THERE IS NO REASON WHY POE shouldn't have a CASUAL league
People are arguing that there exists only 2 possibilities.
1. The PoE method 2. The TL2 method People who love (1) point to (2) and disparage it because it is to easy. People who love (2) point to (1) and disparage it because it is to difficult. And the conversations cycle over and over and over again. However, that isn't the only possibility. A compromise would be something that allowed for the RNG in (1) to appease those who relish in the hunt, and a more linear crafting system to appease those in (2). The 'best' items in the game would be found through (1) - otherwise the hunt would be pointless, however the items crafted through (2) would allow those who aren't able to devote that much time to hunting, to still be able to progress and hope for winning the lottery. I would have nothing against a level of super-difficult optional levels that were only accessible to groups of players who are in the (1) category - so long as that prerequisite was explicitly communicated by GGG. This is exactly how MMO's handle this sort of thing, or at least some MMO's, people who aren't in certain guilds do not disparage because they cannot kill the latest and greatest uber monster - because they know that content (for now) is inaccessible to them. What those players do instead is craft, run the simpler dungeons, pvp... etc. Now, obviously, PoE is not an MMO. But all of the things that 'casuals' do in MMO's can be done to a lesser extent in PoE and satisfy both groups. "the premier Action RPG for hardcore gamers."

People like the OP have ruined many game genres in the last 20 years.

" Then please don't voice your opinions of the hardcore players as being the voice of all, as increasing the difficulty would not make me happier. "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."

" Oh yah, I'm way off base here. Only GGG can decide what they want for the future of PoE and what part of the arpg world wide players pie they want. We'll see what the full release has for leagues. I'm of the view that more choices is better, but I guess I'm in the minority, what with all the hardcore players acting like they are the only ones who love to play PoE. " Thank you for this. These people are so quick to just balk at the fact that OP used one word to lump the community he refers to together that they use this cop-out comment to disregard the entire point. I for one am sick of not finding anything worth using or selling trying to generate wealth for other toons I'd rather play than my sporker. I don't use the term crafting because that denotes some kind of control over the outcome of your craft. This is a joke. I dont' care how they handle it in the end really be it a casual league such as the OP is suggesting or just a relaxed orb drop rate or whatever. I just want to build my own shit instead of relying on the lack of intelligent gear rolling. |

I do find it very interesting that GGG can have their cake and eat it too by expanding the leagues and yet the very thought of this is met with such major negative reactions. Since a league can be created that is tuned for a specific play style and that league is separate from the other leagues and can never mix, why all the flaming? It's not as if a casual or SFL or other possible leagues are required to be played. I'm playing Anarchy until it's over at the end of October 7th and never attempted Onslaught. Same is true for any other league that GGG comes out with that doesn't resonate with you. Just ignore it.

" I'm sorry I used the word everyone as I've no way of knowing what all others that want a less time demanding PoE are thinking. I do agree that calling the current system that GGG has for modifying a piece of gear as "crafting" is a stretch given the current state of what can only be loosely called RNG. For real crafting we should be able to keep what we have and try to build on our items. For example, allow us to keep the socket colors we want and only re-roll the ones we want to change. Meaning, any socket that has a gem in it stays that way and only the empty sockets are re-rolled with the chromatic orb. Or giving us a higher chance at better links with fusings the more we use. So, say a 4 socket item will start with a 1% chance to 4 link and by the time you get to 100 then you have a 100% chance of getting the maximum links. At least then I'd know that if I amass enough fusings and want to 4, 5, or 6 link an item then I'd know that I can achieve it sooner of later. From what I've read some players got super lucky and got a 6L armor in less than 100 fusings and also about 1 unlucky poster saying he burned through 2000 and still didn't get 6L. That's not crafting, that is just pure RNG luck or lack of it. Different leagues with modified rule sets can be created by GGG. None of these new leagues change the way the current leagues function, they're the same and all hardcore players can stay the course. But new leagues with new rule sets can open up PoE to a whole new way to play and entice a whole new crop of arpg players to play. "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."

" I think we all know what an ARPG is and that item hunt is the major focus - but obscenely shitty drop rates and forcing trade to get any good loot doesn't sound like good item hunt to me - it sounds like what people were complaining about wrt D3. |

Based on the posts of several people in this thread, this game is only for hardcore players who group and who want to trade a lot.
That's not what they are selling on the front page! See, I want to solo standard league (although is was hardcore or bust during closed beta for me) and grind for months and months with several different classes and builds, getting better and better loot while the game gets 'harder' and 'harder' and 'harder'. I mean, that talk of having 10 acts makes my mouth water! Apparently though, according to some here (and bitching from even the hardcore players in other threads), this game is not that and therefor for me... Guess I wasted my ~$250 buying stuff and I guess GGG will lose on all the money they WERE to get from me in the future. Those pricey supporter packs WERE in my line of site, or my wallets that is. I don't know if the OP's idea's are really something I would support, but if the game I thought I could play here does not exist, and nothing can be done to make that happen, then why the fuck should I stay? It's GGG's financial loss, really - but this WAS to be the ARPG that I was waiting for - the game they are advertising on the front page that apparently doesn't and will not exits - that I would also end up paying thousands of dollars for. OF COURSE< someone above also said that a fix to the RNG is all that is really needed - and that sounds about right! I don't want to group (aka easy mode), and I want to grind for gear. What does GGG stand for again? EDIT - Just disregard my entire post, I am uninstalling the game and the $220 I have given GGG has been a total waste of money. I just noticed the following line on the GAME page "It is designed around a strong barter-based online item economy" - I wont claim that was added recently, but I know that was not what they were original selling me when I got access to CB. Since the bartering bullshit is to be a core part of the game, they have basically turned this game into a version of D3! D3 had the AH problem and how it affect drops, and now this game is going to allow bartering to affect its drops with the same shitty consequence - nothing but trash drops. Neverind what the front page says, statements by chris are further down the "everything if fine, just how we want" rabit hole, and its very much a game I do not want to play. Congrats to those that do! Anyway - I don't need whatever shit the steamers are getting (never really watch them anyway) and have no idea what shavronns is (don't even care to find a link to it) - I am not looking for easy handouts. But really? Its either TL2's mountain of crap getting thrown at you OR it's PoE unending vendor trash? How about something in the middle - cool loot every once in a blue moon from your kills and own "crafting" (lol at using the term "crafting")? Nope its trash and trade! Sorry, but in gross terms, that's what I hated about D3. The very fact that D3 on console (no net required, no AH, better loot balance) is looking to be exactly what I need is rather surpising - although I am worried about reports that the gear rebalance might be slightly too much in the players benefit! Well, anything that still makes TL2 feel like a mountain of crap is probably ok by me! thank go I am in the paid closed beta for Grim Dawn as well! there is actually plenty of other things I was overlooking wrt this game, but why should I at this point? Guess I should have been paying more attention, but I was playing the game instead, making excuses for it because it was in beta. Shame on me. Of course, if you start playing in CB, why would you look at the game page since then? Hey, at least it is one less care bear for you "elite" (LOL!) players to worry about, right? Hey GG, rationalize it away, but if the player count now compared to the start of open beta is so wonderful, then start openly sharing the numbers, which you are apparently afraid to do!
