I'm Unhappy I Put As Much Money As I Did In This Game

During Open Beta I was sorely tempted to contribute to the game. After release, I was so glad I didn't. Nothing in the last few patches has changed my mind one iota. If/When paid leagues happen I may get one IF I can specify self found only. If that happens I will invite the entire player base to join my league.
Crafting doesn't exist in POE. Gambling does...and the house always wins.

Velocireptile - I LOL'ed. Which made me fart. I wish the office were empty right now :(

Hardlicker - I had to push the dog out of the way so I could get to the sexy quilt.
I supported the game aswell with a lot of money, given in relative to my income.
And though I still play and got a lot of fun for the money i spent, it saddens my heart to see this game losing itself more and more in uncountable layers of RNG.

I really love the core of the game but there are a lot of design decissions I'm not able to understand.

Desync isn't my biggest complaint and I can life with it, though I would really like to see them improving the issue.

For me, the game works until I get to the point where I start to map and farm for gear.
The droprates as they are atm are just horrible, I played at least 1000h+ since the end of cb and though I found quite some exalted orbs, I never found a 6l or something like that.
And those exalts where never enough to buy the uniques I dreamt of.
Map bosses don't drop enough to justify their difficulty and I often lose interest in mapping with my chars because it is so unrewarding (given the fact I play solo).

I played many many different chars since I started and often quit in the mid 70s / beginning of the 80s because I get bored by the loot.

The best thing I ever found was a Void Battery shortly before this wand became a map only drop, and I have to say that imho the gating of endgame uniques via map only drops and the introduction of legacy uniques was a thing I really hated. It destroyed the last bit of hope to ever achieve a shav or kaoms by finding and not buying. I trade occasionally but not in such an amount that I have the funds to buy such a unique, nor am I willing to farm for it in that way. I also believe that if you are nerfing uniques because they are overpowered you have to be strikt about it, nerf every existing one or forget about it. I also got some legacy items though I would have appreciated if they would have wiped the whole parent leagues at release day, that would have been a consequent descission, and one I would have understood, because for me that is the normal way when a game transfers from beta to release.

Another thing that's out of my grasp is the argument that a self-found league would split the community. As it is right now, I don't understand how it is better to lose a lot of players who hate trading and badly want a sfl, than to just start a permanent sfl, and keep those people playing my game and maybe buying mtx. Don't get why this splitting is much worse than losing potential supporters.

I don't want to speak about crafting because it is non existant. As an example: I found a lot of great chests but always vendored them because it is absolutely stupid trying to 6l them. (I gathered quite a bunch of 5ls but at some point if you've played long enough you just want to have a 6l to improve your build)...
Same for uniques, find a good one, then you need to "craft sockets", then you need to link it, then you need to chrome it. It just is insane considering the time needed to make an item usable and an improvement for your build, without heavy trading.

The constant nerfs in the last time suck aswell imho.

I still play the game because I also think it has a lot of great ideas, and I really love the general feeling of it. And I always hope that someday will be the day I read the patchnotes and all those flaws will be gone. Well dreaming should be allowed :).

I think a lot of very good feedback was already given in this thread and though a lot of time passed since my last post, this thread made me want to write something about the issues I have with the game. And I think this is a good thing.

Thank you all for this very civilized discussion and expression of your feelings about the game.

Ps.: Sorry for mistakes, english is not my mother tongue.

This is a huge issue I have with this game...

Sporking was fun for solo play and it got nerfed to the point no one plays it.

Then Kripp shows the Chaos Degen bears. So rather than balancing them GGG just 100% nerfs them. After that BMs become popular and they got the same treatment.

GGG really needs to learn how to balance numbers rather than just nerfing them to the point it is pointless to use them.

Hey everyone,

There's some really great feedback in here, I've tried to talk to Carl about some of the concerns we've been having, but I had to shorten them and I only got 1 response. It wasn't too desirable to my liking though, personally. It doesn't look good for RNG elements to slow down.

To be fair Chris is the more suitable person to discuss the general RNG design with, as he's responsible for the core design of the game. To be even more fair both of them are massively busy people, for good reason. You might want to try pinging Chris' mail regardless... and he will care, just don't expect a lengthy response.

Yup, that's fair, I wish he had answered my follow up question though. I try to keep it short, because no one wants to read through walls of text. Well, at least people that have a lot going on haha. Would a PM be the best way to contact Chris do you think? I'd love to hear his thoughts on the current issues a lot of us are struggling with.

You did just fine with English, but I appreciate you coming in and sharing your thoughts. I'm glad you can continue to play this game. I'm personally not there with the way it's set-up, but I'm definitely willing and able when they address some of the issues I have. Hopefully they address these issues, a lot of us just want to have fun with the game, with less or no downtime, it shouldn't be as forced as it is right now.

Attempting to PM will direct you to his lovely "contact Chris" page :) You can mail him directly using the e-mail provided on that address.

I'd wager a guess that he's read this thread -- at least the original post -- by now, so identifying yourself might be helpful.
Have you made a cool build using The Coming Calamity? Let me know!
I don't have forum titles. I don't have pets. I don't have a lot of other things.

What I do have, is an account for myself, and an account for my son. We have ~50 stash tabs between us, a few armor skin transfers, and a few spell effect mxt's. All told, I've spent about $150 bucks on the game for the two of us to play.

And I echo the sentiments of those who have spent more, and feel unhappy. My son, has all but stopped playing. He did so right around launch. He just got frustrated with the way things were working for his playstyle.

And I'm getting to that point. Now, I will say, that some of my unhappiness, is based on aRPG style as a whole, and not just POE.

RNG:
There is far too much RNG for me to feel like the game can be played 100% self found.

The very fact that these gloves can exist is a failing of a system IMO. These gloves are ilvl60+ Wool Gloves. I'm fairly confident that they were 66+, from a boss in a map, but I don't remember. I've held onto them for so long, staring at them, hating them. Why, I lost out on a possible upgrade to my character, so that the very base model of ES gloves could drop from my boss, is just beyond me. If we are going to see caps on things like Monster must be level X to see a Koam's, Shav's, Voltaxic, etc... There should be a cap on things like this. level 60+ monsters should not be dropping crap that you pick up in the very first zone of the game. Especially not as a rare.

I've heard it before "But what about the uniques!?!?!?!?!?!?" FIne. Let them drop them as uniques. I don't care. But, there is no joy, no fullfillment, from looting a level 1 pair of rare ES gloves from a Merciless Boss. That's crap.

But, the RNG doesn't just stop at loot drops. It's in the "crafting" system. Which, is not a crafting system. Vendor Recipes, is as close to crafting as this gets. Everything else, is a giant slot machine, that you put various values of currency into, spin the handle, and hope that you don't screw up.

I recently posted about an ilvl 77 Vaal Regalia that I spent 2k Fusings trying to 6L, before I vendored it, and deleted the character. That's not fun. That wasn't fun. I didn't vendor something I spent time to get, because I was having fun. I was pissed. ANd the only way I was going to stop being pissed, was to get rid of the item, and the character. Vendoring + Delete was the (albeit extreme) way to deal with stopping myself from doing something that wasn't fun.

And then, If I would have got the thing 6L'd? Well.... Then I get to spend lord knows how many alts to get rolls, and then eternal, and regal, and nope, that didn't work, restore the imprint, and re-eternal, and regal, and on and on and on and on and on.

That isn't fun. The shear amount of RNG invovled in even getting a USABLE piece, like.....

That's not a bad piece. It's not amazing though. It's tri-resist, but not top tier rolls. It's got "some" bonus ES to it, but certainly not "a lot". It's a very mediocre to "ok" piece. But the RNG? Let's not talk about how hard I tried to make something good out of it, only to get mediocrity.

The Patch 1.1 Passive skill tree.
This is my personal opinion. It's the worst skill tree that's been pushed since I started playing the game. It highlights several problems.

1.) There is no "value system" in determining what you get for a passive point. Or, conversely, if there is a value system, the values are woefully skewed, at least from this side of the looking glass. You can easily verify this, by taking a look at the marauder, scion, and ranger starting area. You get, vastly differing values from a single passive point, in regards to life, based solely on where you are.

The marauder gets 6% HP, and 6% armor.
The Scion is offered, just 6% HP,
The Ranger, offered 6% Eva, and just 4% Health.

This is exacerbated further when you look at other classes starting areas, and their life offerings.

2.) There is a problem with balance between weapon choices. When the decision was announced that there was going to be a rework in the passives in the marauder area, and the area below them, next to duelist, I thought that it was going to be to address some of the imbalances regarding weapon specializations. In Domination, Swords ruled the roost in terms of quality passives to invest, as well as number. Maces, were less represented, but had solid nodes, due to the the inclusion of a cluster that included life, as well as 2 clusters that included armor. While there were less nodes, they were, from a DPS / Survivability standpoint, a good 2nd choice. Axes, were third and Staves... WEll... I don't think much of the staff clusters to put it politely.

I thought, that the rework of the lower area, would be to balance them out. Unfortunately, what we have seen, is that the pecking order, has been further defined. Swords, rule the roost. They have tons of good, quality nodes, ranging from the Marauder area, all the way over to the Shadow area. Swords are every where, and the nodes, are generally high quality.

The one node, that offered Mace + Life is gone, kicked to the curb, in favor of a dual mace / staff cluster, which, while offering superior damage, offers nothing in terms of the life / damage nodes. Axes, got a slight buff, as they were integrated with Swords nodes, in a spot or two, meaning that the pecking order is now,

Swords - by a large, clear margin
Axes
Maces
Staves.

3.) The Scion area nerf. While it's understandable that something needed to be done to the scion area, gutting it's passive quality just didn't cut it, on top of reducing nodes. While a case can be made that they are still "the best" clusters, it comes in terms of density, not quality.

4.) Elemental Weapon Damage builds. It's a pet peeve of mine, probably because my son stopped playing the game. If you wanted to play "Elemental Melee" you really have a dearth of options. There are woefully few nodes that are weapon elemental damage nodes. There are 2 spots in the tree that offer elemental damage as a blanket effect, but it's still hard to craft a tree for someone who wanted to play an ele weapon build, and have a good time in doing so.

5.) Iron Reflexes + Grace. We saw, in terms of the 1 week league, that this was, an incredibly popular combination. My problem with this combination, is that in general terms, one keystone, makes another defensive stat better at being armor, than armor is at being armor.

Now, I'm not saying armor is amazing. Because when you need it most, it still doesn't matter unless you have the granite to couple with it. But, when you look at CI, and Acrobatics, the two nodes that are most similar in function to IR, the other two both have tangible side effects of the choice. This is not the case with Iron Reflexes. There is no tangible side effect to it. You can't evade enemy attacks, is not a tangible side effect comapred on the options that are presented to you by taking the keystone.

Patch 1.1 - Corrupted areas.
My first encounter with a corrupted area post 1.1 was in Ambush League, right after killing Fire Fury. I was, to quote a famous bad guy from another MMO style game, "Not Prepared". There are legitimate balance issues present within these zones. While I understand that they should be more difficult than the zone they spawn in, the level of difficulty of these bosses does not scale proportionately with level, and zone difficulty.

Patch 1.1 - Vaal Gems
They just... Well... the implementation is just lackluster. I have toyed around with several of them that I have found, trying to figure out what is, and isn't interesting. Vaal Double Strike? Pretty cool. Vaal Molten Shell? Again, pretty cool. Vaal Ground Slam? Meh. Vaal Lightning Warp? No. They are just so random, that they boggle the mind on if they are good or not.

I am the Guild Leader of <Lurkers> I have been running the POE related news on our guild site since release of the game, and I just can't bring myself to do a news post about the patch. It's my perception of the changes that is keeping me from it. Normally, I link the patch notes, give some commentary, talk about the cool features, talk about the uniques.

But I just can't bring myself to do it with 1.1 The patch has been, a monumental letdown to me, as an individual. While I think that Ambush is a very interesting idea, I have no cool "OMG that loot box was amazing!" stories. I have no "oh man! that was an epic corrupted area!" story. I have no "This change to the passive tree made sense" commentary to give.

And it's hurting my desire to continue to play the game. I dealt with the RNG of a lot of thins in game, and kept buying stash tabs, because there were definitely parts of the game that I found truly enjoyable. I was enjoying the prospect of having my first level 90 character. I was enjoying the prospect of running higher level maps. I was enjoying the prospect of messing around in the new league. But all of that, has taken a back seat, to the patch, and the changes that have accompanied it, that have made the game less enjoyable for me.

I'm glad that I didn't purchase any supporter packs at this point. I'm glad that I didn't end up with tangible merchandise, or a soundtrack. Because at this point, I'm not sure if I'm going to continue for much longer. The game has just become less enjoyable since the patch, and I'm just not sure if that lack of enjoyment, coupled with the RNG that I already didn't care for, are overshadowed by the fun that I "can" have in game.

Even though I don't agree with all of it, that is immaculately worded feedback. You may be better served creating its own thread, or consider the PM or e-mail route yourself.

If you're interested in knowing about the value system you refer to, have a look at this old dev diary (under "Effectiveness").
Have you made a cool build using The Coming Calamity? Let me know!

I had thought about making my own thread, or PMing / Emailing about it, but I didn't want to deal with another thread, where people would walk around talking about scrubcore, and how I'm a terrible player for thinking the way that I do, or cluttering up the board with yet another thread about how the game sucks.

I figured I would keep my unhappiness, confined to a current thread about unhappiness. If they read it, they read it. I figure it has about as much of a chance as being read here, as it would if I PM'd / emailed / or made my own thread. (I admin a forum with ~800 users, I know how crammed my Inbox is from that, I couldn't imagine looking at their inbox or email account for a game like this)

And I appreciate you being able to say that you don't agree with all of it, without turning this into some internet flamefest. I think that the hardest thing to do in a game, is please people. Because so many people have so many different perspectives, and lenses on how they view things. I just wish that from my perspective the game felt more satisfying than 1.1 feels right now.

Its refreshing to see a critical post that is constructive and not taken over by troll posts and people saying "lrn 2 play noob".

I agree with some of these points, RNG can be very frustrating with the current drop rates. I have an estimated 600+h of time invested into this game. It has netted me only 2 exalted orbs and out of the hundreds of crap uniques i have found, only alpha's howl and rainbow strides were worth anything. I have stopped trying to craft after failing to 5L an armor with 200 fusings, and trying to roll yellows is just insulting.

The good news is that GGG listens to its players, so maybe we will see some changes to address this. Path always has been and always will be for hardcore gamers, but maybe we can get some concessions for the average player who has to go to work and has a life outside of Wraeclast.

Just keep making constructive posts, i keep hoping to see some improvements to drop rates, we will see. I love this game, but it is something i have to put down and come back to often to keep from getting frustrated since the difficulty of map bosses and other end game content does not feel balanced with the rewards from doing that content.

I've given up from complaining about the drop rates in this game. Item drops used to be bad, but currency drop rates right now are insane. In a negative sense.

I've gotten through Normal and Cruel Invasion and I got 2 vaal orb drops and 1 chaos. And vaal orbs were supposed to be something new, super cool. Haven't used one so far. And what is worst, GGG seems to be ok with this, thinking that chesbox and invading bosses make up for the removal of IIQ.

This is why, after spending god knows how much money on this game, I will not purchase any new supporter pack nor points. The game is great, but unrewarding as hell.

No mod action. Business as usual.
