Elites with crit: A no no

Yeah, I took on board the explanation but it still doesn't make sense to me from a game design perspective (not yet anyway).

"Energy shields" and spells aren't realistic. So why make armour so realistic? Wouldn't it be better as a stat that appeals to a diverse range of builds?

There has to be a low point where some people stop complaining because it's just not worth it, and I have yet to see it. - Squeakypaw, 2013

What level is that at?

I don't know where you guys get all this health from. I'm trying to take the passives, and I snatch up every rare piece with +life on it, and I'm struggling to break 800.
I normally have around ~700 health at the end of normal with a templar or marauder.
Hm. Might I offer a thread summary:

OP's main point: Armour does NOT work in as straightforward a way as might be expected. It cannot be depended on to save your life against large hits. (specifically physical dmg crits)

While certainly not a first impression, OP does have a point. It's up to the devs what they want to do with it. And the devs should care what the impressions of most players are. PoE has really deep mechanics and the player has to think and read up (forum posts on mechanics, builds etc) to get the most out of it. But how many are going to do that?

Suggestion : A tooltip or "help" tab or loading screen tip in-game explaining how the mechanics work. Preferably before newer players find out they've nerfed themselves with a build like OP's.

Many OB users will be coming in from backgrounds (like it or not) like D3. I think PoE would like to win them over - and for many new players this would require a gentler learning curve (and community).

We DO want PoE to be popular - we DON'T want a dumbed-down game. So we help players learn the ropes. No?

again, think about that; who has more chance to survive in a explosion; a big guy with a strong body, trained and prepared, in perfect health, but with a normal armor, or a skinny, non-trained, unhealthy guy, wearing an armor thick as a wall?(how can he even walk with it lolz)
Thats obvious.
You need to think about it guys.

On the other hand, speaking of gameplay, yea it is a little boring; it's a mandatory request to stack life/es, and classes like duelist and templar wich are hybrid don't go well.
All the shadows just go CI or full hp; I really want to see the day some1 does a evasion/es/hp hybrid.

I've got a lvl48 shadow who's full hybrid without CI or GR right now. Going pretty well actually.
I seriously don't know where people get the whole "templar sucks" thing. They've recently dominated longer HC ladder races, particularly the hard races.

Hilbert had about 2.5k life and 2.5k ES at something like level 76 in the 1 week turbo race, and he even used some auras with blood magic gem IIRC.
Well this topic is a good show how these mechanics information needs to be given ingame. People should not get to Ruthless Act2 without finding out armor works bad against big hits and is practically useless against criticals.

HamCheese is my 2nd marauder. I had deleted my first one because I was dissatisfied with the first build. He currently has something like 840 life at level 33, having done the first act of cruel. You can look at his tree here: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgEAAdwFLQthDjwUUhRxG0Ub-iXfJ9U6Ukd-UFBVtVhjXz9gS2EhdO14DXloeu97jITZhO-Mz46_ns2nMKvFvorBBMRYxtji6vZI974=

and his gear here:

His next passive will either be blood magic or additional life, depending on feel. After grabbing all the nearest life passives, then I'll be going to either the templar portion of the tree or the center for more life and life regeneration. Some of that gear will be replaced when he takes blood magic (i.e., no need for +mana for example).

Hope that helps.

Some items in this post are currently unavailable.
What I want to know is why none of the devs are posting on these balance/mechanics threads anymore...
It's a tad scary.
