I think it is time, to finally consider stability

Again, it all depends on what GGG is meaning by "minimum". I wholeheartedly agree that it should be minimally playable vs. Just loading But again, this gets back to the same quandary of what does that even mean (to the user).
honestly Slayer, you're just being annoying.

I actually clicked Islidox's link, and the specs of his "old" laptop pretty much double the "official" minimal requirements, despite the integrated GPU.
and my own "potato" surpasses these requirements too, with a GPU that's slightly better than Islidox's.

according to Intel's claims btw, his GPU is capable of running Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 or Far Cry 2, at playable frame rates given "low" settings.
those are games newer than when Path Of Exile started development, though older than official release. however, those are FPS games. games which are - by definition - graphically intensive.

Path Of Exile, is an ARPG. a game which by definition doesn't care much about graphics, and focuses on gameplay. and Path Of Exile's graphics - though impressive for the genre - still don't achieve or need to achieve the kind of detail an FPS does.

so, long story short: the age-old minimal requirements should be enough to play Path Of Exile even now, solo, on low settings, given the game's current graphical detail.
they are not.
hell, I get ~10 frames, freeze and crash when playing solo on "mud quality" (that's "lower than low").
I didn't, in Beta. I could actually party, in Beta. on "low" instead of "mud".
fuck it, I even remember playing "medium" back in March 2013.
therefore the game got a hell of a lot more intensive over time, for no apparent reason other than bloated, terribly-optimized code, and excess use of ridiculous particle effects.

so, do we take care of optimization right now, or do we wait for your own monster PC to become "obsolete" for playing Path Of Exile?
because hey, here comes ACT 4 with even more fucking particle effects!
*tempted to break keyboard with fist*.

don't act daft, Slayer. you sure as hell are annoying when you act daft.

Speaking about potatoes, does PoE run on more than one core yet ? I honestly don't know and you seem to be well informed.

yes, it runs on 2 core potatoes. Get the Idaho kind though as the PEI ones don't play nice with PoE. See John's post.

I don't know, but I think the particle effects and asset caching used, make GPU and RAM play a much larger role compared to CPU.
also, hard drive reading speed to load up assets into RAM from the .ggpk - which is why SSD makes such a difference for those having one.

One of the major problems the game is facing is related to fillrate, when tons of effects are displayed at once. It's tricky to fix if you want to maintain the "visual identity" of the effects. Most common methods rely to half res effects (maybe rendered to regular res on edges but this requires an additional pass to reduce blocky artefacts) and reducing density, better particle texture convex hull can help too.

When two witches watch two watches, which witch watches which watch?
If the witches watching watches watch the same watch while you watch which witch watches which watch, they switch watches; then, the watch switching witches watch which watch you watch.
Watching witches watch watches is not for the faint of heart...

sounds effective, if not a bit primitive.

that was embarrassing.
I'm sure you can troll better than that.

For you? Perhaps. Really curious to see how many of these threads you make after you've upgraded. Cause you're doing this for the good of the game and all.

E: hey check it out, this guy got it :)

Had an old labtop - lasted me for 10 years. Decided it was time to evolve to the glory known as the PC Master Race. Got an SSD, and a solid computer overall. My enjoyment of this game has increased tenfold with minimal loading times, the ability to party, *have sound* shock horror, actual graphics and much more.

I paid to buy a PC, and I feel like I've won. All aboard the PC Train.

Time to start enjoying some PoE again ^-^.
