...The inevitability of shit always coming back to the RMAH is reducing my desire to post anything but snarky commentary almost to zero.
I think comparing D3 to PoE is healthy and only to be expected, and I'm not going to waste time re-explaining why. But to discuss one of D3's defining features which will, at this point, NOT be one of PoE's defining features isn't to compare the two games, it's to use one of them to piss and moan about the other.
...And the funny thing is, both sides are doing it.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

So much hate, especially from people who didn't even play one of the games.
I anticipated D3 for way too long, still didn't cancel my preorder, love PoE to death so far. Also backed Grim Dawn for 50$, as much I paid for this gem so far.
I love ARPG's, I don't create opinions of games I didn't even touch yet (I deliberately avoided news about gameplay developement and playing D3 beta so it will all be fresh to me without having suffered huge disappointments).
I'll play them all and probably one more than the others. If D3 doesn't deliver I won't be fed an expansion or anything it's pretty simple. Sure as heck I'll be playing PoE for years to come, now it's the other games that prove themselves, that doesn't mean other games should be shot down before you even played them.
How do you know the people shooting it down haven't tried it?

So the fact that PvP is coming shortly after launch makes a Co oP centred game now single player?? The primary focus of Diablo has always been the PvE aspect. Always.
Is GGG not in this to make money? I guess we can assume that PoE was designed from the ground up around the cash shop. And I actually believe that to be far closer to the truth then the RMAH situation.
Yes PVP is coming SOON(tm), so we should expect this within a few years. The cash shop vs RMAH thing as its just asinine. I don't care that D3 was designed around an RMAH just as I don't care that PoE was designed with the cash shop in mind. I was just pointing out that it was pretty obvious and to deny it is silly. Diablo has never been a co-op game by my estimation. I played D1 by myself. I played D2 on LAN at initial launch and essentially played single player on battle.net after LOD. Sure you can co-op, but there was no need to. I really hope that D3 at least keeps this consistent. If there is 'group only' content it is just that much more of a turn off to actual diablo fans.
You can play by yourself online, if you choose.
"Your estimation" is the key word. Not by Blizzards estimation. Since they're the creators of the series, i'll take their word on it.

Again, always online is dumb. People who want to play single player shouldn't be forced to be connected to the internet. The only reason Blizzard ever took this decision was because with the RMAH they can't let players fuck around with the game. It's only to make the RMAH work.

Again, how is this ANY different then PoE? it's always online, so I guess it's "dumb" right?
Double standards much?

To make the RMAH work?
That's the poorest fail-reason for blizzard implementing online-always.
People who would play singleplayer won't be buying any RMAH items anyway.
Sorry, xxnoob, but I expected you to try at least a little bit harder.
My bet is, it only costs them money to create an offline mode given that it's created to work with Bnet, so they decided not to do it.
After all, the only people who would benefit from it are a couple of fossiles from several generations ago, and the insanely small amount of people with such bad internet that even Diablo 3's (amazing) latency system doesn't allow them to play properly.

Actually you are very very wrong.
Blizzard North was originally an independent company. It was established in 1993 under the name Condor, founded by Max Schaefer, Erich Schaefer, and David Brevik. The company was purchased and renamed by Blizzard about six months before the release of their hit PC game, Diablo, in 1996.
Blizzard North / Condor were the actual creators of Diablo. To start up the flame war again, Blizzard/Activision are just developers who are desecrating its corpse.

PoE is free to play.
And your point is?
It's still online only for single player, which by your very words is "Dumb"
So by your logic, PoE is dumb because it requires online access to play by yourself.

I fail to see your point?
you understand that it was Blizzard who said no to Condor making it a turn based claymation game, right?
The very essence that is Action RPG which Diablo 1 defined as a genre was because Blizzard made radical changes to the game Condor was making when they bought them out.
