Chris and his D3 Interview
" You are of course completely correct - it still happened. And GGG knows that - they have said before (this year) that they view the current state of trade to be in crisis - it is currently too effective and easy. At this point, I wouldn't expect any trade improvements but things that make trading harder. I'm guessing they are currently testing the harder trade system (Xbox/Poe china trade system) and if that works, they will close down the public api, remove posting items to forum and ctrl+c copying items. |

I'd be OK with them making trade harder, as long as they increased the drop rates and make the game more accessible for people who choose to play in the main league, but don't care much for trading, or would rather trade as little as possible. The current drop rates don't support making trading harder. They'd just run a sizeable portion of the community away by doing that.
I'm aware that some people probably put 600hrs+ in per league, but I honestly don't know what keeps those people going unless they've got access to the best gear, and can make the best builds. The most I ever put into a league was a little over 200hrs, and that was the one league I played where I managed to get some decent drops. So the quality of drops I get directly correlates to the amount of time I'm willing to invest in a league. 3 of the 120hr+ leagues I played in, I never even saw an exalted orb drop. Nor a piece of equipment with an estimated value of 1ex+. So I've been forced to be a 'budget meta' type player. And those are the first things that GGG nerfs, is the budget meta. I almost feel like they're going out of their way to make this game as unfun as possible for players like me. So I'm always constantly at odds with 'balancing changes' completely gutting any shot I have at experiencing end game content, I'm not good at theorycrafting either. Not just in PoE, but in any game where theorycrafting is a thing. Half way through a league, I found out the build I used 1-2 leagues ago is shit now, but I had no insight whatsoever as to the new meta because I suck at theorycrafting, and there is a lack of solid builds at the start of a league. If you suck at trading and theorycrafting both, that's an impossible hurdle to overcome in PoE. Last edited by MrSmiley21#1051 on Oct 23, 2017, 7:00:59 PM

I don't see how he can make this statement with a straight face since people "play the AH" in PoE even better than they did in D3. Because, PoE.Trade has built-in AH bots that will scan the "AH" for you 24/7 and let you know when the items you want to buy/flip are available at the price you want them to be.
This entire game will boil down to you playing PoE.Trade more than the game itself if you plan on making any kind of currency or getting any kind of builds/items. I guess the only caveat is now with whoops and autoscans you can actually play PoE with 10-15 web pages open searching for the items yourself which does give you time to play, but thats exactly like running a d3 AH bot. Its comical really. Does Chris play his own game? Is he that delusional? Who actually finds half the stuff in this game to complete or do a build? Who even finds the right currency to use? This entire game runs off PoE.Trade. If it wasn't for PoE.Trade this game would be as dead D3. And thats a sad truth that their entire game is based around a 3rd party Auction House because they refuse to do something themselves. You dont make it in this game unless you are capable of using PoE.Trade. You just don't. I can't believe they actually think PoE is different. When he talks about how bad it was in D3 yet his game is the same if not worse, its hard to really take them seriously. I feel no different playing PoE.Trade than I did the AH D3 iteration except for the fact now I can run my own whoop bots without risk of penalty, and there is zero regulation for scammers/fixers/etc. That is the only difference in PoE and vanilla D3. That is why I find it hilarious when people say D3 AH ruined D3. No, D3 being a really shitty and bland game ruined D3; the AH just exacerabated the problems. If D3 AH ruined it, then why is PoE still kicking with a far more robust and better abuseable system in PoE.Trade. Also, I get annoyed listening to people feign ignorance around here. Most of you have played this game long enough to know how to use PoE.Trade to its fullest extent. I would venture to say most people against built-in systems are people who abuse the fact they can flip so easily. Abuse the fact they can run as many web-pages scanning for items as their computers will allow like mini-d3 AH bots 24/7 scanning items for them to flip. Abuse the fact they can list items with no intention of ever selling to whoop poor noobs out of their items once they are listed below the price they set. Abuse the fact they can get private indexers to even beat the whoopers on PoE.Trade for the super valuable flips. I find it hard to believe the people who have been here for years are that naive. They aren't. Especially when they like to pretend D3 AH was bad and PoE.Trade isn't an even worse iteration. It even has RMT notions if you know how and where to convert your currency. This is another reason people do not want the status quo changed. You know how much money people make every league? A lot if that is their goal, and its made incredibly easy by the complete Wild West version of PoE.Trade with zero regulations and consequences. If I was in it for money or wealth, I would NEVER want GGG to change anything. Its just too easy to make wealth and profit using the current system. Also, I've played this game off and on since closed beta. I have found, to my knowledge, one super item when it was a super item. A legacy BoR. In all my time playing thats the only huge item I found on my own. I think maybe a legacy Lightning Coil. But thats it. I've never found a shavs, an armor 6l(I found ONE 6l bow in Legacy), nothing. So if I need a 6l I have to trade for it. If I need a certain weapon, I had to trade for it. Old soul taker? Had to trade. So I find it funny he doesnt want people to trade for stuff yet I never found any of the good stuff. |

" I found a soul taker in beta. At the time it was a 25ex item. I used a farming gimmick that was nerfed. It's possible others figured out the gimmick and told GGG about it, but I didn't tell a soul about it. A few people did ask me why I was always in Lunaris 2, with a level 85 character. I told people my gear was too broke to run maps, and I never got killed in Lunaris 2. I think I had a whopping 2k ES, with lots of resists in the negatives because I geared for IIR and IIQ, and killed easy stuff for drops. Only 2 builds in the game at that time could realistically do that, a summoner build, or spark totems. I was the later. I realized how quick and easily you could farm cole in Lunaris 2 (at that time). And there was only a couple items that he couldn't drop, void battery being one of them. Everything else, kaoms, shavs, soul taker, etc was on his loot table. He had boss tier drops, and you could power grind him with high IIR and IIQ and grab the game's RNG by its neck and force it to give you drops. It's possible that there are similar farming gimmicks in the newer versions as well, and I honestly don't blame people for keeping their mouth shut about it. If I figure out a way to outsmart the system (like grab the RNG by its neck), I'm under no obligation to share my methods with anybody, for any reason. A lot of the D3 players would play and sell stuff on RMAH to pay the subs on their WoW accounts.

You can easily make good bank playing the game in PoE. Back in Diablo you either played the AH or your gear was shit. In PoE, you can actually play and make enough currency to buy whatever you need for your own build. Maybe 10% trade vs 90% playing. Wich is not a bad ratio at all imo.

The problem here is that people just can't accept PoE devs vision about trading. Personally, I'd like to see a better in game trading, BUT the devs already stated a thousand of times what they think about trading and why they won't put an AH in game through a lot of interviews in the past and now...
If my memory isn't failing there was a very good one when Brevik helped GGG in the chinese server project. So, maybe you don't agree with what they say but they have them reasons and I'm sure in one thing at least, now we have people that manipulates a hard market, if it was easier they could dominate it even more and since there will be more access to trade the drop rate of items will go down to hell.
