I haven't stopped and I'm not planning to. PoE is the best game out there at the moment and extremely rewarding. Just don't want GGG to cave in to casuals and their ridiculous demands to increase droprates or some nonsense like that. Other than that, I constantly keep making new characters as it's so addicting to come up with new builds.

You must be playing a very different game than I am.
I agree that PoE is the best ARPG out there at the moment, but the idea that it is extremely rewarding is nonsense. The idea that this is a "casual vs hardcore" thing is also nonsense.

My understanding of his quote is that it is extremely rewarding with regard to his personal satisfaction from playing it, not from the actual drops. There are other things to enjoy in ARPGs apart from lewt, believe it or not (an example he gave was different build variety etc).

There are people that "invest" in children (they say that)
as if children are some kind of financial instrument like market shares.
Soon they'll demand ROI quotes from different game publishers.

I got tired of desync. Desync in this game is HORRIBLE. I tried to ignore it for the months and months I've played this, but it drove me insane.

I tend to take long breaks. This time is due to extremely bad rng that ate up dozens of orbs and dying to desync.
I'll pop back in of course since I view PoE as the best action-rpg available to date. I just don't like teleporting to strange places/rubber-banding around the screen with a 57mbs down and 11mbs up connection using an Ethernet cable.
Skill tree, why you feel so good? (Also, loot affects build variety directly.)

It might be the hipster thing to do to bash on posts like PathofMeh's, I typically would be right there too, but I'm starting to see only poor design choices drown out the good in my play anymore. I've had to reroll characters that were only in their 20's just to feign some kind of interest and to keep playing. I mostly play now in hopes GGG will literally wise up and fix their mistakes but I understand now that isn't fair to myself or GGG so I think I too must pack my bags and go back to what in my opinion is the high water mark for arpgs, TQIT.
There was a dream that was PoE and when it was but a whisper it had mountains of hope and aspirations but not all who dream get to build Rome.
Do yourself a favor and check out Grim Dawn. Its the old TQIT peeps and it one helluva good alpha. 30 bucks well spent.

I do not consider maps (e.g. the ability to keep playing a character) the same thing as loot.
I actually don't have any issues with the loot system in PoE. Most of the people whining about the loot system are people who think they are entitled to easy access to a Kaoms/Shavs/6L/etc, and that's just BS. Crafting is broken due to piss-poor orb drop rates but the loot system is actually very good IMO.
It is the map system that makes the game unrewarding to keep playing. And sorry, but grinding out levels 1-50 across 20 different characters to try builds out is not exactly rewarding either...
