1)
It's unfair towards certain builds. Build a character with lots of EC, health regeneration and movement speed - and you're set. Build something else, and you will have a harder time. This reminds me of a game called "Two Worlds II", and "ok'ish" RPG, where you - as most RPG's - build your character and specialize in certain defenses and offenses. Yet, the last fight of the game is done by huge, stationary crossbow at a ledge. Needless to say, none of your choices matters in the end. Depending on aures for defense? Lab fucks you over. Depending on MoM? nope.
2)
People play soft core for a reason. They CHOOSE not to play hard core for several reasons. One of them is often that you can try again from where you died. The lab spits on that choice.
3)
Counting all parts of the lab; all 14(?) trials and all 4 labs, it becomes the largest themed part of the game. And when we think about what the lab is and what it does, it was bound to be controversial when it launched. Yet, they make it this big part of the game nonetheless. Logic?
4)
Video games are supposed to be fun. But A LOT of players find the lab the opposite of fun. Boring. Tedious. Idiotic. And the counter to this? Do this unfun, boring and tedious thing so many times, that it takes so little time that you don't think about how unfun, boring and tedious it is. Logic?
Most other things have been said: Precision, angle of view, repetition...
(Post script: I do not find the lab hard. I can do merciless lab in about 6 minutes and the uber lab almost as fast. The reason for me hating the lab has NOTHING to do with skills)

The reasons I as a super casual, off and n again, stumble through making my own build rather then read build forums, bargain hunter geared, light RPing, play the game for fun, dont take it too serious type hate the lab is
1: It inspires stupid ass threads like this.
2: People feel entitled to the power completing it gives.
3: Is too much the ruins and crypt themes making me yearn for the forests and beaches of wraeclast.
4: Makes me wonder wtf is wrong with people to think feeling the powerful darkside emotion of hate due to a video game they are choosing to play.
Seriously Ive beaten normal lab using a lvl 70+ 2 times now, thats it. I dont feel some big deal about it. I dont feel pressure to get it done on cruel or merc. I dont feel as if the power of ascension is a part of character progression but a bonus above and beyond it.
Do I think its the best part of the game? nope just another part that willkick my casual ass if I try to jump in to quickly.
FYI the 2nd time I beat it was helping a guy do it on a lowbie alt. I dont see anything wrong with them having my help because that is good karma for me.
Really this hate on and only everyone who hates on post here thread is about as pathetic as it gets and reeks of a certain kind of egocentric mentality I cant stand.
Its like a KKK rally where only those who are bigots come to fire each other up yelling about their ignorant hatred for something that is pointless to hate.

The lab is no different. Furthermore, those who do bother to voice pro lab ideas are less likely to start a thread approving of the lab, where disapproval are many. So is it so shocking that pro labbers/neutral labbers are willing to occasionally hijack anti lab threads off topic to voice their opinion when they don't have a strong platform of their own/want to break up the circle jerk?
of course threads like this are a echo chamber. and because of the one sided title, pro labyrinth posts automaticaly bolster the argument of the lab haters.
ergo, we shouldn't post here and leave them to themselves. i would make and push a pro lab thread if i had the time. but sadly i didn't.

First reason: the instance doesn't save if you die, crash, lose connection, or, the GGG servers go belly up (again). Have to start all over. The whole "HC experience for SC" is bs, I don't play SC for a HC experience.
The traps, god, fuck traps. I play PoE because it's an ARPG, I don't play it because it's a trap platformer. There are so many better options if I wanted a trap/platformer. With infinitely better controls than point and click movement. The game is designed around indirect movement control through point and click - putting in gameplay elements that are suited for direct movement control in a point and click indirect movement game is just bad game design. Can you imagine playing Mario Bros. with point and click controls?
Gating Ascendancy behind the Lab. If they just gave a proper aprg gameplay style alternative to the Lab for ascendancy, it would solve everything.

You could probably try your best to maintain a pro lab thread, but I doubt it would have nearly as many people as anti lab attempting to help keep the discussion going. It would involve a lot of self bumping just to stay relevant if by some chance anti lab people left the thread alone.
I personally post in these threads hoping to make some realize the tunnel-visioning of how they discuss the lab and that is pretty much it. Need something to do at work since a majority of it is just staring at an empty hallway (on good days). I may get a little too emotionally invested in it though because of the alternative activity...

You literally were just stating your opinion that I was hating on people whereas your hate on a game concept was justified because it could improve the game. Isn't it just as valid that the reason I criticize people that I want to improve people based on my opinion of the matter. I don't like it when you get groups of people echo-chambering themselves. Agreed with you bro about the xp loss and felt your pain too. I ever spend about 8 hours continuously straight doing labs just for the boots enchantment (6.67% to get) using prophecy twice enchanted to get the desired enchantment but get nothing that i wanted.
I can't imagine how much insane unrealistic grinding i must do to get the desired helmet enchantment ( 0.26 % chance btw) lol.
This is about the only response I didn't have a problem with.

the problem with making a "pro lab" thread is: there aren't many players who are happy to fail at a challenge. there are too few adults here.
it' always the same with kids (or kid like adults): deep inside their conciousness they know that open challenges is what keeps them interested in the game but because they're unable to blame themselves for their missing skills they just blame the game for the "wrong challenge".
