I think it is time, to finally consider stability
Wretch, why are you here?
rhetorical question. you are here white-knighting. both you and Xavderion (or is he just trolling for the sake of trolling? not sure). but did you stop for a minute and ask yourself, what exactly are you white-knighting for in this specific thread? again, rhetorical question. you are white-knighting for GGG to keep doing only extremely-minor patching, while adding tons of new content virtually every patch, like they do today. which creates this performance-creep and actually makes it go faster. which means some time in the future, your own PC won't be able to handle what the would-be-completely-garbage-engine future PoE throws at it. it is inevitable. and you will ask yourself "why the hell did I white-knight against optimizing the game?", only then its engine will be in such a sorry state, even the second coming of Lord Greg won't help it. so again, even though you clearly don't get that impression from hearing what others think of my posts, rather than actually reading them - I'm just as much a fanboy of the game as you are. unlike you though, I'm actually thinking about the game's future and hoping it will be bright so GGG keep creating and making money, and we'll keep playing. you on the other hand, do you care about the game? not a rhetorical question. ask yourself. no need to answer me. this is like a fucking Pokemon battle:
*John tries "reason and logic" on Wretch. no effect. Wretch is immune*. I give up. do what you want. I won't bother replying to your posts, but I thank you in advance for bumping the thread. both of you. " now you're getting it. In this case ill continue to play PoE and enjoy new content. k bye Don't forget to drink your milk 👌

" But that isn't necessary, no one is asking for this. It would suffice to have settings which reduce the number of particles in effects or even hide certain effects completely. You don't need a graphics guru for that. And memory management can also be improved with relatively small changes. Even adding multithreading later on is quite doable. The company I worked for created a program which had to do very complex calculations and which performed horribly. I was asked to lead a team of developers with time borrowed from their actual teams to look into the performance issues. We got huge improvements done with relatively simple fixes. The way PoE runs in comparison to other games on the market tells me this will definitely be the case for PoE as well. And as to "waiting for a gfx god": 40% improvement from such a lousy baseline is mediocre and can easily be beaten by the existing team if they just dedicate some time to the issues. @All the white knights: The higher the real HW specs for this game, the fewer people can play it. That is obvious. Some will upgrade their machines, but most wont. What follows directly is that every % of performance gained means more players and thus more money for GGG. What is the purpose of defending crap performance? May your maps be bountiful, exile

" I think you mean black knights. White knights fight to make the world a better place. Black knights guard bridges so that none shall pass. This is definitely more of the latter than the former. Definitely short-sighted of them as well. Players who use forums tend to be the minority, by a sizable margin. Which means for every player that complains, there's a ton more that don't. That just quit. That means less money for GGG. And that ultimately means less content. So watch them merrily chop off a limb and say, "It's only a flesh wound." needs to happen asap.

It's a pretty standard rule in the IT/Comp Sci business that throwing more resources (CPU and GPU cycles, memory etc) at a problem is your last resort. You try all sorts of clever, less lazy optimizations first because ultimately merely bunging in a new PCB card or slotting in a new CPU is going to bite you in the ass in the long term. They've adopted this approach for a reason: years of experience have proven that throwing resources at a problem when there are better solutions available is detrimental. The rule, I believe, definitely applies to GGG's and PoE's situation too.

I seldom post on these boards, but OP is 100% right. I don't understand how a game can be released with such glaring performance issues. I play heavy (graphic) hitters like dota2, Skyrim, The Witcher (1 and 2), on MAX settings just fine, yet in PoE -on AVERAGE settings- the FPS plummet into oblivion in places like Imperial Gardens (and maps using that tileset), the Library and especially the Sceptre of God. It is just mind blowing, and seeing people defend the statu quo, or outright trolling the OP, is even more mind blowing...
