What nugiyen is doing right now is amazing

I work 3rd shift IT and if nothing breaks I just sit and watch movies on my ipod all night, does that mean you have no respect for me or that my job doesn't count? Most people are just putting in their hours and not really putting any effort into work, why would you lack respect for gamers making money.

What's up with people and their lousy definition of "true melee skills"? I like how someone claimed whirlwind is not melee when you have to go right on the target to hit them.

Sweep, cleave and leapslam are all definitely melee skills. Having a larger radius so you can kill more than one enemy does not suddenly make them ranged skills.

Erm, melee = fighting within hand to hand weapon range.

Ranged = damaging anything ouside of a hand to hand weapons normal reach.

That's essentially what melee and ranged are.

If I hit you with a dagger in my hand, its melee. If I throw that dagger at you its ranged. If I stab my dagger in the ground and bolts of lightning fly out of it and across the map, its ranged.

LOL he isn't using any of those abilities. He occasionally uses LS to escape a bad situation but he is elemental cleave.

So by your definition of a melee you can't AOE? You trolls make me laugh. Everything in this game has a range, yes even your auto-attack with a claw/dagger.

Not using AE skills with melee is like saying witches suck because auto attack wand only builds aren't very good.

Wow, I haven't watched Nugiyen yet (his name makes me think of the old Shadowrun game on Sega Genesis xD) but my two most recent "fun" builds (that ended up feeling stronger than I expected) were a dual wield elemental Templar using Cleave, & increased area passives + a dual wield elemental melee Witch also using increased area passives + static blows + cold snap. I had used the increased AoE support gem as a Duelist in the past and was impressed by how much better the skill felt and performed with the added range.

It's kinda funny to hear that that's apparently a similar build to what Nugiyen is doing. The elemental melee Witch I'm doing is particularly fun, because I start by cold snapping the whole pack, then rushing into slice and dice while they are (hopefully) frozen in place. It's really fun and the AoE passives benefit both skills. Of course she will end up being a bit squishier than my Templar, but since I'm planning to actually go to Templar start for even more increased area skills, I'll be picking up plenty of life (going to center life ring also) and tankiness.

I've been playing dual wielding Cleave characters since about 10 months ago when I got into Closed Beta and I heard over and over and over in Global chat that Cleave was utter shit and not worth using on any character, but meanwhile I would be slashing away at things and thinking "well... it doesn't seem that bad to me!!"

BTW, I think these are the weapon ranges for melee (some skills use base weapon range, others ignore it and have their own range):
1-Handed = 4
2-Handed = 5
Cleave/Sweep = around 20

So even WITHOUT buffing it's range, Cleave hits farther than a lot of people realize, and I've been saying this for a long time. It also has a nice wide arc, that seems to be about 180 degrees. That's a lot of coverage, considering there is no limit to the number of targets it can hit at a time.

So yeah, It's cool to see that Nugiyen is rocking Cleave and showing everyone that it can kick a lot more ass than people realize!

Have not read all the thread so if this is already brought up before my bad, the thing Nugiyen is doing is something that more than just him are doing. It's a group of streamers/friends that decided to make the one week race harder on them so they all decided to make melee self found characters for the race, and as said before the ele-cleave has been around and the added aoe thing is nothing new, just like you can sweep with added range and aoe the whole screen. The rules they had set up like no magic/ranged, melee only can be found here for those wandering why Nugiyen went this route.
