So while we can't quite opt in to specific events (unless they're reliably tied to specific sacrifices), it would still be nice to have some hint toward which event we received (such as flavor text /lore popup, or possibly even a distinct sound effect).

This. Most definitely and emphatically this. Darkshrine sounds like a really cool concept, but I would really like some way of figuring out what happened, rather than spending five weeks saying to myself, "Well, I think that was because of the Darkshrine..."

Let me put it this way: if we don't know when to give the Darkshrine the credit (or the blame), the reviews of the temporary league are very likely to suffer as a result. "Seemed like fun, but I couldn't really tell how much of it was the shrine and how much was just plain ol' RNG..."

What defines a 'good' rare though?

6 mods?
Mod combinations?
The tier of the mods?
Links?

There are a lot of player guesses but no staff response as far as I can see.

My guess is it will work something like vendor recipes. There will be a set of rules like:
- weapon with increased damage roll = all mobs deal more damage
- item with increased attack speed = all mobs gain turbo
- corrupted item = all items on ground have the effect of a vaal orb applied to them
- map = mobs are 10% more likely to drop maps
- 6 socket item = weapons and armor dropped from chests have an additional socket
- item with increased rarity = random unique will be added somewhere in the zone

Probably the actual rules will be something much harder to obtain good results than that, but you get the idea. There will also be some sort of priority list assigned so only the higher priority effects will occur.

One thing I'm wondering about -- and it's probably answered elsewhere, but I'm only on page 13 of what are currently 26 pages -- is whether the item will need to be identified in order to be darkshrined... and if not, if there's some kind of bonus for shrining an unidentified rare.

Sounds Nice :D

Don't always expect it to be fair.

I fully expect that one of the effects will set my life to 1 after reading that. xD

"Okay, let's sacrifice this rare, see what happens..."

You have received a new mod: Chaos Inoculation

"...Oh boy."

This is the greatest item sink idea EVER, hope it'll be implemented into the core game. But please, make them eat uniques and maybe gems too. idk, you sacrifice a Crown of Thorns and suddenly all mobs turn into Jesus or something

New Achievement:

Auto Pilate
Fully clear an area affected by Jesus Mobs.

Auras would be square instead of round?

Reminds me of the casinos in Dungeon Keeper 2. Whenever a creature hit the jackpot, everyone in the casino would start dancing to Disco Inferno. Good times.
