deleted thread - a clarification

Personally: I would love to see a better forum system because there simply isn't really enough volume of posts to warrant having a million sub-sections and whenever I am saying something about the game - irregardless of what way I say it (nice or not) it just gets moved lickity split to sub sections of the forums to die.

This is a pet peeve of mine. A huge piss off.

The thing is that you may not like what I'm saying - but I'm not being hateful - and I'm also FAIR about what I have to say meaning that I'll give props where they are due. I'm an adult and we can hold conversations like an adult...

For me: you may as well be deleting my thread when you move it to nowhere land to die.

I've asked at least 3 times for specific posting guidelines: what constitutes "general forum" - what constitutes "suggestion" ... or "off topic" - what is an accepted "general forum" thread? I've asked for GGG help because as a massive piss off when I post a thread the last thing I want to have happen is that thread moved out of general forums. I posted it here for a reason... a purpose. To generate general discussion about path of exile.

Until the time that I see some type of guidelines - this is all just a sham. It's like watching Dance Skating at the Olympics. It's all completely subjective. There's no real rules. No guidelines. No clarification as to what GGG finds as an acceptable general discussion.

On the same hand I HATE league of legends posting because people just bury your threads. I guarantee you multiple accounts and scripts just to bury what people have to say. There has to be a better system than what is currently happening - and/or a voting system.

Why not just let the chips land where they fall? Either there's interest in the thread or there isn't. Based on what people post in those threads and participate in them accordingly.
Best case scenario for that thread that got deleted would be a rhys like trollish reply to all the not that intelligent points raised within, instead of deleting or simply locking it.

This is a bit difficult though, especially for Support members who aren't necessarily privy to what's coming in the pipeline. And when a thread basically insults the devs' work ethic because they haven't figured out solutions to various objectively difficult to solve issues, well...

The way I see it, it's the easily excitable people - like you - who always complain about threads being moved to sub-sections of the forum, to presumably "die" there. But the likes of you never post there. You seem to only care about General, where the action is.

But the thing is, if you and like-minded people always keep away from places like Feedback, Suggestions, Gameplay Discussion, etc. - the only people being there are the sensible ones, the ones who consider the pros and cons before they write something, who think about what and how they write it. So no wonder it's dead there.

So - if you want your threads not to die, if you want to generate lots of clicks and posts even in places that are not General, why not consider showing presence elsewhere?

I don't really understand the problem with the sub-sections. It seems pretty simple:

- Suggestions: You want GGG to do something? Here's the place.

- Feedback: You want to comment on a feature or the whole game (think: review)? Here's the place.

If you really are desperate for your opinion thread to stay in General (although it technically is feedback), you can do this: Write down whatever is on your mind. Then try to find some counter arguments and write them down, try to counter them. And if that is not enough, ask questions.

Example

Feedback: If GGG does not do [...] PoE will be dead in 6 months.
General: I think if GGG does not do [...] PoE will be dead in 6 months. Some people say that [...]. But I think that [...]. What do you think?

I haven't read all the posts in this thread, nor have I formed an opinion on the deleted topic.

I just wanted to say I've been a forum moderator/admin, and I know that if you care about the job, it's hard and thankless. You're always going to get someone upset: always.

It's not a job I'd want ever again.
And may the mods be ever in your favor.
Three multi pages posts for/from one annoying guy REALLY?

All in attempt to describe to us how he doesn't like the game, REALLY?

And you guys stick like flies to sh*t trying to intellectualize what is "right" or "called for" or was it human error or not.

Whole situation is ridiculous to absurdity.

I don't care for OPs opinion. Yes, you can complain all you like just don't be an asshole about it. He failed in that simple first rule.

My house. My music, My rules. stands on my doormat. Guess what, PoE forums are GGGs house. They pay the bills. Their house, their rules. You disapprove? Fine, GTFO. Not that you payed anything. Why the fuck you think you have THE RIGHT to complain or demand anything. If they put out free game with ascii graphic you should be fucking grateful. Because it's free. Because you haven't contributed ZERO percent. People today are presumptuous, especially the youth. What the fuck you think world owes you?

OP says he's a developer too? OMFG, please OP, link us your fine achievements, let me tell you thing or two about them.

Nobody says you have to like the game and nobody holds you gun to your head to play it. No game is perfect. Each has good and bad sides. Find your balance. For each moment of frustration poe gives me it gives me 5 more of joy. Fair deal I say. If relationship doesn't work for you, fine, get out, find one you do like.

I would like to preface this with this probably wont be a terribly popular opinion.

I have long believed that when it comes to the internet, and discussions on the internet, the only "Right" actions are the ones taken by the people who own and operate the place the discussions are going down. Its their servers, they can do whatever the hell they want and don't have to justify a damn thing.

Now will this endear them to the entire playerbase? No, probably not, but it will to some. It will also alienate some players. However, that is already happening as it is.

There is a reason why the acronym BOFH exists.

There isn't much to discuss here. Locking topics just has little benefits(and many cons) so almost all topics should be locked if offensive.

Topics that should be deleted include: advertisements, pornographic content, racially fueled hate topic. That's it.

You have missed the point. Not surprising, given your myopic, egotistical post history.

You mean "consistency" crap you so elaborately and unnecessarily propagate? Who cares? If player can have bad day why could not moderator? You come to my house and piss in my lemonade but demand "equal rights" ? LOL. What was your final conclusion your excellency biggest donator and ex mod? That mods are only humans? You don't say?? That this is no way to establish healthy community environment, deleting posts?

Gimme a break :)

If anything mods here are being too lenient. And I've played many games and seen many communities.

I just wanted to point out that when Jonathan made his post following the 2 hour downtime, and the two times Rhys did "Questions Answered" threads for Inexium, the forum was pretty sedate for the next few days in both cases, and everyone loves Russell.

I'm sure that the devs are extremely busy getting 1.1 out, but I think when they make their presences known around here, it really helps with keeping things to a simmer instead of a boil. Just something to think about.

Russell is a bunch of lols
Rhys is unbelievable that's certain, he even discussed with me this:

People may not realise what it means when I, of all the forum users, question Support. Yes, this is GGG's house and it is their rules. I enforced said rules for the better part of a year.

But this isn't about a rule being enforced. It's about a vague guideline being abused. If jk's thread warranted deletion, so do several others Support have only moderated, not even locked, in recent times.

What I was getting at is the guidelines are for the users, not the admins. I feel they should be free to do whatever the hell they want. I agree that lots of shitty threads slip through the cracks, and if it were left to me moderation here would be much more heavy handed.
