Why Atziri's Acuity is actually balanced! (For those who don't know game balancing)

Actually that they're in the game isn't so much an issue as much as that GGG creates deliberately stupid mechanics to necessitate these items in the first place.

Was instant leech in D2 so gamebreaking? Last I checked, the best farming builds were caster builds anyway, aside from the highly-specialized smiter+lifetap builds for ubers, because that was the most economic way to solo uber trist.

The fact that reflect--one of the most inane, stupid, retarded, and just contradictory mechanics ever created--necessitates these gloves, is what's most irritating. The downside to a "glass cannon" build shouldn't be that "you kill yourself". It should be that it's easier for the stuff to kill you that you don't just mow down in 1 second--namely the important stuff--bosses, rare enemies, and other monsters that actually drop the items you play a loot-finder ARPG to get in the first place.

And on top of that, what's also irritating is that GGG deliberately gimps on-the-tree skills, such as Vaal Pact, which should probably be in the ranger area, seeing as how shadows, duelists, and rangers are the classes that thrive on leech, while marauders, templars, and witches are more along the lines of "large HP pool + regeneration" types.

Another example of a deliberately hamstrung skill: Chaos Inoculation. Would it have been gamebreaking if the skill instead reduced your HP to 20, instead of 1, so you could run blood magic auras without needing a Shavronne's?

The issue isn't so much that these gloves exist, so much as the fact that GGG depends on "edge case" and "fake" difficulty settings to make the game challenging. You can plow right ahead through a majority of the content, but occasionally, there'll be just the mob with just the proper settings for you to flip tables. Whether it's a mob that can one-shot you or chunk you through a combination of desync, super-hard-hitting attack (so many things in alluring abyss), or something that just counters your defenses (E.G. play an eva bow ranger against bubble shield guys + physical spells, or perpetus, w/e), it isn't a case of "hey, systematically defeat the boss in such a way" so much as "oh hey, you're screwed unless you're decked out in BiS gear".

It's funny, because despite having this genius method of gem customization + skill forest, GGG creates a game that looks amazing from a theorycrafting perspective, but is just beyond frustrating to actually play.

It is the least terrible option in terms of gloves, yes. Legacy Acuities would have been a complete travesty.

However, that's still overlooking the problems with Vaal Pact. If you want, you can separate the two entities and just look at how bad it is.

Agreed. However, GGG is restricting the supply of Acuities into the market. Therefore, the existing pairs of gloves are going to skyrocket in value as if they were legacy. There is no winning in this ever shifting meta.
The chance to Vaal +1% maximum resists on an amulet is less than 1/300.

If they nerfed Atrizri's acuity it would effect exactly 1% of the population that can even afford/do uber acuity.

So in general people are whining that millionaires live in giant mansions and because they have so much money they'll always make more money then them.

It's like with the Kaom's or Shav nerfs, like what did it really do with the entire overall game balance.

People are annoyed because people want the gloves. GGG made one announcement and now the gloves are twice as expensive and going to be increasing over time. So majority of people that can't afford gloves or are saving for gloves are pretty screwed.

Those with lots of gloves are now twice as rich after one announcement.

And you are struggling to see the issue?

Yep, that was post is very well written. I agree on all points, except the CI one. The concept of giving up ALL your life is quite cool. Besides, it would be really OP.

If they nerfed them in a way that affected all of them, people would flip shit. If they made legacy ones, people would flip shit. If they made it stupidly rare, people would somewhat flip shit. Precisely.

Excellent summary. :D

Yep. Yep. And....yep.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

By the time you'd transition into CI, if you were left with 20 HP, that'd essentially be "all your life", for all intents and purposes. Just that with Shavs, you more or less get an added bonus of "oh hey, it's CI on an item, except I now get 4 free auras!"

I mean imagine if instead of saying "chaos damage does not bypass energy shield", it just said "Chaos Inoculation" ala Hyrri's Ire with acrobatics, Kaom's roots with unwavering stance, etc.

I completely completely agree sir. Well written. GGG relies on the worst fakest mechanics to present challenge. One shot mechanics are so stupid in this kind of game. In a game that's supposed to present players with deep customization options, where your charecter planning and logic should reign supreme one shots completely nullify most build planning and instead test twitch skills. Acuity gloves are hardly op. The original vaal pact should never have been nerfed.

Atziri was not a good addition to this game. She alienates builds big time. She even had can't be shocked ignited or frozen.... why?

What you said about glass cannon really resonates for me as well reflect is so dumb as you said the down side to being a glass cannon is that you should have vulnerable defenses not that you wreck yourself. It's even more moronic that Ggg will not allow players to make a proper reflect build to use against monsters.
