Well apparently slack is being defined here as postponing features or deciding not to do them.
GGG, like any developer, has decided to remove or postpone plenty of things. Thus, they are slacking.

Ah, the usual linguistic barriers. I can't speak to what xxsjxx1 meant, but by the tone I think they were using the 'everyday' definition of 'slacking', which is, not to put too fine a point on it, 'slacking off' -- i.e. not doing their job.

A deliberate decision to post-pone something based on a set of priorities is not necessarily slacking (off), but when it appears that the postponement is hard to justify, then we can accuse the party of 'slacking off'.

GGG are very careful to explain their goals, milestones and order of priorities. They're typically realistic about when things will happen, and leave things vague if they don't actually know. They are, in short, honest with themselves and with their consumers. I'm sure it's not all roses and peaches behind the scene but that's not really our problem.

The're a very small team with a LOT to do. It'd be almost illogical to look at Path of Exile as it stands right now, consider the size of the team making it, and say, 'you guys are slacking off because [insert game feature here] isn't in!' The biggest problem is, to me, the lack of a better trading system, but even the absence of that is assuredly temporary and they'd be risking a fair bit to go open beta without one. I don't think it'd be a game breaker, but it's important. Still, small team, big achievement so far. I've seen road gangs with more members than GGG do little more than stand around and look braindead, day in, day out.

Blizzard, on the other hand, is gargantuan and have been slacking because they can. At the risk of repeating myself, they know their games will sell like crazy whether or not certain features are included. Not too long ago, I would have laughed at the idea of a Diablo game coming out with no PvP inherent, but there it is. And you know it won't make even a tiny dent in their sales. It'll come out eventually, and then they can just patch it in.

What should, in my eyes, have been a release feature is not. When you're talking about a triple A company with more money than a small country and a very, very strong history of PvP popularity in their games, this is almost inexcusable. It is most assuredly slacking.

Slacking in any company means throwing money away.. and no company want that.. nor they can...even Blizzard is not big enough that they can slack as they want.

But look.. it's like.. I don't know.. 6 months ago already.. when first beta manifesto was written.. when they said sixth class is basically done and will be implemented into the game in short-mid term .. well..as you can see.. nothing is still there..they pushed open beta over year already ..etc etc etc.. by your definition.. GGG is slacking too.. doesn't matter they are small..they game is also much smaller compared to D3.. so this should offset their size of team.. or not?

I think you are looking everything through fanboy glasses ...or hater glasses if you want. You just can't argument properly anymore in any of these threads which are including D3 vs PoE theme.

Just my opinion.
The above post aptly illustrates my position that to attempt to defend a position not entirely pro-D3 is futile. The D3 stalwarts aren't really interested in your answers; they simply want another opportunity to point out how "wrong" you are.

Pointless trying to explain when they have all the answers (that they care to hear). ='[.]'=

Sometimes it's really hard not to be offended by you, but I know, or at least like to believe, you mean well, despite the accusations and assertions. Your entire second last paragraph is nothing but an insult, and is duly ignored. Especially the bit about me being unable to argue the point of D3 vs PoE anymore. Although I will concede my original argument is sort of hard to top. :)

So I will answer, despite a distinct uncertainty whether or not it'll have any real positive outcome. I think you should re-read your posts before hitting submit, by the way. They're sometimes very hard to follow.

My answer:

Plenty of companies accept a measure of 'thrown away money,' particularly those that know their profits will more than make up for it. Acceptable losses are a game of balance -- in Blizzard's case, the query may have arose: if we don't get PvP in before release, how much money are we losing? Probably less than if I we don't get a working skill rune system, Auction House, etc. So PvP is shuffled further down the list of priorities, and as I've said, I think in terms of a Diablo game, that is slacking. Any lost profit from the missing PvP must have been decided as worth the risk.

The Sixth class was announced a while ago, but the implementation of traps has been the noted roadblock. That's right there in the beta manifesto too. I don't care how long ago they announced it or felt it was almost done: they've given a viable explanation for why it isn't out yet.

Regarding team size: we can say that this point that Path of Exile's first and second acts are somewhat comparable to Diablo II's. Forget Diablo 3 -- it's a blockbuster with a small army working on it. It'd be impossible to scale that down to compare it to GGG's eighteen employees. So, we work with the following information:

That team created D2 in 4 years, and with the profits made from D1, which were not inconsiderable. For a self-and-privately funded team such as GGG to achieve something similar and in turn push certain boundaries in 5-6 years is very much an achievement. I still cannot see this as 'slacking off.'

If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

Its been 10-12 years since D2 was released

D3 uses a fixed camera, has very unimpressive textures and graphics.

I'm just not impressed, I bet the story is really good... But seriously, paths graphics and grim dawn both make diablo 3 look like a child's game. I'm not being a hater, I played D2 since it came out... Up until 6 months ago. The truth is that D3 is a let down for most diablo 2 vets.

Once you get past the "aura" that you're playing the d3 beta... It's just not impressive

Blizzard is a huge company, I expected killer sharp graphics. When you have 3D large scale games like BF3 pushing the envelope you should be able to impress me when using a fixed camera with tiny characters.

The textures and water in path, individual blades of grass and leaves... They're nice and put d3 to shame

Same goes for grim dawn, awesome spell effects and particles, realistic smoke...

Diablo 3 should be all that and then some, because of the price tag, time in development, and the fact that they're taking even more revenue in the auction house... Oh not to mention their huge development team.

By slacking I was referring to the fact that these teams of 5-10 people are putting out games that are CLOSE to the quality of diablo 3, and in some cases have better graphics. I don't doubt that the story of diablo 3 will probably be better, but I mean it's a huge company... Everything should be better. It's not though.
That's funny, because the detail on Path's graphics (not the overall art style, which I like, but the level of detail) makes me want to poke my eyes out.

I can't tell if those guys on the ledge are dirty humans or zombies. They just look like... 2 legged blobs. I can't ever remember seeing "individual blades of grass" (unless you're talking about the freestanding wheat stalks - which, of course you can see them individual, they're all separated out and whatnot. :P)

I jumped for joy when I saw the new monster designs (the necromancer) planned for the Prison, because I totally agree with you -- the wretched in early act 1 are very, very unimpressive.

...I wonder if 'better monster textures and models' will be a cash shop item?! It's totally aesthetic, after all...!

Lol just the level texture / design

The monsters could be better, I just like the sharp graphics, shiny water, and higher res textures in path.

D3 has no eye candy in my opinion, I'm not into cartoony stuff

Last night I spent quite a while slowly grinding through FellShrines. I can honestly say that for the first time in I've lost track of how many times I've run through FellShrines, with going very slowly through the level of graphics are amazing. You can see the grass blowing in the breeze and I also noticed for the first time all the tiny little beetles that scury away from the zombie corpses after they fall.

Blizzard's formula for story writing: The good guys are corrupted by an ancient evil and become the main bosses.

Diablo in D3 looks like a woman, Leah is Diablo.
