Got scammed for the first time. Sucks :(
" I see this attitude more and more today. Its not my fault I can't afford my kids, I'll have the gov't hold my hand. Its not my fault I got a useless college degree and can't find a job, I'll just continue to live with mom and dad. Its not my fault I can't afford to put money away each week, I'll just wait for mom and dad to die and live off the inheritance. Its not my fault I didn't maintain my car, I'll just trade it in and roll the payments into something else. Its not my fault I didn't get title insurance on the land I bought then suddenly there's a $45,000 lien on my property. Its not my fault my mortgage didn't escrow my taxes properly and now I'm getting deed notices. Thief breaks into your house and robs you blind, ask your insurance company if they'll back you after knowing that your doors were unlocked. Probably won't end too well. And the white guys says, I'll have a Coke then.

You guys give the word "fault" this hyper-literal meaning like we are saying the scammer did nothing wrong. You need to understand that scams will always happen, so I don't care about calling the scammer a bad person, it's a waste of time. I focus only on the person that can prevent these things from happening to him.

" Are you serious? It's a bit hard to tell. If you forget something, then yes, it is your fault. If you hit accept at the wrong time in the tradewindow, then yes, it is your fault. Putting the blame on the victim won't stop anything, true, neither does putting the blame on someone else. You either learn from your mistakes or you don't. Nobody has the manpower to babysit every player and every action regarding trades, so it's everyone's own responsibility to check things carefully. |

Wow. From a thread about being scammed to endless berating of the poor bastard who got scammed and libertarian screeds. Just... the mind boggles. I had no idea that this forum had become 4chan /pol.
Knowledge is power.
Power corrupts. Stay stupid. |

" None of these things are even close to Equivalent. How about, A man promises an elderly retiree to manage her money wisely for her. He gives her a portfolio and references. She transfers her life savings to his company, and it turns out to be bogus. she looses everything. Totally her fault, stupid senior citizens. Oh well...lesson learned. homeless shelter is that way. |

Very sorry you got scammed. It reflects poorly on PoE and the community, very sad and true.
A word of support for GGG though. They have this rule about no naming and shaming because they can't tell if the naming and shaming is valid or not. If it was allowed it would probably be even worse with people attacking one another back and forth in an ever expanding battle. Very messy with no way to stop it or way to distinguish the good guys from the bad guys. The lesson is that especially when making expensive trades, double check and be very careful. Most of the community are really great people but not everyone is. Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

" You have to be the biggest damned fool to transfer your entire life savings to someone "with a good portfolio". Seniors are, what?, 70 years old? And after that long you still haven't figured out that there are people out there looking to snatch everything you have? You can setup a trust for as low as $1,500 depending on your assets. And the white guys says, I'll have a Coke then.

" Like I said, Homeless shelter that way stupid old lady. Hope they feed you. |

" I honestly see this becoming the norm for this generation of people. Typical person today can't see 5m into the future. The concept of saving and protecting your assets seems to be a thing of the past. Reading the small print, handing over your phone number at the checkout line, punching in your personal information to companies that sell that information off, etc. All that is normal nowadays. People live in the moment not worrying about the consequences of tomorrow because if something should happen to them, they can blame everyone but themselves for it. And the white guys says, I'll have a Coke then.

" As someone that had a thief break into my house through an open window... They covered it, no questions asked. Because that is what insurance is for. You made so many false equivalencies its painful. Nothing is so black and white as you try to make it out to be. Following the logic you were using, we could continue to the fun of: Thief breaks your window? Your fault, you didn't have shatterproof glass. Thief picks your lock? Your fault, you didn't have better locks. Thief uses a grinder to cut the doorknob off? Your fault you didn't have a security system inside the home to report it to the police. Thief cut the lines to your home keeping your system from working? Your fault you didn't hire a security guard to protect your home. See how stupid it sounds when someone does it to you? I honestly don't understand this community and its blame laying game. The OP openly acknowledged in his very first post that he got scammed, and he could have been more vigilant, and nearly the entire thread is people dumping on him and putting him down. Thats a hell of a community of scammer-defenders. Last edited by RoverZC#7859 on Dec 21, 2018, 2:01:53 PM
