it, STOP.
