I think it is time, to finally consider stability

Whats funny the most for me is, that Act 1 and 2 are still running smoothly and I rarel crash there.

Act 3 is where shit starts to hit the fan. Constant exceptions, constant crashes the farther I go in a 3. Gardens, Library, Scepter is a no-go for me, where I constantly crash.

b4 1.3 I could at least hang out in my HO and do maps without crashing, but even that went away. Every 5-6 Maps I crash now and it just sucks.

I had all the problems you mention and more. I used to crash at least every 3 or 4 instances. I would speed run through Sewers onwards simply because m fps would drop from a steady 30 fps to a choppy 10 whenever I entered anything after Sarn.

Most, but not all (specifically the fps drops which I still have), of my issues were solved when I added -ns to my startup switches* to disable sounds. It virtually eliminated OOM (that's out of memory, not, mana in this case) crashes for me. Give it a try. I think it will help you a lot.

*right click on PoE shortcut, click properties, edit the line after Target to include a switch saying "-ns" e.g. "C:\Program Files\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile\PathOfExile.exe" -ns"

sound is a RAM thing. part of the overall stability of the game for sure.
but unless you have a GPU strong enough to power over the game's horribly-optimized particle effects, you shouldn't feel much of a difference from disabling sound alone.

highlighting this, as an important tip since it helped at least one person, and can help more.

off-topic here of course, because it's just another work-around that's been here for ages, similarly to modifying the config .ini file (more info here).

all of the above and more, should be accessible from the in-game configuration menu.
at least. because it is preferred GGG step it up in optimization, to deliver noticeable improvements, and certainly not sit around waiting for the savior Engine Guru, to come single–handedly rescue us all.
all the while adding more and more things which make performance incrementally worse.

From this pov I fear Act 4. It will probably make legacy all computers manufactured before 2013 :P

Alternately, if you're playing through Steam, you can swap to the stand-alone exe. The Steam one adds the overlay, which is a bunch of extra overhead (over 200MB). With the lackluster memory management the game has, that makes a big difference.

Not too hard to do either. Just use the "download now!" button. It's a pretty fast download, since it only grabs a few relatively small files. One of those is pathofexile.exe. Copy that into the folder that holds Steam's version of the game and run that.

You will need an email account associated with your GGG one. Mine lacked that. I emailed CS to help me with that, and they told me to PM them from here. Once that was set up, I was golden. Well, silver. Game crashes much less frequently.

Guess I will just buy another GTX 970 :D I wanted to buy a 1440p monitor anyway.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

Except he's totally right. I've got a beast machine and this game performs worse than Star Citizen, Skyrim, Battlefield 3/4, etc. Even indie games like Dungeon Defenders and Grim Dawn don't have nearly as many issues. I can't think of any time I've ever had hangups in another game other than Path, to be honest.

Find me another game that looks this mediocre and performs so poorly. It's tough, you'll probably have to find a one man development team that makes shitty smartphone games to do it.

Team Won

Runs fine for me. Which isn't to say it doesn't run like shit on your "beast" machine, its poorly optimized, yup. Play it or don't. Don't expect any re-write of the entire engine anytime soon.. or do? I don't care.
