I think it is time, to finally consider stability
" It's basically inexcusable for Path of Exile to run so poorly despite looking very average. [Post Edited by Support] Last edited by Yeran_GGG#0000 on Dec 24, 2014, 10:18:55 PM

hyped ggg as my favorite devs over the last two years
at this point it's just pathetic. |

dividing dev resources into new stuff or optimization probably is a matter on how much player's participation (monetary engagement) drops when there is no new stuff coming.
all we currently have is steam charts and if they're applicable to overall participation i could understand their obvious focus on act4 and just fixing game breaking bugs which come up while introducing new features like the pvp stuff. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

" But they'd also need to look at the impact the Act 3 crash-fest has on retention rates and monetary engagement. Right now, 32-bit + Steam is very bad. Not only will that lead to those people quitting (and hence not buying stuff), they'll also rate the game poorly, discouraging future potential customers. Mind you, I wouldn't expect them to put new stuff on hold. That would be silly. But they do need to put at least one good programmer and a level artist into looking at optimizing and cleaning things up. |

" please, win7x64 was released 7 years ago, hardware supporting 64 bit was available centuries ago. computers running a 32 bit os which only supports 4 GByte ram maybe sufficient for writing letters with word or playing tetris but on most non optimized machines win7 itself with it's caching mechanisms and the shitload of virus scanners, snakeoil personal firewalls and whatnot started alongside the os is taking up the max available ram already. and that's not the only problem, missing ram can be virtualized but on 32 bit operating systems this is restricted to ... 32 bit as well. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill! " be happy that the game obviously runs fine for you. i solved my problems with skill effects in parties by buying a gtx780 some time ago. but not everybody is able to upgrade after ggg introduces new effects. so john has a valid point. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

" Lel don't mind goetzjam, just look at his post history. Peace, -Boem- (enjoyed the read and obviously these points are long-standing valid complaints) Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

I don't bother looking at post histories any more, to be honest.
all I know is, some people are here just to express their boredom. I'm also no longer offended by trolling. it's "free bumps" as far as I'm concerned. this thread needs as many bumps as it takes, to catch GGG staff's eye. and I don't mean draw a nice golden logo comment. we're long past that point. I mean actual change in priorities, or at least a couple major improvements brought to the forefront, to be noticeable by players. Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat

I know where your coming from and i fully endorse your efforts.
However i think it would be foolish to consider this to be a black/white conundrum. Some things to acknowledge while debating/discussing this subject that cross my mind instantly. - funding dilemma New content comes with a player-influx and as such a new peak in revenue(this is an educated assumption i imagine?) Thus the dilema exist's, should ggg hold of on new content in favor for stability improvements? And if they do so, will the funds "dry up" in there attempts to do this? Imagine a full year of development spend on optimization and not on content, would the player-base be large enough to carry this year (payment checks for GGG staff/server tax etc) and would they continuously contribute to such a project on a large enough scale?
suggestion
GGG could in fact release a new support pack that aims to get $$$ from supporters just for this purpose alone "optimization supporter pack" sort of speak, from which the funds go to a pool of resources dedicated to just this issue. This could in turn be utilized to "sense" the amount of community that would back them up on such an attempt overall.
Geradon also touched on this issue previously i think in this thread, the new act4 release will come paired with new $$$ influx and as such would be a prime time to also spend some of those resources on optimization, however with the lack of new content there might not be any $$$ to support the optimization of the entire project. I go eat, so i might edit this later if i feel like it, just trying to say while i completely agree with your premise a lot of variables need to be accounted for when discussing this issue. One of those variables is the F2P nature and its attachment to "new content" to draw in more players and funds as a whole. I personally do not believe GGG has the luxury to stop development of new content in favor for optimization, but that both angles need to be updated/improved/maintained continuously and simultaneously. I am also of the believe that they do just this. Every patch nodes does in fact include some improvements, some minor some major. Most likely this correlates to the time/funds available at that point in time. Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes
