checked TOS for scamming
Fuck the VALUE of the item. Really, fuck it. It has nothing to do with this debate. No matter what the value of the item is, the ACTION is still the same.
But I see people don't give a rats ass about moral in here. It's sad. But then again, I'm sure they do - it's just too fun acting like an idiot. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

" I don't scam, and wouldn't scam. Do I think others should? Nah, from my moral perspective it is a dick move. Does everyone think like me? Nah. That's why I lock my doors when I leave, have an alarm on my car, and wear a chastity belt when I am getting drunk in town. We shouldn't blame the victim, but at the same time we cannot deny that there is personal responsibility involved in all of this. The wankers, trolls, scammers and thieves will always target the vulnerable. We have an imperative to become less vulnerable - it makes us stronger as people, as a community, and as a society as well as protecting us. Trust does not equal a bad thing, we just need to cultivate trust in the right people. Security is a good thing, we need to educate ourselves about potential threats. Knowledge is power, it strips power from those who would lie to us and cheat us. When we embrace the idea that we do not need to protect ourselves, educate ourselves, or learn from the experiences of others less fortunate, where 100% of the blame lies on the scammer ... we give in to becoming less than what we have the ability to achieve. We end up with a society where everyone is a victim and there is no personal responsibility. Scamming is (to my moral code) wrong, but being scammed is a sign that YOU have lessons to learn as well. == Officially Retired 27/02/2019 == Massive thanks to GGG for producing such a fun and engaging game, it has taken up faaaaaaar too much of my life over the last 5 years. " Let me explain it in that vile language of yours. Fuck moral, what matters is the intellect of the subject. If the victim is an idiot, they deserve it for being so naive. I applaud any smart and cunning person, even if they are decievers. But those self-righteous babysitters or undercover naive crybabies simply don't get it. It's disappointing. But then again - it's their problem, not mine. If you ask a stupid question, expect stupid answers. If you post a troll thread, expect troll replies. it's basically on ggg to specify whether we have a anarchic system ingame or if they want to prevent ingame scams.
imo they want to keep all sides happy by not providing the means to secure ingame services (which they are built upon like irl) but on the other hand state on several occasions, victims of scams should report to support. on one hand they remove certain spell effects because they can be used to grief players, on the other hand they leave the griefing option in bandit quests untouched. they removed the competitional aspect from loot distribution by introducing "permanent"(it's 5 minutes) loot but you will see no statement regarding selffound leagues. this list can go on forever, and until there is no word from the designers, useless moral discussions will replace a clear ingame direction. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

" No but that wasnt the point, someone with bad intentions finds someone whos is too trusting and too naive and easily tricked. Thats what it is about. This isnt about grabbing the purse from someones shoulders and running away, this is about someone being gullible enough to give someone else their purse and seeing them run and crying foul even though its their fault theyre so naive. But its all pointless arguing in here anyways because its not about real money. The damn items drop again or you spend a few orbs here and there and buy it with pixel money. All you lose is time, not real money and certainly nothing of any real value. |

Heh 20 pages arguing about obvious things:P
People that scam in a game because there are no consequences would scam in real life if they were allowed to freely do so. It is a matter of morals and cannot be separated between games and reality. Thieves would be thieves and they would say the exact same excuses to defend themselves in real life too. It IS kind of sad to see so many people defending scamming though. Says a lot about people today Anybody can become angry - that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way - that is not within everybody's power and is not easy. " Its also kind of sad that people still fall for the people who play victim even if they should know better and tell that so called victim to not trust strangers. And if you havent noticed, people do scam IRL as well, so, there. |

" Indeed. But hey, it's clearly more important to be "intelligent" enough to take advantage of stupid people than having moral. But I guess this is what we get when GGG more or less encourages behavior like this, by not having rules against it - or not doing anything about it. " Agreed. Stupid people should learn. And yes, there are scammers in real life. A lot of them are in jail. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile. Last edited by Phrazz#3529 on Jan 3, 2015, 6:43:37 AM

" I don't believe this. I've played thieves in RPGs. I've played Nazis in war games. Hell... I've played evil alien insects in Starcraft. Doesn't mean I adopt these choices in real life. You all confuse in life actions and beliefs with actions in game because you're have no imagination, I guess. This is a game. Actions within it are fair, so long as they don't break the rules. There is no rule against lying to people to get them to give you stuff. Repeatedly. |

" Lol, again this whole GGG encouraging it crap. Just give it a rest already. Point me to one single post from GGG that says, "please scam gullible people out of their pixel items they found in our game that is completely free to play". Also, a lot more criminals are actually not in prison but living among the rest of the population. What is GGG supposed to do? Give the guy another item with the same stats? Take the pixels from the guy who allegedly did the scamming? There is no case you can make as no one here pays for a damn thing, dont you understand that this is 2 things at once, playing victim vs actually being one, and this being a game with pixels you only invest time into and no real money and therefore no real value? GGG would ban people and follow something like this up with proper action if an effect was somehow stolen but that is not the case here is it? Since effects cant be stolen. We pay real money for effects, we find items in the game which is already F2P. So no, no matter how you turn and twist it, no one should play victim and GGG should not do anything as its not actual money on the line. Plain and simple. |
