Why don’t we remove trading altogether?

Its funny, because the reality of the thing you said is totally different. People are playing the shit out of d3, constantly, and the most incorrect thing you said is that getting all items is easy. You will need to farm a shit ton of time to get best items possible so you can progress in higher rifts. And the number of players and how much they played the moment the removed AH and RMAH is increased a lot and is on steady levels for more than a year now when the expansion was released

In fact a lot of people stop playing POE a lot sooner because the game progression is just bad compared to other arpg games. As the game is not balanced around player, but around trading, and the funny thing is it doesnt even have a normal trading system in game, but you need to get third party software to make it at leas somewhat ok to trade.

And last, arpg are never played because how bad are the drop rates in game. That is one of the most wrong sentence and mindset I see constantly here. The reason why you will be play arpg is replay value, gameplay and content in the game. Making a item drop in 10 000h will not improve anything.

When people talk about self found they want a progression pace to be similar for them as when they would trade. And as it was already said, a separate league for people that dont like trading but where progression is balanced around the player (not economy) is the best thing possible to fix this problem.

There are two main reasons why I think it will not happen (even though I would love it).

First, majority of arpg population will always have more fun getting drops from killing monsters, than getting it from trading. So majority of PoE players will play that league and just confirm how wrong a decision of GGG to make a game around economy is (not the first time)

And second, if there is no trading there is one less chance for people to see others people cosmetics, witch is the bigger problem/reason (but than again hideout implementation is also strange, as also prevents people to see other people in town, so maybe this is not as big problem as I thought).

Read this - because this guy totally gets it. Maybe re read it a few times.

Then go ahead and run yourself to twitch even at random times during the day and find out for yourself the proof you need that even in the supposed completely shitty state D3 is in: people still prefer it to POE. Why? No - not because of game exposure... 100% because Blizzard GETS that people actually just want to find their own shit and kill shit fast.

Eh, if you think that doubling or even equaling PoE viewers on twitch is impressive for D3 then I think you don't realize how good that game should have been...

If you want Diablo go play Diablo. Stop trying to make this game like that one please. I enjoy Diablo aswell ocassionally. But drops are so overwhelming that everything feels like a wisdom scroll pretty much. It's nice for casuals. Nice to play for an hour or so.

I really dislike this 'I can't have it so nobody can' attitude. Meh.

Ask yourself - soul search it: if POE is the better game, why is that exactly that people gravitate to and enjoy D3 more? I know why. I know you know why too because you would just need to be deliberately obtuse and just trolling to not admit why.

This is just BS btw, stop talking like your vieuw is everyone's vieuw. It's not. You can't compare PoE and Diablo 3 like you do. There are thousands of time more casuals then gamers looking for these games. Ofcourse they will flock to diablo. It's like comparing a Fiat with a ferrari. Alot more people drive a Fiat so it must be better right? Eugh, some people.

Oh, I get it.

I played the absolute shit out of D1 and D2. Years of my life. And when I didn't play, and all my accounts timed out and deleted, back I came again and made an even stronger account.

Was I disappointed in D3? Oh yes I was. Hugley. All they literally needed to do was take D2 and just HD graphics it. That's it. That's all they needed to do. Take the exact mathmatical formulas, items, everything... just copy is EXACTLY THE SAME as D2 and it would have sold millions and people would still be playing the shit out of it right now. Then add a new xpac off it.

The point though is that they didn't, and that even in what everyone here is saying is a shit hole game... trust me: we get a new D3 vs POE thread every week, so... there ain't nothing you can say that's new on the subject... even though it's a supposed shit hole game: people still enjoy playing it and even watching it on twitch over POE.

I feel the same way as you do about what D3 should have been :-)

But I've always honestly thought that more people played D3 because it was a bigger name. There's a large segment of the gaming population that just avoids FTP completely. I know it took quite a large amount of frustration for me to even try PoE.

I mean Diablo 3 sold 15 million+ copies. RoS sold 2 million off the bat. Im sure it's sold more by now but I doubt it reached much past 5 million... There's a large reason people left.

To me though, the reason isn't RoS. RoS is surprisingly quite good. I enjoy the new seasons for about as long as it takes to get my character set. I actually played 2 characters to 70 and got 200 paragon season 2 and 3.

I don't think that people watch D3 because it's better than PoE. I think they watch because they know what it is. I could be completely wrong. But I've seen many times during races or the beta release when PoE was viewed more than D3. I can wear my Diablo shirts into public and get into tons of conversations about it. If I wear my tabula rasa shirt out I'm lucky if anyone knows what it's about.

I fully expect however, that you will ignore what i say because you need to keep telling yourself that PoE would be so much better as an exact diablo 3 lootrain copycat, but hey, maybe someone will learn something.

You ask why Diablo 3 is being played more and watched more?

Well first of all, the difference is not that much to start with. And that says alot. But let's get on with some point i will try to make.

Diablo 3 evolved to be a casual game. A game ready to play for millions of people, a game that will easily hold your attention by many many drops and easy acces to everything in the game. It's great for people that have little time to play, or for new players.

PoE is aiming for a more specific audience. The game starts out slow. Drops are rare, and some drops are super rare. The currency system is very complex. Learning how to price items could take years, and even then most people wouldn't know how to. THe game is not jump in and play. Trading takes alot of effort because of the difficulty of varying prices. The game is hard to achieve in by playing very limited amounts of hours per week. Ment for more serious gamers that like a challenge.

For diablo the crowd that could get interested is in the millions. For Poe, the people that could get interested and actually stick around to see what it has to offer, is ALOT less. Probably 50-60 times less.

On top of that, we don't really have that many twitch streamers. People that do it as a job in PoE. For the simple fact of what i just said about PoE. This game is just ment for a much smaller community then for let's say Diablo 3.

I'm not gonna say wich of the 2 games is better or wich is right. The only thing i can say is that i like how PoE is doing things. I like trading. I like our currency system. I like the depth PoE has compared to Diablo. Sorry but if you are one of those casual gamers, read my post and you will see where you need to go. PoE takes effort, and time. If you can't handle that, for whatever reason, that doesn't make it right to try and change the game so it fits you. Especially since there is a perfect game out there for you.

Btw FadeXF, If you are unable to state your argument without childish remarks everywhere, maybe people would take you abit more serious.

The D3 forum mods delete threads as soon as PoE is mentioned. It's pretty hilarious some days to watch threads get nuked.

Yuppers. That's too bad too. Because I actually just want to have a good old fashioned discussion. Literally this (was) is the best thread on these forums in the last 3 weeks.

Damn it. =(

Oh wells.

Every time someone brings up a good point to counter your statements you ignore them and keep advocating your own vieuw. There is no way to have a discussion like that.

I enjoyed my conversation with Fade this morning. We view D3 the same way, but we think twitch viewership stems from different sources. There was no name-calling and no hurt feelings in our interaction.
This thread promises meaningful discussion.

Sorry, there was name calling in my posts?

Not sure this is the right response to it though - heh.

Some people can discuss things civilly and not let their raw emotions get in the way.

It's too bad because sometimes people make some really juicy, and really debatable points - but then completely ruin their entire post (to the point that people just don't want to speak with them) by name calling.

Some day they will get it and understand that they just need to snip out that negative aspect to their posts and then people will continue having really good discussions with them.

Oh well!

But I guess Blizzard just isn't willing to risk it... BOOM thread closed the instant POE comes up heh.

Look at your post at the top of page 13. I think this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

I'll leave this thread to you SF hippies. I don't know what i was thinking your vieuw could be changed. Goodluck discussion stuff with likeminded people. And goodluck in Diablo 3. Sadly PoE DOES take some effort.
