This game ruined Diablo 3 for me...

I agree. They have removed the players ability to make 'MEANINGUL' choices. This is exactly what I have been saying. If you like this, grats, just don't try to tell me that it is a 'FACT' that limiting player choice is greater customization because that is plain and simple BS.

Thats not actually what I said at all. D3 seems to offer less choice, but in reality even the more limited choices represent more meaningful useful choices overall than you ever got in D2 (and to some extent POE)

Its hard to judge POE as its still in beta and I dont actually dislike the spam one skill style games, but it does feel very old skool and not very inventive. Basically my archer used 2 skills for the entire game, and made a beeline for every crit node. Once I decided to be a crit archer beyond that there is no choice, it would be just as effective and offer the same results to select a build and have the computer assign my stats and skill every level.

Basically Autocthon has it spot on, he understands precisely what I mean. Most of the whining and misinformation about D3 is born from people getting all sniffy and elitist cause they think D3 has been 'dumbed down' or made like WOW. Both of which are ridiculous. For one its nothing like WOW and as for being dumbed down, did nobody play D2?? It was hardly rocket science...
ok, I don't like these threads but I just want to say that I'm an old RPG tabletop player, for that I prefer to have a "real" character with "statics"s skills.
I don't like the idea of a "clone" character with nothing "permanent" within it.
even if it's tedious, I prefer the fact to level a defined character from start, it's better for my imagination and feeling of accomplishement (I never follow a cookie cutter build though...). I like to put points in my characters stats i got the feeling of fleshing them out level after level...

don't fool yourself, D3 was not designed for the old players who are a very little part of the market. it's a modern adaptation of an old genre... with zillions dollars and market study and psychological assumption behind it.
I don't doubt it'll work, I don't doubt it'll sell millions of copies all around the world...

I just don't feel i'm involved or included in their general design philosophy.
... nothing
I don't see what does rpg tabletop has to do with D3 and PoE?! tabletop is about roleplaying and party mechanics which both PoE and D3 don't have. Unless you mean things like Warhammer when you say tabletop which is not an RPG but a wargame.

D3 is designed for anyone that likes a fun action RPG experience. And for people that like to play with numbers there are much better games then PoE out there.

poe got potential, but a long way to go.

D3 imo is almost perfect atm. I just want a high res graphical patch :P

I will play D3 and keep an eye out for poe.

lets hope open beta changes enough of the passive tree in poe. so far, because of how linked sockets + support gems work, poe end game = 1 or 2(highly unlikely number) skills/spells max.

that is extremely boring to me.

hope things change for the better.

I'll stay polite... I know what I mean if you don't, shut up and don't try to explain to me that it can't be any comparison with RPG games, or that I can't have such a feeling!
I played these since 1980... now that there's no place for it, I play online with other people, there's no RP ok.
but we used to also play with the games mechanics, and tweak, twink our characters, mostly with ADD (Advanced Dungeon and Dragons) without RP considerations. just for monsters (or pvp) bashing sake.

D3 or POE will not be born if there wasn't Pencil and dice game before (you prefer pencil and dice over tabletop?)...
they was the crucible of fantasy imagination and the begining of "mechanics" game brainstorming.

I come to this thread without aggressivity and I quit it with a bunch of it...

I have to say that your kind of reply keep me away (again) from D3...
... nothing

They removed the stat allocation and explained it with "everyone looks best builds up" and "basicly its just to wear gear".

This is just fail, because with this they kick the butt of all players that don't look up and enjoy the game without spoilers.

Just because there are spoilers, it doesn't mean that everyone uses them.

"You can spoil this feature"
"Okay, lets dump it down"

With this reasoning of a retard they killed all oldsql features and on the blizzcon the "fans" cheered like hell.

"oh yes i don't need internet anymore!!"
"i love you"

The whole history of D3 is full of bad reasoning.

The next statement i have to lough at is:
"we want to teach all players to become hardcoreplayers"

Anyone else heared of it?

The whole game is about "don't use your brain"
And they catch all the tards with such a slogan.

like:
"Soon, I'll be an Hardcore Player too!!"
Awesome :D
English is my third language, there will be bugs.

Personally I am just glad that they cater to the non-casual.
For us min/maxers the skill system is just far better in every aspect.

PoE is designed to make you want to spend time to entice you into using a cash shop at some point. D3 is designed to give you what you want to play with so that you can have fun with your friends. The differences in the skill system are only a matter of timescale. Saying there's difference is roughly akin to saying playing there's a difference between attending driver's ed and waiting until you're 18. The end result is roughly the same (you got a car)

Really? And here I thought the GGG devs were gamers just like me, who were trying to create a fun, balanced game, monetary support optional.

Now that you have revealed their dirty plot, I will have to turn away from their dark chicanery and return to the light that is Blizzivision, who would never sell me a game, then also charge me to use an RMAH.

Oh, wait.

I think I got that all turned around.

At least with PoE, I know things are still improving all the time. D3 is pretty much WYSISWYG, systems-wise until they get around to selling you more expansions.

I think my wife's Beta account needs to go Silver, now, too. =^[.]^=
=^[.]^= basic (happy/amused) cheetahmoticon: Whiskers/eye/tear-streak/nose/tear-streak/eye/
whiskers =@[.]@= boggled / =>[.]<= annoyed or angry / ='[.]'= concerned / =0[.]o= confuzzled /
=-[.]-= sad or sleepy / =*[.]*= dazzled / =^[.]~= wink / =~[.]^= naughty wink / =9[.]9= rolleyes #FourYearLie
Even if D3 is ahead of PoE in a few areas, the intrusive DRM makes it a no-go for me.

But it's really frustrating that D3, being a VERY mediocre game imho, WILL be praised and bought beyond all measures just because it's got a famous dev/publisher and a famous name. See Square Enix and Final Fantasy. Very mediocre (or even crappy) games, a shadow of its former self, but still sucessful.

I dont think he said there was no comparison, but clearly they are quite different things. I to started way back playing pen and paper rpgs, I even wrote a whole game system that very nearly got published during the whole rpg boom period (had I not been such a waster it would have)

A pen and paper rpg is about way more than just stats and skills, sure they play their part but the point of them was party mechanics and roleplaying a character in a world. Some of the best rp sessions often involved little to no dice rolling at all.

Indeed there were rpg games that were statless, and there were rpg games which had very limited stat/skill placement based on class. You mention AD&D, back when we were playing the classes were very inflexible. Its not like you could build a ranger or druid to be a warrior. In fact old AD&D was alot more like the current D3 system than you probably care to admit. The reality was per level as a non magic class your only real choices were to put a few sundry skill points here and there, but for example a warrior had limited choices how to develop his character.

Another good example of a limited system was the old world of darkness system (Vampire the Masquerade) which had a very tightly controlled class system. So this idea that old pen and paper rpgs were all about stat/skill choice freedom and that D3 is easy/casual/noob friendly and dumbed down is total misinformed nonsense im afraid.

Then sorry to say but your naive. Sure GGG are gamers, pretty much all developers are. Sure they want to create a great fun game (most developers do) sure what they've done so far is a great achievement for an indie team. But if you think they can survive long term on optional monetary support for pure vanity items you are dreaming. Somewhere down the line they will have to add probably controversial stuff to the cash shop to stay afloat. Thats not defeatist, thats reality. There is not another F2P game in existence which offers just cosmetic stuff and earns enough to support itself.

Yes they are gamers, yes they want to be ethical, but also they are real people, with jobs, employees, bills to pay, when it comes to it the financial side is equally if not more important to them.
