Clear speed is best thing about PoE

It's the only way visa vi game play. You simply will not be able to confront end game bosses unless you sift through millions of monsters loot. You can't do that volume w/o zoom zoom. Not saying you need a HH or even explody but massive aoe one shotting screens at least.

We know clearing fast with high mob density is the most efficient way to gain exp/loot (all else equal), but effective != fun.



I have a simple thought experiment.

If we took out exp gain & remove loot, Will the clear speed gameplay still be fun? Would you still play it?

If your answer is along the lines of "Sure" "! I play poE for the fun of killing stuff fast" etc then good for you.

If your answer is "No", or along lines of "whats the point of playing if there is no loot/xp, its a loot base game" "It will be fun & fullfilling to see in action how good my build is, but I guess the feeling will wear off fast"

Then what you are saying is, its more for efficency than fun. Doesn't mean it cannot be fun, but efficieny is the mean reason.


I do not want to decide your view, its your own. What I would say is IMO, the strength of good gameplay is, even if you remove the carrot at the end of the stick, people will still want to do it.
OP is conflating speed and power interchangeably its kinda hard to follow the point, not all fast builds are powerful and not all slow builds are weak.

Of course its the carrot if they say otherwise they are lying to themselves. Thats why slot machine video games don't sell and casinos are packed. If they removed loot no chance people would want to play mind numbing explode everything farming.

About the only thinking going on is can you do map or some weird tag like reflect that makes it not. And even then some builds can do all maps blind. After that it's just like puling a slot machine over and over and over. Booooring.

Thats probably why Chris doesnt even play his own game anymore. Too busy too exciting things like fishing lol.

Speed builds are fine. My problem is when that "speed" actually break the game.

You move so fast the game cant keep up. Grow to the size of your screen so you cant actually see anything. It causes massive FPS issues and lags (which could be 100% deliriums fault as well)

The cause of it all. Headhunter and Delirium maps.

When i get to this point in a league. Have HH and 100-200 ex in the bank. And there are many builds i kinda wanna try. But the first thing i always ask myself "is this build good with a HH and can it do 100% delirium maps" which then immediately just excludes a TON of builds.
Because why after farming 100% delirium would you want to go back to a build that cant do it or just barely. Now i realize this is a "me" problem but its a problem nonetheless.

Fast but weak: labrunners. Doing it good enough, don't need much damage.

Fast but no defences: deep delvers. Doing what it need to do good enough, no point of defences in deep delve anyway.

Slow but powerful: dedicated bosskillers who doing only elder/uelder/maven etc.

Except those edge cases, fast and powerful is the same for mapping. Power creep of the game leads to builds clearing the content faster.
