D2 classic should have schooled everyone in how to NOT be scammed.

The days where you could telekinesis items in town? "Hey bro I can't let you in my guild unless I know I can trust you.. Drop that item so I can be sure"

Poor 10 year old me was emotionally scarred when I lost my String Of Ears doing that :(

Then just all around ashamed when I got my account hacked trying to download maphack not a week after, haha.

I'm more shocked at the fact that you found someone selling something in trade chat for less than 10 exalts.

Well played.
Don't you need to mouse over before you can accept trade?

You need to have down syndrome or something else to accept the wrong item when you need to aim your cursor over it before you can go ahead...

And I don't care for this;

''sometimes the excitement of getting an item for an outrageous low price can cause excitement to get the best of us... so don't hate.''

If it excites you that much to trade virtual currency, well, I just made up a very funny picture of you in my head.

In guessing the Internet is where you get to act tough.
If you get this done to you more than once, you deserve it.
Came across a few scammers in the D2 days. It was so forced and obvious that I had to play along. One instance I remember was that 1 person either said he didn't trust the trade system or said it was broken. So we went to Act 2 to where the pub building was (corner is facing down). He explained that 1 person would drop the item while on the inside of the pub corner, while the other drops the item outside of the corner. Then we would see both items on the ground, and would have to long walk to the other item to pick it up. But of course, I was chosen to be on the inside where the outside person can just pick up the item if it was up against the corner. Needless to say, the LOLs were worth the time wasted with him.
lol I cant imagine who would actually get tricked by that

the same people who send money orders to Nigeria im assuming..

All this negativity... It's just not good karma.

People should look at scams in computer games as a good thing. It teaches people, especially the young, some very valuable lessions and the real world cost is almost non existent. You didn't loose your life savings, you didn't send some dude $1000.00 cause you just "won a lottery".... etc.

These types of things teach lessions that people need to learn, but with almost no consequences.

Back in D2, I had a scammer message me saying he was a buddy of mine and that he just got a great account on Ebay with a bunch of cool gear... It was a ... "Hey man guess who? "Frank", YEA MAN... I just got this cool new account... etc.

To further the ruse, he would give you a couple of mind tier items off of his account that you might want, but hey man, can I try your "insert top end item" out to see how it affects my skills? I lost a socketed personalized Occy that day, but gained far more in the lesson.

I learned that if I get taken in a game, it's well worth the lesson, cause what have I actually lost, some pixels? A bit of pride?

Should people be doing this? Hell no! But as long as it's happening, lets apply the lessons from the game to the real world, cause I would rather encounter some scumbag in game then in real life.

I think it teaches the young that the proper way to get ahead in a video game is to be a dishonest scumbag. And, they take the same attitude along with them into real life.

The only 'lessons learned' is to scam with the scammers.

Horrible thing for young people, imo.
