Trying out Duelist/Ranger Life/armour crit melee build
I see, you're talking about hybrid or pure armor gear instead.
I really like the theory of having good defenses from armor, evasion and block chance. I will look into this later, maybe I will post an upgraded tree (I'm @ work now) |

Ok, nevermind. I gave up in this build after dying in the Docks at lvl 50 or so. Had 50% Fire resists and died because of blue monsters using incinerate.
I created a new character called "Universal Marauder" now and will just go for default Life+RT+Max resist+Max block+Elemental damage (yawn). Trying to create a unique build is punishing. /tread Last edited by Startkabels#3733 on Jul 29, 2013, 4:55:08 AM

(Ditto vs Tentacled Miscreations) Also, 75% elemental resists is pretty much the minimum standard for a melee build (unless you have massive spellblock or other shenanigans). I know you're going to try something new, but if you go melee...let me tell you something...Docks on Merciless, and even Cruel for some, is no joke. Those Voibearers are EXTREMELY dangerous, and even when I had 80% Fire Resist (node + Purity), I STILL died from getting cornered by four LMP enhanced mobs and potion spamming along with the little LL I had couldn't help. Granted, this was my fault as I could've have more LL and I didn't hit Enfeeble fast enough, but even then DO NOT take them for granted. Pretty much all the other mobs there are not too threatening, but you need to take extra care around the VBs or they will melt your face...as you found out. You absolutely need close to if not maxed FR and honestly carrying a Ruby Flask while you farm there to pop for emergencies is not a bad idea.
Unique builds can be quite hard to create and I don't blame you for getting frustrated. The sheer amount of defense you need for melee (even ranged) is staggering compared to most other games I've played, bordering on the level of pretty much 'go balls deep defense' for tanks in WoW. Only thing we're missing here are the bigger cooldowns like 'Last Stand', 'Shield Wall', and the obligatory healers standing in the back casting heal DoTs and Flash Heals to keep you up. Hmmmm that's an interesting idea. What if there were healing skills that allowed players to be support like the healers in wow? That could be interesting.
