" I really don't think that this overly negative portrayal is either accurate or representative of most of the users experience with PoE and/or these forums. GGG is a small indie developer making a free video game - they aren't exactly rolling in resources to invite every forum poster into the closed beta. But please, cut them some slack. I, for one, have found them to be extremely responsive and know that they genuinely care about the frustrations everyone is going through with the faulty beta key timer system. No system is perfect. No matter what method they come up with to deliver beta keys to the community in some equitable fashion, I can guarantee that someone will find a way to complain about how unjust and unfair it is. That's just human nature. A couple of old sayings that are worth repeating here: You catch more honey with flies than with vinegar. More importantly: Don't bite the hand that feeds you. ahem; My Two Cents.
No. not all of us have endless time to watch timers tick by and flood forums, but that doesn't mean we don't care/matter. I am happy to voice my opinion when it is asked for but I don't think these guys would appreciate being told they are wrong or not doing something right all the time. Its called constructive criticism not imposing demands. Congrats to all of you at GGG all your released work so far looks fantastic. REP NZ +1! oh and ps guy above me, its catch more flies with honey than vinegar. who the hell has trained flies to harvest honey?! That is all good day :) Not even death can save you from me... " This is actually completely untrue. Say there are 10000 users who haven't posted anything and 100 users who have made posts. Now those 100 users have a 10x chance to get into the beta so you can count them for 1000 "tickets" total. The 10000 users who have not posted still have 10000 "tickets" total so you would see a 1/10 ratio of posters/non posters. As you see it's absolutely possible to see very few accounts invited without any posts even tho the posters have a 10x chance. btw. The main reason the timer is not working well is NOT because GGG is inviting wrong accounts or is using a bad system for invites. The reason it's not working is because there is a moment of disappointment every 35mins instead of once a weak or once a month. This frustrates users who start to think the system is unfair or not working properly. If GGG would use a once a weeek or once a month invite with the same system there would be far less of this complaining. People just get frustrated (me included) which makes them make posts like this. The best thing is to just ignore it and keep working on whats important, the beta itself. What's the current deal with multiple accounts on the same IP? I.e. my brother and I have both created one account each but we share the same IP. Does this disqualify us from the beta key lottery?

" Chris, what will happen with veteran timer when all keys will be distributed to them? I wonder, because it will happen quite soon. Last edited by KKRT#1655 on Aug 25, 2011, 9:02:52 AM

" It's actually quite to the contrary my man. Indie dev studios are more spirit bound (if you will) to their communities. They cannot afford to be making the mistakes that are currently happening now, ie: making contradictory statements and ignoring their fledgeling communities grievances and/or suggestions. It's the very fact that they're a small indie studio that makes this, and pardon the use of someone else's words against them, "10 times more likely" to cause long term harm. How can anyone have confidence in a studio and it's product to have any kind of longevity if they won't even concern themselves with immediate issues the community has attempted to bring to their attention. I am trying, through my voice, to help the community change back to the "eyes wide, eager to play...oh man this great!" community it should be. But over the past couple of weeks, the timer has dissolved that illusion for most of us who have been here being active. We are watching people who are inactive get access to the game, we are watching people with multi-accounts, even those that have proven themselves to be troublemakers (on probation accounts) get in. We've sat, dumbfounded as we made thread after thread laying out the issues just to see some smug beta-member come along and dangle the possibility of a key in our faces if we debased ourselves in some humiliating contest. We've seen the devs repeatedly say: "There is no problem...stop complaining" as the timer keeps ticking and picking inactive/abandoned/multi-accounts. Then we are told that "Ya know, if you use the forums you are 10 times more likley to get in"...just to have us USE the forums and STILL get passed up for inactive/abandonded/multi-accounts. And what's more, we get told "there is nothing that can be done...even if there was anything wrong with the process...which there isn't." THEN after seeing the uproar on the forums over the VERY REAL issue (see above) then we are told "Well...maybe we may have a tinsy tiny problem and we will look into it." Getting passed up by the timer is one thing, it's only doing what it was boneheadedly programed to do...but to have a dev sit there and say: "There is no problem...shaddup!" even after you have laid before their feet the very evidence of the problem is just insulting. It's these kinds of actions that leave a VERY sour taste in one's mouth. I don't have any issue with not being picked by the "random" timer. Even though technically I am a veteran as I opened my account on the 10th of August. I just don't like be patronized after saying for so long that there is an issue that needs to be addressed.
