Haha yea, I missed that part but yea 700 life in ruthless is not going to work even if had permanent granite flasks, and you can actually get more life AND invest in a lot of armor
OP should just accept that armor doesn't work in the way he thought it would, and adapt.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

You dont need to read the mechanics thread you just need to PAY attention to whats happening while playing, I see no problem in rewarding intelligent play.

Yes it might be hard if its your first character but I dont expect anyone getting to the higher difficulties on their first try.

When I am playing I always let things hit me and see whats going to happen under controlled circumstances for example.

Here is an example of an intelligent line of thought:
My friend is a melee strength char, he has high resiliance to physical damage, and gets only armour from his gear pieces. Naturally, I have 6 times his armour. In cases where I think damage will be high, I have 16 times his armour. Therefore, in said situations, I should be near invulnerable to physical damage.

Here is an example of intelligence not paying off:
I have 16 times the armour of a typical melee character. I get one shotted by the very damage my armour is meant to reduce.

Lets disregard all that, and look at the armour mechanics. Ask yourself this, when was the last time you fought a boss that hit for very little, but did it very quickly? When was the last time you fought in an important encounter in which you faced many smaller foes. Essentially what I am saying is, when was the last time armour actually did anything in an important fight?

What this ultimately comes down to is armour being a useless stat, and not doing what it alludes to. Reduces damage from small attacks? What the hell good is that? Please explain to me why I would possibly want to reduce the damage from attacks which pose no real threat to me? Who thought that up?

And even then, lets say that in some backward dimension where nothing makes sense, armour is a good stat because reducing 5 damage to 2 is really worthwhile. Then how do I reduce an attack for 2000 damage effectively? How do I negate large amounts of incoming damage? If I can't, then why in god's name can NPCs crit? Explain this to me.

Don't even bother with armor. There is no advantage to using armor over life. It's just how it is, and it's up to GGG if they want to fix this, but for now you just have to deal with it.

I have no problem with that. If something doesn't work, I will change it. I will be better off with evasion anyway. Let me just take my abilities out of iron reflexes and the 20 or so other big armour increases. Oh wait... I only have 3 respec points... Time to roll a new level 50?

I guess they decided to make the passive skill build incredibly important, and then make it unchangeable.
Its a cascade of bad design choices.
You get 12 respec points from quests alone.

When having a discussion, it is important to know what stance a person is taking. Just to make sure, are you arguing that a players passive skill tree is easily changed in POE? I just need to clear this up, before we begin this discussion.

Why is it uesless? it serves a purpose and if you plan your build around using lots of it, it is good.

Just because it doesnt work against a large bear doesnt mean its useless -_-

Reducing low damage attacks by like 80-90% is that bad? basically gives each life point much more value, and you get more time to deal damage.

It is easy to correct mistakes and incredibly expensive to do a completely new build without rerolling.
