Path of Exile and p2w

No. If you truly think it's subjective, you must have been living in a cave without internet for years.

Here's the funny thing about that guy's post: he thinks that part is up for debate.

p2w is legally defined in most first world countries and their definitions are basically identical

What you witness here is a group of hardcore poe fans who are aware of the negative connotations of p2w, so they are applying a half baked "no true scottsman" fallacy to poe in order to separate the two... as if that's going to help the problem at all.

I think I got it. P2W isn't Boolean. It's not yes or no. It's a stupid term that we shouldn't be applying at all to these games.

The question shouldn't be "Is PoE P2W?" It's "Are the purchases you can buy in PoE ethical?"

+100, Shags. These p2w threads are so pointless.
May your maps be bountiful, exile

A legal definition of p2w? Where the hell would that be written?

p2w is nerd slang and its definition is debated since the invention of f2p. There are a lot of different f2p payment models and the shift from free to p2w is fluent.
Being fanatic and calling absolutely every marginal advantage from buying p2w has sadly not helped preventing the advent of f2p. Nowadays it's much more about the fairness of the model in general. And PoE is in my opinion solidly fair.

Not B2P though. You just pretty much sited the definition of "F2P".
I think the model of PoE is somewhat rare. Most f2p games I played give you options to gain the shop currency by playing, but at such a low rate that many end up paying (pay to progress).

In the US, Hawley Bill 05-2019:

"
SEC. 2. DEFINITIONS.

(7) PAY-TO-WIN MICROTRANSACTION.—
(A) IN GENERAL.—The term ‘‘pay-to-win microtransaction’’ means an add-on transaction to a interactive digital entertainment product that—
(i) with respect to an interactive digital entertainment product that, from the perspective of a reasonable user of the product, is a game offering a scoring system, a set of goals to achieve, a set of rewards, or a sense of interactive progression through the product’s content including but not limited to narrative progression—
(I) eases a user’s progression through content otherwise available within the game without the purchase of such transaction;
(II) assists a user in accomplishing an achievement within the game that can otherwise be accomplished without the purchase of such transaction;
(III) assists a user in receiving an award associated with the game that is otherwise available in association with the game without the purchase of such transaction; or
(IV) permits a user to continue to access content of the game that had previously been accessible to the user but has been made inaccessible after the expiration of a timer or a number of gameplay attempts; or
(ii) with respect to an interactive digital entertainment product that, from the perspective of a reasonable user of the product, is a game featuring competition with other users, provides a user with a competitive advantage with respect to the game’s competitive aspects over users who do not make such a transaction.

Imagine a bunch of old and out of touch politicians coming up with a definition that is inline with everyone that has common sense. That's how bad this "debate" is.
Thing is that stash tabs DON'T meet the definition there. A player with four blank tabs and the support of his friends will do just as well as someone with stash tabs and the support of his friends.

Stash tabs are helpful in playing solo. Very much so.

But if you have a friend who's willing to sell your stuff for you and do all the trading and what not, having a stash tab or a dozen isn't going to help at all.

You are not prevented from any aspect of the game, nor can stash tabs get you past any progress block or achievement. That would be strong enough to stand up in court if anyone was stupid enough to try this case.

Sorry but it's a crystal clear case of purchasing microtransactions in order to circumvent the game's deliberately bad design with handling loot and trade. Your argument is as stupid as EA's "surprise mechanics".

You can define your terms to fit your argument all you want, on either side, it doesn't matter. It is what it is, you call it p2w...so what. Don't like it, don't play. At least have the courage of your conviction.
Ah... the ol' "crystal clear" defense.

Stash tabs don't do any of the listed things:

They don't increase your rewards in any way. You can store rewards that you get. If you want, you can trade items away and not have to store them. If you would like to store them you can give them to a friend or store them on a mule. In no way are you being deprived of a reward because you don't have a tab.

There are no barriers to progression that a stash tab is required to break through. No where does the game require tabs. You want tabs. We get that. But it's not required at any stage.

There is no achievement in the game that requires a tab. You can build any character, you can gain any item you want through trade or by having a friend pass you the item. There is literally nothing in the game that you can't do without tabs. If you insist that getting items from friends isn't allowed, you'll have to take that to another thread.

No because they still fall under the definition of P2W.

It falls under YOUR definition, choosing to disregarding one of three words in the abbreviation.
