And Charan, you've got me all wrong. I don't want a straight line to victory, I want a challenge.

I didn't say you wanted one. That would be quite contradictory to everything else I said.

I said folks like you see one and take it if it's there because winning the game to you means taking the straight line to victory/power if it exists.

If you didn't, you wouldn't be complaining about the lack of challenge in the game, because you'd be taking more convoluted paths and having a fair bit of trouble with them. :)
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

You, on the other hand (and myself), can see the value in an upset balance and interpret it as grounds for exploration. We practice self-regulation and experimentation, and believe in making something challenging by doing it differently. For us, unbalanced games are a cornucopia of opportunities to mess around, to learn, to find new ways. To reject the norm and embrace the alternatives. We'll likely never be as powerful or competitive as the other camp, and in moments of lucidity we're okay with that. The flip side is when we're not okay with that, and everything seems so unfair and why should we have to be cookie cutters just to survive?! Well, we're the idiots self-gimping and denying the straight line to keep things interesting, aren't we? :)

You have nailed it very precisely, i am guilty as charged. Hahaha, absolutely call it upon ourselves. Always under-powered, but one day i will find the one build...

Well, naturally i wish we could find common ground, but that was honestly not quite what i had expected either. However i had to talk to him when came to my thread, to see what sort of arguments he had.

I agree with your whole post, and don't worry i'm not going to stop feedback or anything, but i just wanted to create some awareness, who knows what will happen?

I like your energy.

But you are also right, they shouldnt listen to me or others much. They should listen to themselves and the feedback that their intuition tells them is correct.

That's what I meant, I just wish you hadn't couched it in 'elitist' rhetoric.

Well, sometimes you have to sharpen your sword a little, give it a bit of edge.

And Charan, you've got me all wrong. I don't want a straight line to victory, I want a challenge. Right now, there's only one way to play PoE, and that's a ranged format in some way. But once you do that, there is no challenge anymore.

There is more than one way to conquer this game. If you seek the challenge, why is it you don't try to build a cool character, and then have to balance coolness vs power in order to build the ultimate character?

Well, i think we both know we play the game differently, i think you want more "content", in the sense that you want to play through something someone has set up for you to progress through in difficulty.

Are you telling me that you can only play ranged, that melee is a no go? How about it's time for you to build a melee right now, and dont look up anything. Build it yourself.

Crack, I am. I don't play to anyone's drummer. Like I said, the character I play the most is a Leap Slam/Sweep-Cleave Marauder with with a 2H sword or ax, no hammers or staves for me. I'm trying to make it work.

I admit, it's proving to be hard at the moment, but I will make it work, because I don't want to copy anyone else.
Well, then, haven't you found the challenge you were looking for?

Because at the moment, it seems insurmountable, I'm literally unable to get past Piety on Normal. And apparently, GGG has taken note of the difficulty Melee has and have some sort of plan for it.

So, I'm going to wait and see what these changes are, and then I'll provide more feedback if appropriate.
I think something must be amiss somehow :P

I'm not sure you should expect melee to suddenly turn into gg farmers when they get a skill or two, they still have to be careful not to die.

Never give in. You are reviving my hope in the ARPG genre.

Action RPG != MMO.

PoE is currently MMOlike with max 6 players in a party.

Extremly slow experience progression = Typical for MMO.
Long fighting with defensive Rare mobs = Typical for MMO.
Huge empty areas = Typical for MMO
Better loot for bigger parties = MMO
Week long Grindfestivals for Endgame = MMO
Nerfing vendor Receipes to keep or for other reasons broken economy alive = MMO

The only thing that's not really casual is the skill tree, but you could simplify it and then it's a typical casual MMO game.

PoE felt much more like a good ActionRPG in closed Beta but they screwed their plans many alpha members with MMO experience gave their positive feedback and now you got a broken game.

Why the hell am I for example 4-5 level under the area level if I play normally without grinding?

All this game needs are mobs that instantly rush and oneshot anything with ranged attack. Let's restore the balance >:]
