Why have you stopped playing?

I really don't want another game where your progress is measured by whether you have reached cap or not. To me, not being able to feasibly attain the level cap is a feature.

I would prefer to remove the cap entirely, thereby making it a true horizon as you said. Before people stampede in to say "But Antnee, then we will just have level 150 characters stomping around", think about this for a minute. Past level 100, one death would set you back months. Past 105? maybe an entire year!

It would be an interesting to see whether this alleviates the anxiety to reach cap. Maybe, just maybe, people would play the game as intended, and reroll if they didn't feel like they were failing.

Good post. As to the contents of it: it's not just the concept of "perfection", as you put it, that's unattainable, what also occurs is the outright denial to continued progression with your character; once you get to a certain point (circa 85), the game makes it so it's even harder and harder to improve. Mathematically speaking, progression is no longer linear, the curve becomes steeper and steeper until you get fed up. There is a difference between progression and perfection, up until the first gets you to the latter, POE, however, is unforgiving for both. It forces you to choose: reroll or quit.

This game is divided in two large groups: group a) the altaholics, group b) the finishers. At the moment it caters mainly to group a, with a passion. Group b, even though I think is a substantial part of the community and perhaps larger than group a, gets utterly neglected. What in my opinion makes players from group b so mad, including myself, is all the potential the game has to cater to both groups, yet the developers mentality is strongly against favoring group b. They are of the mind that gating content behind RNG and extremely low odds will make you play for longer and enjoy the game more. Well, I think they're wrong, I favor fruition and progress over easy replayability and unrewarding low level areas.

Which leads me to my final point: if you like refined endgame, then choose another game because the developers were not thinking of you when they made their game.

Cheers for the elaboration. I should probably make it even clearer, as clear as possible: I see no point to progressing a character past even 80 right now. The highest content we have is 78. To me, it's really like getting blood from a stone. I'd rather just start over and get back to getting blood from golems and skeletons, heh.

And while I do not begrudge anyone trying to get past 80, and have friends who have cleared 90, I personally wouldn't enjoy a second of it. The game isn't up to the task and I think it unfair for anyone to expect otherwise at this point. Maybe GGG should have just hardcapped at 85 until they added more content. I think they severely underestimated both the tenacity/desperation of some players and the possibility of 100. 100 was meant to be a horizon thing, a 'you're not going to get this for at least a year' deal.

Problem is, the moment you set a max level, even as a distant goal, some people will define that level as 'finishing the game', especially those not accustomed to playing games 'their way'. So I suppose if GGG had set the max level at 80, people would just quit after getting that.

But would that be a bad thing? The altaholics and racers wouldn't care. Those driven to 'finishing' a character would certainly get their wish, and either play something else or, who knows, become altaholics/racers themselves.

I genuinely thought the inclusion of a credit roll would tell people it's okay to quit now, but that didn't happen either. This game desperately needs something where players can be satisfied with their progress and move on instead of trying to squeeze one more drop from a dehydrated husk.

Because the number of people reaching the post-60/70 doldrums is only going to increase, and not all of them are going to love the game enough to start a new character and try a different path.

Then you would fall into his group a)the altaholics.

You are focusing on "level 100", which means nothing to a lot of players. The drive to go on is the quest for ITEMS. The hunt. The grind. That's what arpgs before D3 and PoE were founded on! Why get my char to lvl 70 wearing a Crest of Perandus, and reroll without having ever used something as awesome as Aegis Aurora? Why say "fuck it, I need to RMT or reroll" when you find a 400 dps weapon, when 500/600/700/800+ are in the game and gated behind a million mountainous layers of bad RNG?

Honestly level 100 doesn't mean a single thing more than 'I have lots of time' and 'I farmed safely in a map group'. I play solo, so I know the level grind past 88 is going to be a bitch until more content is released, and I totally accept that. What I don't accept is being a 12 hour a day player who is cut off from the ITEMS.

I consider myself pretty good at this game, and able to find/workout builds pretty quickly. Let me just show you something, so that maybe you can understand my frustration without just jumping to attack me again....

This is my 600 hour Nemesis Scion(sorry to link again, but it's easier than going back several pages)

Now, here is my 1w race character, with every item on him being found/traded(heavily traded I might add) during the 1w race...

The gap between my 600 hour char, and my char with 1 week played in a new race league is extremely similar. This is my problem. The "realistic full potential" cap is 1 week! Better items are out there, they do exist. I can go from 1 week of climbing stairs into 500 hours of climbing 1 giant step. The progression needs to keep staggering out after 1 week of play for highly EFFICIENT players.

Edit: Just look at it through my eyes, before judging me and saying "go play a different game, this isn't for you". I really do care about this game. If I didn't I care, I would just say "hahah Chris F your game, I beat it in 1 week". I progress extremely fast, and there should be something in this game for people like me too, or at least I'll stick around and convince myself of it until I decide that it really is time to move on.

Doable challenges complete. RIP'd on my Nemesis character. Leagues nearly finished. Not that interested in current race season. Time for a break, I'd say!

I am sorry to inform you, that almost all of those 700+dps weapons you want as a drop are crafted and not found like this. Maybe you should start crafting?

Also the difference between your nemesis vs your 1 week is huge and if you don't see it like this, you should lay off the video games for a while. The items on your nemesis char are just insane. Maybe it's because you traded for them that you don't seem to understand how good they are. Start crafting to start appreciating good rolls.

Your 1 week char is not listed in your list of characters and the items should be like this
. Why are you lying?
I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready.

Crafted by who, though? RMT heroes have enough currency to "craft", the rest dont.

If you're trying to prove that crafting is more demoralizing than finding loot, then I 100% agree! Crafting this sword is what made me quit playing. Thank you for your advice buddy.
