Got scammed for the first time. Sucks :(

Could differentiate them with a symbol for upgraded versions or more expensive version.
![]() ![]() It would be nice to do it also on prophecy items like kaom's way, Frostferno for example. ![]() Last edited by NeoG#6817 on Dec 19, 2018, 10:52:08 PM

" He had every opportunity to read the full item description before he hit accept. He saw the graphic/numbers (which I might add can EASILY be confused), did not read the item NAME, and hit accept. Call me a fool all you want, but I tend to read the item names before I hit accept. Best of luck to you in the real world. You're in for a rude awakening. And the white guys says, I'll have a Coke then.

" It takes a special kind of person to lay the boots in after someone has been ripped off. But hey, you at least got to tell us all how YOU are better than everyone that has ever been scammed. Kudos. Knowledge is power.

Maybe GGG can put an optional window beside the trade window. Something like..

" Very good idea! | |

That’s a good idea. That’s the sort of thing I mean when I say ‘revising the trading system’. Whilst my ideas may not be the right one, hashing them out in an open discussion usually results in ideas pooling together, modifying some, dropping others, then reaching a general consensus of what the best iteration could look like.
Those saying ‘the current trading system is fine’ I’d have to disagree with. The system works, but it’s not as good as it could be. Linking an item to PoE.trade in game would be an improvement. Revisiting the splash art for items with mere recolours is also a step forward. Unsure of all the development logistics involved, but GGG certainly aren’t a small indie dev anymore. They’ve made plenty of profit over the years of which they should always be investing back into the game. There’s no such thing as perfect, granted. But there is always room for improvement. Above all of this I accept responsibility for my mistake. I’ve traded hundreds, even thousands of times and I’ve never had any issues with players trying to purposely deceive and cheat me. Also the fact that I’d never dream of pulling such a dirty stunt on someone else, made me forget just how low some people can stoop. The idea of this discussion is to warn others, but also to perhaps make improvements to what’s there already to avoid players getting scammed in the future. Those saying ‘it’s part of life’ are right in some ways. But if we acknowledge it and don’t even attempt to prevent the issue for others then we’ve failed. If there was a busy road where there were frequent road accidents, would the local councils stand back and tell people ‘that’s just the way it is. People die in road accidents all over the world, it’s a part of life’?. No. I’m sure they’d look at the root cause. Does the speed limit need to come down? Does the road need stop signs or traffic lights?. Saying the trading system is fine as is it is like saying ‘those people shouldn’t have road accidents if they just pay attention’. Which is partly true, but hey, shit happens, people have a lapse in concentration. There should always be as preventative measures in place to stop it from happening in the first place. |

" As far as I am concerned the answer is NO: I want safe automated trading when you can search for item and buy it, without several steps in the middle, each prone to abuse. Simple fact of life: whenever there are gaps, there will be people eager to exploit them. TBH some discussion here feels like a weird nerd paradise 'survival of the fittest'. Attitudes like: "Poor bastard didn't realize the stuff he sold me was worth 4exa rather than 20c. I even convinced him to lower from 50c!" "What a looser! He didn't read every line of item before hitting accept and now he whines!" "If you do not invest time reading how to trade safely in POE, don't act surprised when you get scammed" are wrong IRL and in game. Same way mods IRL fight them (laws, police, media) I believe we may expect it from GGG here. And if they do not invest into system solutions ensuring safe interactions between playes (especially trading), why, yes - I expect them they invest time into manual investigations of scammers. It is THEIR neglect that enable scammers and POE growth will be hampered if scammers go unchecked |

You cannot be scammed trough the trade window.
You always have the last word/action with the accept button. The guy is an opportunist and a scumbag but not a scammer. OP is just someone who got alesson in life. Can we move on from this? There is athread like this every single week. Nobody cares that you suck at reading item names. I mena you can type the item name in the search on trade sites, you can read the name there, but you don't do it when you actually BUY the dam thing? COME ON? How can I even be sorry for you? "Never argue with an idiot. They will take you down to their level and beat you trough experience."

" That right there is the problem and shows more can be done to PREVENT the issue. I’ve learnt my lesson, but now I’m voicing my concern SO OTHERS DON’T FALL FOR THE SAME THING. SO THERE WON’T BE A THREAD LIKE THIS EVERY WEEK. SO NOBODY HAS TO HAVE THIS CONVERSATION AGAIN. Is that clear enough for you? If it was a one off fair enough. But you just said yourself it’s not, it’s a common occurance, which means there’s an underlaying problem. If you yourself agree that there isn’t a problem then no, people won’t move on, this topic will keep popping up again and again for the rest of eternity and you’ll have to keep wasting your time trying to tell people to ‘get over it, welcome to life kid’ instead of thinking ‘wait... why does this keep happening? Why can’t we have a system in place so I don’t have to keep repeating myself’. While it may not be a problem for you ‘cos you’re clearly supersmart and never make any mistakes, totally street smart sitting on a video game forum, it doesn’t mean it isn’t a problem when you look at the bigger picture. I’m not really bothered about it anymore, but I am more concerned it’ll happen to others. So threads like this will continue to crop up frequently until it’s solved at the root cause. |
