Reddit whining destroyed whole league mechanic in 5 days
" "ARPG" in this context meaning a Diablo clone. (And the Elder Scrolls series have never been considered ARPGs; they're western-style RPGs. Apples and oranges.) |

They removed/nerfed standard diablo clone stealth mechanics for heists though.
All the special mechanics are done by companions. |

" ![]() 1. Literally the first line. Just because that example doesn't work in your favor doesn't mean it suddenly doesn't count. Skyrim is a stereotypical arpg, it is the diablo clones that are the outlier. 2. Diablo clones have never had a real stealth-op mechanic until just now.. so when you say arpg stealth missions are different from non-arpg, what that really means is you pulled that out of your ass :) |

I can't believe that the world is in such a sad state that people will say "Skyrim is an ARPG" in a conversation and expect it to have any meaning.
IF Skyrim is an ARPG, all genres are meaningless. We're talking about the context where Skyrim is not an ARPG. The context where ARPG has meaning. Last edited by GUENWHYEVER#0334 on Sep 23, 2020, 10:05:53 AM

The problem in this thread is that people don't know what a arpg actually means.
Poe players think it means a diablo clone. As in like, the genre must be closed to like 5 games total, even though arpg is one of the biggest if not the single biggest gaming genre in existence. If we're just going to ignore the official game genres and go with our feelings then poe is closer to a dungeon crawler than an actual arpg. |

" The reason skyrim isn't an arpg is the focus is on exploration/adventure, not action. |

" 1 ) When I think ARPG, the Diablo and World of Mana series (Final Fantasy Adventure/Mystic Quest EU, Secret..., Trials.../Seiken Densetsu 3, Legend..., etc) come to mind immediately. When I think "western-style RPG", Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Baldur's Gate come to mind immediately. (The original one, not Dark Alliance, which is an ARPG.) The difference between the two? Western-style RPGs are built on their plotlines. ARPGs are built upon body counts. 2 ) That is because stealth and ARPGs do not mix. ARPGs thrive on fast, chaotic fights where you are expected to win by force of arms. Stealth mechanics are slow and methodical, and combat is treated as a last resort. The two are polar opposites, and ARPGs are not designed to take the slow approach, what with 3/4 view, enemies aggroing on LoE, and massive packs of enemies who care not for the idiot with the fancy goggles hiding in the bushes waiting for one of them to part from the pack so he can earn his ambuscade merit badge. |
