Chris and his D3 Interview

" whatever youre doing, frostblades maybe, you dont need those claws, the build still functions without them, you can use any decent physical claw. You have decided its those claws or nothing, its in your head its not an aspect of the game the devs should balance around. " any buff to drops or crafting is a buff to trade, theres no way around it without account bound items. Whatever you do to make ssf more efficient makes trade more efficient by a greater margin. " if they have a built int rade system akin to poe.trade, the only thing that changes is that you open a game menu rather than alt tabbing to a web browser. All this other stuff like bots and rmt and drops and self found viability and whatever else youve been endlessly blabbering on about in this thread doesnt change. I presume he was presuming you were demanding changes to all this shit youve been whining about, apparently youve just been harping on endlessly about all this crap for the fun of it. " the game isnt balanced around the 0.1%, its balanced around you being lvl85 to 90 having much worse gear than they have and finding red maps very challenging, finding getting access to shaper and uber atziri extremely difficult and possibly unbeatable. Its designed around builds being a product of working within means, a struggle, not a sandbox make whatever you want whenever you want system. That bit where people have 6L amazing gear and faceroll farm the hardest content in the game all day, thats not what the game is designed to be, that is something beyond where the systems are pitched that the small % is capable of achieving, just because they can do it doesnt mean thats what the game is designed to be, doesnt mean you are entitled to play the game the way they do without earning it the way they did. Theyre not playing the design, theyre breaking it because they can. " well if thats the kind of game you want to play, a game with a casual, shallow loot and build system that struggles to hold an experienced heavy hour player for longer than a week then go play it mate. If you cant get your head around the idea that youre not entitled to everything in the game just for showing up then this isnt the game for you, theres 1000s of games out there designed to accommodate that mindset. Youve picked one of the only games that doesnt, and thats the reason its been here for 4 years and still going strong while D3 is a rotting corpse and countless other games have come and gone. Theres no need to ruin this game and make it just like all the other shallow easy come easy go games that cant hold up for more than 6 months without dissolving in their own lack of substance. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

Look, as soon as I find myself wearing Items (not only uniques but also RARES) that I found and or crafted myself, as soon as I dont feel like I need trade to acquire everything I need or want, as soon as I can just play the game without constantly checking poe.trade and poeninja, I will stop talking about this topic because then his so called "vision" has come true and I can just play the game and try different builds on my own.
But guess what, for that the drop rates would have to be ridiculous and at that point nothing really seems worth it anymore. In other words, this "vision" doesnt make sense in a game that is great mainly because of theorycrafting and build variety. We will always wear 99-100% traded gear and always trade for everything because 5 different builds per league (if you have another job or 3 in my case) take a lot of specific gear you cant just find lying around. Wake up, there is no way around trading and making it shitty on purpose doesnt actually improve the game at all. Its a shitty excuse and quite disappointing. |

Chris is just full of shit in that interview.
If he liked to play D3 economy, no wonder he spend most of hist time in RMAH, and not AH. This has to be said, if you wanted to make money you were in RMAH, if you needed gear you gone to AH. But the same is here in POE, it is exactly the same model but "without" the RMT (LoL). In d3 when AH was still part of the game, you hit lvl 70 (max prior to paragons) you gone into AH, buy gear within 10 minutes or so, continue to grind. If one was lucky you get an upgrade, if not you buy upgrade from AH. In poe, you hit maps, you go to poe.trade, buy gear within 30 min to an hour (due to the fact that the system does not work as intended, its not a part of the game, and its full of scammers and price fixers), continue to grind. If one is lucky you get an upgrade, if not you buy upgrade from poe.trade. The BIG difference between AH and poe.trade is that AH did work very well, it was full of bots buying underprice gear, but it did work. Poe.Trade is not working well, it is also full of bots buying underpriced gear, but also full of price fixers, stale offers, AFK offers, fake offers ect. D3 AH had a massive advantage over poe.trade when it comes to cheating is, that undercuting or fake lowball listing was never there, cause your item will be bought, while in POE these offers remain, as the person posting then just dont respond, go AFK or DND and just keeps them there YES I support the game, NO I don't agree with many GGG decisions
Lab still sucks balls. I miss Zana already. |

Maybe my luck is just really bad but given the drop rate of end-game gear I don't see how anyone doesn't trade for at least part of their gear set. I am not a conspiracy theorist but I think ggg literally, as an inside joke, programmed Path of Exile to drop gear that has nothing to do with the build you are currently running...kind of a reverse spin on d3s smart loot.
As for the current trade system it works but only because a third party trade site exists and obviously that could be better. I've lost control of the controls...

You guys aren't even able to decide what ruler to use in your dick measuring contest.

If auction house is destrying somebody game (we already have auction house, its poe.trade, just outside of game) then it means game economical system is broken. But thats not player fault, its game design fault and should be worked on in order to not collapse on itself.

" I dont think you quite realize what that means. "Adjusting the economy" would be "adjusting droprates to better accomodate a big number of players selling and buying things." And while i think that only a minority of players dont trade at all, i think players who like to play the market instead of playing the game fall on the other side of the bell curve. A big majority of players engage in the market sporadically. I think there is never going to be an auction house, because GGG fervently believes that too easy trading will lead to too much instant gratification (and thus loss of long-term goals and player retention), no matter if justified or not. But i am pretty sure there is going to be something. But they are never going to go out of their way to accomodate either minority, SSF or Traders at the cost of their main player group. |

" THE BIGGEST ONE! Okay, carry on. |
|
" Boy you sure a condescending, hateful fellow aren't you. Honestly, I had a few drinks before I came back posting and blabbered on about life stories and essays and crap. Shit happens. There is a difference. Its in the game, meaning people can be punished for things they are doing. Also, less people will be doing it. All the people using private indexers are gone. All the people using whoops are gone. All thats left are people who decide whether or not they want to use bots in place of those features. And, there will def. be less of those. Choices will have to be made whether you want to risk your accounts for such crap or you want to play normally. Right now you don't have to make a choice because anything you can use to abuse the economy is fair game because its outside the realm of GGG. So your argument is since its already happening they should just let it keep happening? So since people are getting murdered and robbed every day police and lawmakers shouldn't worry about it and let it keep happening because its pointless to do anything about it? Right now they cannot do a single thing about people abusing indexers/whoops/price fixing. Its outside of their game. Its akin to Blizzard not punishing D3 AH bot users. (They could, because it was inside their game; just like GGG can once the trade system is inside theirs). Its also hypocritical because they will punish an in-game botter who probably has LESS effect on the economy of this game than the mass of indexers, fixers, and scanning AH stuff does outside the game. Just like D3. Also, I find it ironic someone with 8000 posts who I've seen multiple times now talk down to people like they are trash tells me I'm whining. I really wonder if 70-80% of those posts have the same condescending, hateful tone to them. If so, I kind of feel sorry for you. |
