Sounds to me like you're looking for a survival horror rpg, not an 'action' rpg.
I understand what you mean, but D1 and D2-3 aren't really in the same genre I feel.
Oh yeah. I was just saying the D1 atmosphere was great. D2 lost a little bit of this but still did ok. D3 throws the atmosphere away imo. As far as gameplay itself D3 feels really good, its just all of the mechanics and game systems that I dislike personally.
D1 was gothic horror.
D2 was high fantasy.
D3 is WOW-ish.

D3 is still high fantasy.

In a fashion, I guess. I've played WOW and D2, and D3 feels an awful lot more like WOW.

It's nothing like World of Warcraft in any way shape or form. There is, however, a consistent art style that exists in all Blizzards titles, because, it's their style.

The gameplay doesn't look like WOW, but the atmosphere does. This is probably because D3 is being made by different people than D2.

No, most of the people working on D3 are D2 devs.

Not Bill Roper, not Stieg Hedlund, not Eric Sexton, not Steven Woo, and not Michio Okamura.
It seems that all the competent people have left Blizzard.

Lol, "competent". Bill Roper is the only one to have success after leaving Blizzard with Champions Online. The rest faded into obscurity. I bet your enjoying all 0 games produced by Hyboreal Games / UI Pacific.

While I agree with the overall point of your post, never confuse competence with success...
