As someone with a functioning phobia (thankfully not related to anything in the game), I find some of these responses extremely uncool. 'Grow a pair' is completely inappropriate.
We have had 'arachnophobia' threads on these boards for as long as I can remember, so it's clearly an issue not to be taken lightly. That said, if I had arachnophobia and I knew this game had a lot of spiders, I just wouldn't play it. I know that exposing yourself to the phobia's triggers is one of the 'cures' but I'm a total pussy so I just avoid known issues by and large. Strangely enough I'd still support GGG financially because it's a great game. I just wouldn't play it myself. I suppose a mtx to 'fix' this is possible but that to me might open a floodgate to other 'changes'. As someone mentioned, haemophobia would be REALLY problematic... If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

" You missed the point. With a button press you can kill all spiders here. With a button press the car would be smashed.Hence the instant. Even with fear people will typically react in a way to preserve themselves in some shape or form. If there is a bloody button i can assure you a very terrified person would be smashing the hell out of that button. That was my point. Even with phobias or irrational fears people still tend to react with that their instincts tell them to do. |

Also folks who have the phobia, just suggest to the devs to have a cosmetic item that allows spiders to become something different.
I am sure if you guys figure it out together they can come up with an idea. |

" I have actually done a psychology course on Anxiety and I am telling you, you are wrong. Anxiety attacks are hardwired into the most primal part of the human brain and bypass ALL reasoning, so the OP will feel the anxiety and respond with fight or fleight before he can think about anything. No matter how powerful he may be compared to the spider his anxiety response will be the same. Only way to learn to not fear the spider is through a controlled series of cognitive therapy sessions.
