Trying out Duelist/Ranger Life/armour crit melee build
Just looking at the 0.11.2 patch nodes I think it is a better idea to start fresh with a life/IR crit melee ranger now.
Maybe they will rework the Templar or the Marauder tree soon to make them more interesting. I will post the ranger build as soon as the patch is released, although it will be my first ranger so I might just start playing first to get the hang of it. " This is all true, Stop being such scrubs and actually learn how to build a character besides stacking a ton of life and relying on regen alone. I'm level 58 merciless ledge using this junk because I use iron reflexes and run grace/Purity and rely on leech. I hit 60% estimated damage reduction running 5 endurance charges. I still have the one to gain from oak and another one in the skill tree + there is a note that gives .2% regen per charge. At 7 charges that is 1.4% regen just from charges. He will also have both 1.5% regen nodes. I also do not get clusters of 6% life, They are very bad 3x6=18 2x6+10=22 nearly 1/4 more life. |

I have just put this ranger tree together -EDIT: Updated tree in bottom of this post
http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgIAAF4EfgSxBS0F-QguDq0UdRXwFr8Y2xmKGY4a2xutIWAknST9JpUotSmlLYMyATIJOJY6WD3iQKBDnEd-SO5KfUxgTLFTNVPfVUtW-ljbXPlgS2CIYVJh4mJaZU1noG1sbXtuaXBScNV0QXTtdPF4rnrvfXWA4YTZhO-HGYd2h9uMNpVmlwaZK5smm4ObjZu1nrmfy6OKpn-rxayvsbOyGbVItxe3072BvqfAD8BRxLjLgs5Iz3rSTdN-1QDV-NfL4l7nVO1B7YPuDu9O8-r8xf66 What do you guys think? I tried to get the most out of the recent changes to the ranger tree and focused mainly on Evasion (read armor because of IR), Life, Critical, Shield, Elemental Resists, Mana and Damage. So probably will be using mana/mana regen, maybe I can spec for BM support gems later if my life pool supports it. If I counted correctly the passives provide +220% crit chance over +50% crit multiplier, do you think that is a good balance or should I rather spend 8 point to travel to Heartseeker and obtain +70% to crit multiplier? I'm worrying a bit about the block chance, with these passives I get +16% block chance, should I get more? I tried getting a decent amount of elemental resistances and life. There are more smaller life nodes available but I choose not to focus on life that heavily but more on the better/bigger life nodes instead. Also I only used 105 points this time and there are good nodes still available on the side of the route I followed, leaving possibilities for more defensive or offense. Can't wait to start fresh, I think the ranger aligns better with how I would like to play. Please let me know if you have any remarks or suggestions. -EDIT- Had to loose Heart of Oak which gave 30% chance to avoid stuns while I also picked Unwavering Stance. This means I also lose 1% life regen and 4% life but spent 103 points instead of 105 now. I spent those 2 point on 4% more block chance for a total of +20% block chance... http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgIAAF4EfgSxBS0F-QguDq0UdRXwFr8Y2xmKGY4a2xutIWAknST9JpUotSmlLYMyATIJOJY6WD3iQKBDnEd-SO5KfUxgTLFTNVPfVUtW-ljbXPlgS2CIYVJh4mJaZU1noG1sbXtuaXBScNV0QXTtdPF4rnrvgOGE2YTvhxmHdofbjDaVZpcGmSubJpuDm42btZ65n8ujiqZ_q8Wsr7Gzshm1SLcXt9O9gb6nwA_AUcOGxLjLgs5Iz3rSTdN-1QDV-NfL4l7nVOeR7UHtg-4O707z6vzF Last edited by Startkabels#3733 on Jul 16, 2013, 6:50:10 AM

One of the big problems with evasion now is that you cant stack accuracy without stacking evasion as well to avoid your reflect since its based on your accuracy and not the monsters as before patch.

" But I am using Iron Reflexes? What do you mean "stacking evasion to avoid reflect"? Also Damage Reflect got nerfed with the patch: -Damage reflection has been reworked. All forms of damage mitigation should now work against it. -Spell Block and Spell Dodge now apply to reflected Spell damage. -Ondar's Guile now applies to reflected projectile attack damage. -Modifiers to damage taken, such as Shock, will also affect reflected damage. -The Reflect mods have been reduced to only reflect 17% of damage. The Reflect Map mods have not been changed. Last edited by Startkabels#3733 on Jul 16, 2013, 6:55:51 AM

Hi. My name is Aizek and i'm an alcho...eee.. melee facetanker with 50K aoe dps. Well it's actually 100K in Abyssus but i am modest :) I must admit since recently i don't care about map mods anynmore, i just crit fast and everything melts. Melee definately is useless in this game, don't play it. Play sporker! You always will have some time for a tea during your map :)

especially in hardcore leagues, there's no real incentive to go melee vs being a ranged wander, bow user or caster or anything really. less dmg, more dangerous, less crowd control, HP is weak compared to CI. i'd like the HP nerfs to be reverted. and then have some buffs added that cater to people using melee skills only so it doesnt feel useless.

I've actually just started a Duelist instead of a ranger. I will follow the tree I posted previously for that ranger but I just don't like playing a girl character.
Build I just finished A1 normal @ lvl 15 and can say that a Dex aligned character is a lot more fun to play. Mainly because the Duelist is a lot faster and has better skills like Double Strike and Cleave from the start. So I can easily use the weapons I like, like swords, daggers and axes. I also have good MF and it is paying off too :) Last edited by Startkabels#3733 on Jul 16, 2013, 7:18:09 PM

Hi, I play a DW evasion/acrobatics cleave ranger.
I gained 25% dps with this patch, a bit of evasion and 1% of block chance and lost nothing. What seems to the problem? |

" The problem WAS that the Marauder and Templar are boring as hell as Life based melee, no room for customization there only room for defensive passives because of the way their trees are designed. I am very happy with the latest patch and can now finally build a character I like: Crit, life and armor bases melee. What is your current level and can you post your passives and gear? |
