Actually, there are a lot of people to hold my hand. I have a wife and large family I've managed not to alienate, and because I am not an asshole, plenty of loving friends who would help me out if I ever needed it. You are the one putting the onus on the homeowner. You are the one creating the slippery slope of blaming the victim. You established your line is apparently 'if the door is open, your home is free game'.

But what about a window? An unlocked window? An unbraced sliding patio door that can be slipped open with a credit card? A cheap lock that can be punched out with a screwdriver in 15 seconds or less? Where does it stop being the homeowners fault, and start being the thieves?

Stop pretending you are some world weary veteran of terrible affairs and have some perspective in your life. There is no situation where its not the thieves fault. I've been there, I've kicked myself for leaving the window open and getting around 5 grand of shit stolen, but not once did insurance or the police try to pin the blame on me or give me shit.

It would take a real twisted person to defend the thief.

Thanks man. I'm actually doing quite well for myself as it is. And its not in Somalia. 65 acres with no neighbors and some of the best hunting in the state. All self made and no hand holding involved. Look me up in ten years when I'm retired and living free and clear off the interest I'm making.

As for me. I am 56. I have been retired now for 10 years. I live off of stock dividends and annuities. Quite comfortably. I think I did most things right. Luckily for me, I did not trade my humanity for any of the things I have. That is what I am most grateful for.
