These boxes contain full cosmetic items, it's not like they are currency boxes with random tabs. I can kind of understand the frustratrion, but as long as they do similar content that is not behind a RNG box I don't think it matters that much.
It matters because it's only a matter of time until some upset moms find out their 13 year old just sank a credit card into the game because a 13yo doesn't have impulse control like most adults. Yet 13yo can play PoE with a parent's permission. Bad parenting in this hypothetical scenario? Yes. Is there a parental setting somewhere to disable store transactions, especially loot boxes?
Stuff like this just asks for government regulation and politicians from all over the world are starting to catch on. Especially when they the have a think of the children mindset.
For PoE's sake, I'd rather avoid it entirely and get rid of 'em. Or limit the game to 18+ and hope more countries don't label loot boxes as gambling.
PoE is addictive by design. Lootboxes now add even more real world money into a gambling mechanic that minors can buy and get hooked into. In my mind, PoE having loot boxes tarnishes the image of this company and product.

Hmmm, don't you think a 13y old with a CC is the problem here?

+1
there is NO need for them to have them and it only tarnishes their name. i thought GGG was better than this. i would love to have one of them contact me and give me a legitimate reason as to why they NEED loot boxes other than only to serve as a money grab to gullible people.

There's no probem if you can buy it all in the store.
If I have a copy extra points, I can possibly get some better gear on the cheap.

Municipalities are going to have a difficult time with this, simply because in order to make gambling illegal, it has to be defined. Once you define gambling, it becomes a legal definition applicable across the board.
This is the USA federal definition.
Gambling is accepting, recording, or registering bets, or carrying on a policy game or any other lottery, or playing any game of chance, for money or other thing of value. Title 18, U.S.C., Sec. 1955, makes it a federal crime or offense for anyone to conduct an 'illegal gambling business.'
If we use this definition then POE loot boxes are not "illegal" gambling. We would have to redefine the legal definition of gambling to force POE into compliance, or we would have to play very lose with the legal term value. (The estimated or appraised worth of any object or property, calculated in money). So what happens when Democratic governments play fast and lose with definitions? They are subject to legal challenges. (EA is mounting challenges over FIFA as we speak)
Most people don't even bother thinking about this, but i'll give you an example of gambling that is not illegal gambling because of the way the law is worded. In the US we have all seen it. Heck, I have even seen it when I took my niece and nephew to Disney world.
Carnival games. If you didn't look at them very closely, or were not familiar with the law, then these games fit all the legal criteria to be gambling, and prey on all the negative emotional responses everyone is up in arms against. They actually have cases of people loosing everything they own just to get a certain prize ($6000 giant banana you could buy on ebay for $35). They are not age restricted. They are seldom regulated. Anyone ever wonder why that is?
It's because they claim to be games of skill and not chance. That is only one way to get around the written law, and still use those evil psychological triggers to enrich yourself.
This is just an example as to why I think loot boxes or some form of them will be around for a very long time.

Yeah, stash tabs, as in, actual stash tabs. Not special ones. Everyone knows special tabs save you time, that's their entire purpose. Now can we please keep it on topic here? I'm reporting the next one who attacks me.
Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more.
'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league.
Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave.

Your admission that specifically premium tabs are P2W is good enough for me. Thank you.
