GGG do not give in to the crying masses

That sort of thread cracks me up :) "mindless masses of sheep", "the few". Lol.

And then a pile of guys try to one-up each other in "hardcoreness" and detestation of "casuals". To prove they're "part of the proud few".

It reminds me of some threads about rogue-likes... Where the local "hardcores" were explaining how games should only be played in green ASCII on black (to mimic prehistoric monitors) and then got into fights about how many lines of characters you could display to stay true to the original spirit.

There's a huge difference between wanting deep, complex systems and a gameplay hard to master for the challenge... And making a fetish of ANYTHING that can keep the "dumb masses" away.

Because, while in the first case you're just enjoying beinh challenged by the game... In the second you're just desesparately trying to be a "special snowflake". Which, frankly, no on cares about.

And anyway, there's no black and white divide between people. Not only do terms like "hardcore" and "casual" cover a continuum, but no two people agreee about what EXACTLY they entail. Playtime ? Taste for complexity ? Resistance to boredom ? Apart from being "Us" vs "Them", that is. Whoever "We" might be.

So, wherever you draw the line, it WILL be a compromise. Tuned to a smaller population, sure, but yet a compromise.

Very well stated. I could see a little justification in this thread if GGG was talking about, I don't know, removing skill points, or tying all skill and spell damage to your weapon; but as it stands, just keep on rocking GGG. And add /players X.
No. Calm down. Learn to enjoy losing.
Guys i had a lot of fun.. dont take yourselves too seriously and all that.

@Skjuld:

I think you may have misunderstood some of the points that were being impressed upon. It's not a issue of like/dislike of HC or SC playstyles whatsoever. But more of giving in to the demands of the mindless mass of talentless, button mashers that play games today.

Sure you can ask yourself, "oh what's the big deal if we give them x,y or z?" THAT'S WHERE IT STARTS. Then they weasel more and more and more from the devs to completely dumb down the game. Look at what happened with WoW. There's no denying that at one time in the beginning, it was a challenging and at times hard game. Now, you get a pet on one toon, all your toons get it. You get an achievement on one toon, all your toons get it. You buy a mount on one toon, yes you guessed it, you get that same mount on all your toons. Oh you can't beat the raid boss and wipe, no problem, we at Actiblizz believe we should make life as easy for you as possible so we're going to give you a buff everytime you wipe on that raid until the boss dies that gives you more health everytime and increases your attack/spell power.

Enough already with watering down and babying games. If you can't play it the way GGG sets it up, please go find something else that you can. Don't come in and tell them to change the entire game because a group of ppl want all their shit handed to them on a fuckin silver platter. Go play on a fun private server where they do that.
Rant over - have a nice day :)

I do know the difference between fact and opinion. And everybody knows in the world what the "masses" refer to. Unless you identify with the masses, then you may take issue with what I said. But it is what it is and cannot be changed.

Ya you called people mindless and sheep also, convenient of you to leave that out. Those are opinions not facts, apparently you don't know the difference.

Your rant above isn't even arguing with the issue at hand, its just complaining about a non existent slippery slope. Have more confidence in the devs, They will make concessions where they feel its necessary. If they are discussing looting options then apparently it wasn't all that importnat to them in the end now was it?

Facts can be proven. This is how science works. imastryker is 100% correct.

The masses will always be the masses - mindless, cannon fodder, that serve only to follow - nothing more and nothing less. We all know this, so why are you still harping on a dead issue?

Why are you spouting a bunch of non sense about "the masses". Does it make you feel good to be in a minority or something? Are you more right than other people because there is less of you? Argue an actual point or don't argue at all?

The masses want it easier eternally, and do not look back, ever.

The masses will bring the game to the point where the few with leave because they cannot distinguish themselves by their skill and knowledge, and then the masses will leave because they follow and secretly wants to be like the few.

Have courage GGG, we believe in the hardcore ARPG game, free loot, etc etc, a bloodthirsty enviroment where the few will have great fun, and the masses will not get their ways.

We already see it happening,

Some want floating damage numbers, some want no FFA loot, etc etc

They are here now in the community and they will not stop asking you to make the game more mindless.

I pray that you have the courage to resist and know that the game is yours to make to your vision, and that no amount of cry will make you give in.

It is like children - once you start giving in they know they can have their way and will never stop.

Never give in. You are reviving my hope in the ARPG genre.

this. Eternally this. Seen the whiners kill games too many times
