Why do some players lose their passion for PoE ?
" So true. For some builds desync is even more trouble than for others, for my vaal pact life build, desync is almost an automatic death. Lost 50% XP on my lvl 81 in one week cause of desync. 177 Last edited by toyotatundra#0800 on Jan 11, 2014, 12:50:27 AM

It's not one thing that leads to people losing their enthusiasm. It's several things all put together.
* Orb drops = shit. Never saw an eternal in many, many months of playing. They created the orb system for people to use currency for both trading and crafting, but everyone only uses it for trading. Low drop rates lead to hoarding, awful crafting leads to hoarding and people using orbs as gold. * Item drops = number of items is ok, but the quality is lacking. You dont get a Soul Taker by dropping it, you get a Soul Taker by vendoring thousands of trash rares and uniques, then trading for Soul Taker. And while you cant have great items drop all the time, and I also understand that once you already have decent items, upgrades will be very few and far between and hard to drop and I'm ok with all that... but you cant troll players by having bosses on merciless drop low-level items and uniques like Araku Tiki and Karui Ward all the time. There has to be some kind of balance here. * Crafting = gambling. It's 100% luck (RNG) based. You can burn through orbs it took you months to save up just trying to craft one item and you still wont get what you want. Crafting in PoE is broken and it's a "rage-quit generator", as I like to call it. Crafting and currency-drop rates are major issues. * How about XP? Oh no, you cant play for XP either, since it's soooo hard to level up, to the point of being pointless. XP penalty depending on area level, 10% XP loss on death, all designed for no other reason but to make your life more miserable. * Trading. For a game completely centered around trading, it uses an archaic system of trade chat that's impossible to follow, or even worse, having to ALT+TAB to a 3rd party website to buy/sell anything. For a player that doesnt enjoy trading, PoE is best avoided. In PoE, you are forced to trade. GGG have put up too many artificial obstacles in players way. I play 5 builds (and want to do few more) and I have NO way of leveling them to where I want, it would take me the rest of my life to do that. I have NO way of gearing them the way I want to, it would take me the rest of my life to do that. What I believe is that dedicated players will grind, they will put in the time and effort, but you have to give them something in return. PoE gives very, very little once you reach late-game. 177 Last edited by toyotatundra#0800 on Jan 11, 2014, 1:11:51 AM

I've been playing PoE for almost a year now, and yes, my passion is all but gone.
It's not endgame gating. It's not RNG or drop rates. It's not crafting. It's not even desync. The things that put me off are: 1) Higher level characters being destroyed by nerfs. Now I know never to build around gems/items less than 3 months old, because GGG has a high chance to nerf your build (more RNG to the game, chance to roll nerf). 1a) Why share you build, write a guide, etc, when all that leads to is good builds becoming popular, and subsequently nerfed. This is a terrible thing for GGG to do, but is becoming the rule, rather than the exception. 2) Terribly coded effects that drop fps. Weather effects etc, known problem for ages. But let's add more, even buggier effects, before fixing existing ones. 2a) Previosly fixed issues (mostly graphical) returning a few patches later, after having already been dealt with. 3) A method of listening to, and and catering to, the squeakiest wheels, not those wheels that are actually broken. This never used to be an issue for me, back in beta GGG seemed to have a much better filter than they do now. Case and point: Charan gives a lot of feedback, and seems to have the devs paying close attention to his every word. But that guy is a total scrub at PoE (no judgement on his character, just his PoE ability). PoE still has enough redeeming features to keep me playing, but not at the same capacity that I used to. Many lewt. Much desync. Such rewarding. Wow. According to forum mods "sandwich" is considered an offensive word. Who knew? Last edited by Robert_Paulson#5467 on Jan 11, 2014, 1:26:26 AM

I know that a lot of people have said that D2's pvp mentality kept a lot of players going for so long...

" +1 I've been burned (as have many others) and it wasnt fun losing all that work that went into creating the build. One day just nerfed, poof.. build gone.. 177

" Implement the exact same PvP into PoE and all you will see is bitching and moaning everywhere. I guarantee it (lol George Zimmer). GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

" I lost 2/3 of my CoC builds (thankfully my lvl84 one is still okay). And I had just bought new gear/20% gems for a character that got killed by the patch. Fuck you GGG. Many lewt.
Much desync. Such rewarding. Wow. According to forum mods "sandwich" is considered an offensive word. Who knew? |

there just arent any cool items..
at least d2 had runewords you could mess around with; not to mention the chance at a great drop whereever you were playing. PoE, not so much...want X item? DO X level map, when maps barely drop. Boring uniques, not many builds-sure plenty of low level builds, but very very very few builds that can handle 78 maps. Plenty of problems, I like the gameplay so i keep trudging along. A lot of players stop playing it for 3 simple reasons - because they play solo, because some of them are casual and do not have all day, and lastly because fusing.
I just feel bad for people that do not trade or group and want to get a 6 link. Especially if rng is not on their side and they need like 3k+ fuses. |
