Please remove all one time visit accounts from the beta clock

I think all you guys are just being sour towards those who did receive a beta key. Not posting doesn't mean people are inactive, I've been waiting for a key longer than 99% of this forum however just because I very seldom post doesn't mean I'm inactive. I'm a lurker, I read but never post. I've logged on nonstop since my account was created but never posted.

How long ago was that? Literally it's almost been a year and still I haven't received one but do you see my crying about it?

No...

So stop your whinging and be patient. If you get in great if you don't just wait until Open Beta. Stop acting like children.

Keep the timer. It's good. It really is. The problem is that it doesn't reward people much.
If the timer were to be removed, and mods would be those who'd be giving out the keys based on how they feel, then that'll become a problem of mods being biased, of people not posting on forum and so on.
And not only that, there's also quite a big group which is interested in the game a LOT, but they discuss on IRC rather than on forum. If mods would be giving the keys based on their feelings, this group of people which whines every 35 minutes about people who got in and would have 0 chance.

My opinion is that the random timer is good. If anything, then remove the timer for a daily 48 random players who'll be listed at 00:00 GMT (as that would remove the tease for a lot of people who are impatient).
But apart from the timer, there needs to be ways of rewarding people for their input. And the input does not only come from the forum, but also from f.e. IRC.

People are mostly complaining about the folks who signed up, logged out and never bothered to ever sign back in. You do not fall under this category from what I can tell.

Multiple accounts don't improve your chances of getting into beta. Tens of thousands of signed up accounts haven't logged back in but do visit the site frequently from the same IP (hence making the account look inactive).

We're looking into ways we can improve the counter to keep it fair for everyone but still helping the active forum people get rewarded for their effort :)

Simple, Mass-email. If these people who constantly check the site dont read their email and log in they wont notice and be removed from the "pool" of potential picks.

And since they dont even read their email how the hell will they even notice if they get a betakey?

This is what I fear the most from removing the timer, I have to fully agree on this. The timer is a good idea at it's core, just not effectively executed. I wish I could come up with a tweak/fix on the spot, but I'm not that creative atm. Studying right now. But yes, fix that so that the "proper" people should be rewarded first.

Thank you Chris for being so active on here.

Signed.

Can't wait to get a play checking email and site all time, admittedly I don't alwys log in!
I honestly like the timer... it keeps me coming back to the site regularly and gives me a feeling that there's always the off-chance I might successfully selected for the beta. That's kind of cool.

The issue I have is that I feel like 90% of the forum posters think they should (or even worse, will...) get into the beta. Think of it like the lottery, you shouldn't be expecting to win, but it's awesome if you do. People are complaining "Inactive accounts are taking up spots!" etc... and really none of that matters. If GGG needed more testers they would decrease the timer intervals or give out more keys through other means.

So my recommendation to those of you expecting into the beta... don't. Go outside, play another game, continue to post your impressions from videos or questions on the forums, but honestly the method of how they are giving the keys out is not nearly as important as the feedback they are getting through the actual beta. Stop expecting to get into something only a small fraction of players will get to experience and congratulations if you are lucky enough to get selected.
Yea the timer is pretty cool, looking forward to seeing my name on it soon hehe :).
time to play some POE :)
Hey Chris I know there is a lot of complaining (some of it unfair) but that is because we are very excited about GGG and PoE so it is a good thing.

=)

Oww.. I genuinely feel sorry for you.

I suggest making one more recipient type in the timer system: along with the 'random' and 'veteran' there could be 'oldest', giving key to the unfortunate fellow, who has waited for the key the longest.
Make an account
Forget about the whole game
Get a beta key
????
Profit!!!!
